Apple and Siri Spoofed in Steeri Driverless-Car Parody Video

Search the title in google for the video ;-)

Google has generated plenty of buzz with its driverless car project, but what if Apple developed its own Siri-controlled alternative? Considering the digital assistant's not-so-stellar reputation on iOS, you might not feel comfortable putting Siri in charge of your car. Well that's exactly the inspiration for this hilarious parody commercial for Steeri from YouTube comedy duo Smart Department.

Steeri uses imaginary technology to take over any car wirelessly, disabling the physically steering wheel and pedals. The app then responds to voice commands, comically misinterpreting 25 mph as 25 meters per second before driving through a stop sign and even knocking over a garbage can. As the video ends, the car is being pursued by police though Steeri still refuses to give up control, leaving the human passenger powerless to stop it.

The video is a funny riff on Apple's Siri as well as some of our own fears as a society over the future of driverless vehicles. Google's own fleet of driverless cars have been well received so far though. A series of tests have shown the new vehicles are less prone to accidents than human drivers, and a survey by Cisco earlier this year revealed 57 percent of adults trust the technology.

Meanwhile, Apple has given no indication it's designing a driverless car to compete with Google. Steve Jobs reportedly dreamed of designing an iCar at one point, though it likely would have been driver controlled. More recently, the company has partnered with automakers to integrate Siri and other iOS features into vehicle controls for navigation and passenger entertainment.

Apple Spends Over $60 Million in U.S. Attorney's Fees in its Battle Against Samsung

Apple and Samsung have been battling over patents in the courts so long it makes the 100 Years War seem like a blink of an eye. According to Reuters, this fighting has cost Apple over $60 million on their leading attorneys in a California federal court battle. This battle goes beyond the U.S. and extends globally over their "intellectual properties." In the last two years and after two court battles, Samsung was ordered to pay Apple roughly $930 million. In addition, Apple has now asked U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh to make Samsung pay $15.7 million towards the total those legal bills. Apple's attorneys said in its filing:

"Awarding fees to Apple 'flows quite naturally' from the jury's willfulness verdict as well as Samsung's extensive record of willful, deliberate, and calculated decisions to copy the iPhone, in blatant disregard for Apple's IP."

Apple said it has paid Morrison & Foerster law firm approximately $60 million, although that includes a "significant discount" charged to Apple because of their long-term working relationship with the company. These fees do not include other attorneys that have billed less than $100,000 or the $2 million it owes another outside firm, WilmerHale.

The 24kt gold HTC One you'll never own

The smartphone world has seen more than its fair share of gold smartphones this year, but it looks like HTC is going to make a couple of them anyhow.

Would you want a phone that was actually made of gold? Let me rephrase that - would you actually want to use a phone that was made of gold in your everyday life?

Unlike the champagne iPhone 5S and the rose gold colored Samsung Galaxy S4, the HTC One is plated in actual 24kt gold. Compelled by sheer curiosity, we sat down with one recently to see whether or not this can actually be used as a phone.

The big obvious thing you notice first is the color. There's no other way to describe this device than ostentatious, but HTC actually did a decent job accenting the design in black as long as you don't spend a whole lot of time looking at the back of the phone. The front of the phone looks pretty good, but once you flip it over things start to slide downhill.

Because it is a soft metal, the gold HTC One we spent time with had already been scuffed up a little on the back. To add to this, the back of the phone is now an enormous fingerprint magnet since the it is glossy. It's slippery in an almost plastic way if you try to hold the phone by just letting it rest on your fingers like you could the original One. Physically the phone is the same shape and size, with the same pleasing curves and hard lines to make it feel nice if you've got a grip on it.

Each HTC One takes 200 minutes to manufacture, including the gold version according to HTC. The plating isn't expected to interfere with the radio in any way, but the model we used didn't have a SIM card in it so there was no way to test that ourselves. Given the design of the HTC One, it seems very unlikely that the gold would interfere with the radios. In actually using the phone, the experience was the same as any other HTC One.

HTC is making this special gold One available as part of a contest they are holding in New York City. The phones are valued at $2,500, so if you manage to win one it'll be up to you to decide whether or not this is something you'd carry around in your pocket. Even if you put a case on it, the back of this phone seems really likely to be damaged by sand or dust that would get in between the case and the handset anyway.

Who would've thought....

The airbag for your MOBILE :
Honda creates emergency device that gives your phone a soft landing when you drop it.

The accessory, dubbed Case N, can be fitted to any smartphone
When the phone is dropped, six built-in airbags inside the case deploy
This prevents the phone from being scratched, dented or stolen
Sadly the airbag is a concept created by Honda and isn't available to buy
If you've ever dropped your smartphone you'll know that sinking feeling as you pick it up to find it's dented, scratched or even ruined.

Inspired by this, Japanese car maker Honda has created a smartphone case with built-in airbags designed to prevent these kind of costly accidents.

Dubbed Case N, the phone accessory acts like a protective shell and if the handset is dropped, the six airbags immediately deploy.

Although the Case N is just a concept, and Honda has said it has no plans to ever produce the product, a similar design was seriously suggested by Apple.

As discovered by PhoneArena in March, an Apple patent was released for a case that tracks how close a phone is to hitting the ground, using built-in accelerometers.

As the phone, and case, reaches the floor, gas-powered thrusters fire in the opposite direction to slow it down.

However, the invention is just a concept and Honda doesn't have any plans to sell the device.

This gives him an idea and the engineer starts testing various inventions designed to protect his phone from being damaged when dropped - including dropping it from the top of a building.

He eventually comes up with the idea for the Case N and tests out various prototypes.

The final version is held up to the camera and as he drops the phone with protective case, slow-motion footage shows the airbags deploying.

Case N. The emergency airbag for your smartphone or IS it?

In a video for the concept, a Honda employee is shown looking forlornly at a picture of him and his cat through a scratched iPhone screen, pictured
The parody video also shows the airbags deploying if the phone is removed forcefully from his pocket, preventing it from being stolen.

I've seen plenty of drop tests being carried out and I can say one thing for sure.

When the iPhone was compared to the HTC One, it was clearly evident that the HTC One would balance itself back into such a position that the heaviest bit would hit the ground first at all times, whereas the Iphone seemed to love to have its face smashed in. Naturally of course.

For iphone user:

Sometimes the screen of iphone shows nothing - black, but phone works and user is unable to use the phone. At that time don't panic

Hold the home button and the menu button together for 10 seconds. Apple logo will appear, it'll take another 20 or so seconds and will have reset and work properly again.

Been there done that. :-(

IPhone are not alone with this unfortunate scenario.

Since you mentioned it, if an android crashes, hold the power button down for about 10-15 seconds. The phone will come out of the crash and reboot. (That's if you can't remove the battery, otherwise, simply do a battery pull)

Also, did you know that there are many secret menus on android, they can mostly be accessed via the power on and volume button, but it'll only work when powering the phone on.

iphones are good, I use since 3 years. Good one - but independent software, difficult to transfer files, difficult to insert media are BIG DRAWBACKS. but IMO, Samsung is ahead in the race.

But Samsung has some secret masala in it; I used Samsung Z500(an extraordinary 3 g mobile) before 7 yrs & it rocked. Samsung has a very special reason on attracting the user, which I cant explain. Also there is some addiction and attraction towards Samsung.

Most of these are smart phones, please use it when there is a need. For eg : if you are in West or need to use internet for official work, etc. If there is no need, go for a simple basic phone - even if it falls from 20 metres ht and parts get scattered ; you can assemble and continue the call. If you lose the phone, you no need to worry as u can buy the same one instantly. Simplicity rocks! Mostly in India, you can get these options like this where you get a good device for 1500 Rs( 30 $). You can go for Prepaid/Pay as u go,

Samsung tries to smother report of Galaxy S4 fire

Samsung reportedly tried to silence a customer after his Galaxy S4 smartphone caught fire

Korean smartphone maker Samsung reportedly tried to silence a customer in Canada whose Galaxy S4 spontaneously burst into flames.

Last week, YouTube user Ghostlyrich posted a video, providing evidence that his Samsung Galaxy S4 handset caught fire while charging:

Although the battery did not explode, the fire rendered the smartphone useless and - as the phone was still under warranty -
Ghostlyrich contacted Samsung to request a replacement.

Rather than replacing the damaged phone immediately, however, Samsung demanded that Ghostlyrich remove the video from YouTube first.

"As a condition of exchanging the phone with a similar model, *** agrees to remove his YouTube video or any other link or statement relating to these matters and refrain from making other videos or statements about or relating to the matters set out herein," the company said in a letter to Ghostlyrich.

Samsung's letter also demanded that Ghostlyrich absolve Samsung of any legal reponsibility and promise not disclose the settlement details.

However, Ghostlyrich refused to comply and posted a second video, revealing that Samsung had asked him to take his original video down. The video has now attracted over 730,000 views:

It is not clear whether the situation has yet been resolved. Samsung could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.

Did you know Apple will have an app that will give you the ability to smell fresh popcorn! Apparently, people love the smell so much, they've done something about it.

To make things better, it won't be available on Android any time soon. (luckily)
