In your opinion would you say the functionality of the max is equivalent to which HTC handset?

You'll probably have to synchronise entire phone before you can use the loo. And that too might be tracked by Apple

iPhone 6 vs. HTC One (M8): A Closer Look Article

Early rumors regarding the features of iPhone 6 are already available online, but Apple has yet to reveal the handset in August.

Apple has been very careful in its attempts to keep iPhone a secret. But like any other leak, Chinese case makers are moving ahead with a collection of new iPhone 6 designs that match up with these rumors.

Rumors claimed iPhone 6 is bigger and much thinner than iPhone 5s. Apple delivers an iPhone with a larger display to compete against the Android smartphones which take a hold in the market share for the past two years.

With the growing demand of larger display, Apple decides on launching iPhone 6. It resembles Apple's fifth generation iPod touch. The latest pictures that were leaked by a French blogger, Nowhereelse.fr, revealed it has a 4.7-inch display, thin body style and curved edges that give a very similar look to that of the smartphone, HTC One (M8).

In one of the pictures, it was clearly seen an iPhone 6 with curved edges and thinner design, matching the rumor, volume button redesign and the back looks like it is made of three panels to allow radio communication.

But when compared with HTC One (M8) which features front-facing speakers, iPhone 6 seems shorter and thinner. When it comes to iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 is slightly taller and thinner. The HTC One (M8) measures 146.4 mm x 70.6 mm x 9.4 mm and has a 5-inch display, iPhone 5s measures 123.8 mm x 58.6 mm x7.6 mm and has a 4-inch screen, while iPhone 6 measures 138 mm x 67 mm x 7 mm with obviously a 4.7-inch display.

iPhone 6 as reported has a flat back compared to the HTC One (M8)'s curvy back with both devices having metal cases. There is no information on the waterproof quality, though users are waiting for the iPhone feature.

Inside reports indicated users will get sapphire display cover on the new iPhone that protects the display from scratches, an Apple A8 processor with 1 GB RAM and 8 MP camera that may include larger pixels and some form of image stabilization for better-looking photos. Also, Apple plans to include TouchID on the new phone.

Power Saving Mode
Samsung made plenty of noise about the ultra power saving mode on its Samsung Galaxy S5 when the flagship phone launched. It's no wonder. While heart rate monitors and fingerprint scanners may grab the headlines, boosting battery life is something that users genuinely care about.

Batteries have been getting bigger for the last couple of years but the power saving mode on the S5 offers something more. It promises to eke out more life from the last 10% of your battery by turning off certain features and even flipping your home screen to black and white.

Of course power saving modes aren't new. The difference is they have become more powerful and more customisable. But do they work? We sent the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2 to our lab to put their power saving modes through a real life test. You can see the results below

More battery, fewer missed calls

Good news all around. The S5 added an extra four hours on to the last 10% of battery life when in power saving mode, as did the Xperia Z2, while the HTC One M8 went one better with five hours.

These are meaningful differences that should help you make that crucial call or receive that important text message before your battery runs out of juice.

How we tested power saving modes

Since there's no standard for this type of test, Which? decided to conduct a one-off comparison to identify how much benefit the power saving modes offer. This test is a snapshot in time and actual battery life can vary depending on your usage.

Which? tested each phone after running down the battery to 10% life. Two battery tests per phone were conducted, one with the power saving mode switched on (to the default setting) and one with it turned off. The test comprised a mix of mostly standby time plus some calls and web browsing.

We've listed below the power saving mode we used during the test and the features that were affected:

Sony Xperia Z2 - Low battery mode

This mode can be programmed to be activated once the battery gets to a preset level. You can select the features that are affected but the default settings (which includes turning off mobile web browsing) are as follows:
mobile data off
reduced screen brightness
faster screen timeout
auto sync off
Bluetooth & wi-fi off
GPS off
vibrate on touch off

HTC One M8 - Extreme power saving mode

This puts the device into a basic menu mode and can be programmed to be activated once the battery levels gets to a preset level. The mode does the following:
reduces CPU usage
reduces screen brightness
turns off vibration feedback
turns off the data connection when the screen is inactive
allows only essential apps to run
turns off the pedometer

Samsung Galaxy S5 - Ultra power saving mode

When using the ultra power saving mode, the S5′s display turns to black and grey and the functions listed below are either turned off or or run at a reduced rate:
turns off background data when screen is off
turns off wi-fi and Bluetooth
turns off GPS
turns off vibration feedback
restricts usage to essential applications and those selected by you

Rumours gather pace as details of HTC One M8 Prime are leaked

The recently released HTC One M8 could be set for a 'super high-end' reboot if we're to believe habitual leaker @evleaks.

This time he claims that the upgraded device will be waterproof, have an aluminium and liquid silicone casing and it will support category 6 LTE.

It's also claimed that the One M8 Prime will have a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 (QHD) display and 3GB of RAM- very much similar to the Galaxy S5 Prime leaks we've been seeing.

A bucket-full of salt

Our very own mobile editor Gareth Beavis has previously poured water on a similar HTC M8 Prime leak last month.

He explained that the Prime could be the codename for the HTC One M8 Max, a potential upcoming HTC Phablet with M8 specs.

We contacted HTC and it told us that "HTC doesn't comment on rumour or speculation".

HTC One (M8) gets a firmware update full of stability fixes

The HTC One (M8) is barely out the door, but it's already receiving its second firmware update. While the first one was only released to bring versions with no Extreme Power Saving mode up to speed, this one focuses on improving overall stability.

We were contacted by one of our readers who received a notification for the update in UAE, but several other reports across various European markets such as UK and Germany confirm its existence. The update weighs in at just under 70MB and it's available over the air.

Here's the official changelog as provided by HTC:

System improvements
- Radio stability improvement

Application improvements
- Camera stability
- Video Highlight stability
- FM Radio stability
- Weather app barometer update
To be honest, we found the One (M8) to be a pretty stable device out of the box, but it's still great to see HTC take good care of its flagship with these maintenance updates. Better yet, the rollout seems to be spreading rather quickly, so it should be available globally shortly.

Apple devices 'hijacked for ransom'

Source BBC NEWS

"Apple takes security very seriously and iCloud was not compromised during this incident. Impacted users should change their Apple ID password as soon as possible and avoid using the same user name and password for multiple services," the firm said in a statement to The Register news site.

"Any users who need additional help can contact AppleCare or visit their local Apple Retail Store."

Apple really want to join the big names even though they are bigger.

Huge 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Now Also Expected in September

A lot of the rumors surrounding Apple's plans for its next two smartphones, including a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and a much larger 5.5-inch version, have suggested that the former will launch in September while the latter might not hit the market until the fourth quarter of this year. A new report yesterday suggested that Apple fixed issues related to battery production for the iPhone 6 phablet, and now one analyst says he has good reason to believe both phones will be unveiled together in September.

But it will still have the same non sense iOS

At the moment I'm using HTC one x, screeen size is 4.7inches, I love it to bits, hence I'd prefer to stick to HTC...but my battery isn't lasting as long as it should, and I need a bigger screen size, because I've started to use it for all internet needs, lectures, nasheeds, ms, and a lot of treading which is causing strain on the eyes.

I'd appreciate any reviews on phablets if anyone's had any experience with them....not necessarily HTC but it would be a preferred.
