128GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card Announced
By Edwin Kee

There is a new SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I memory card in town, where this time around, you would be able to enjoy up to 128GB of storage space. This would instantly turn the 128GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I memory card into the world's largest capacity microSD card. Being smaller than some fingernails, this new SanDisk Ultra microSDXC card would allow consumers to make use of their smartphones and tablets without having to worry too much about storage limitations. However, I guess when it comes to archiving as well as keeping track of what files have gone where, you would need to be a good organizer in order to do so.

In fact, this unique microSDXC memory card is also suitable when it comes to capturing video in Full HD quality as well as burst speed for photos, considering how it has double the speed of ordinary microSD memory cards. In addition, there is also the enhanced SanDisk Memory Zone app which offers a more convenient method to organize, optimize and perform a backup of Android-powered smartphones. And to think that the microSD memory card format was launched a decade ago with 128MB of storage space. The asking price for the 128GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I memory card stands at $199.99 a pop

The Internet Is Actually Controlled By 14 People Who Hold 7 Secret Keys

This sounds like something out of aDan Brownbook, but it isn't: The whole Internet is controlled by seven actual, physical keys.

The Guardian's James Ballwas recently allowed to observe the highly secure ritualknown as a key ceremony.

The people conducting the ceremony are part of an organization called the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). ICANN is responsible for assigning numerical Internet addresses to websites and computers and translating them into the normal web addresses that people type into their browsers.

For instance, type 64.27.101.155 into your browser, and you'll be taken to Business Insider's web page. But www.businessinsider.com is easier for people to remember.ICANN maps the numbers (easier for computers to use) with words (easier for humans to use).

If someone were to gain control of ICANN's database, that person would control the Internet. For instance, the person could send people to fake bank websites instead of real bank websites.

On the other hand, if a calamity happened, the ICANN database could need to be rebuilt. So ICANN came up with a way to do thatwithout entrusting too much control to any one person. It selected seven people as key holders and gave each one an actual key to Internet. It selected seven more people to be backup keyholders: 14 people in all.

The physical keys unlock safety deposit boxes stashed around the world.Inside those boxes are smart keycards. Put the seven smartcards together and you have the "master key." The master key is really some computer code, a password of sorts, that can access the ICANN database.

Four times a year since 2010 the seven keyholders meet for the key ceremony where they generate a new master key, i.e. a new password.

The security to be admitted to the ceremony is intense, Ball reports, and involves passing through a series of locked doors using key codes and hand scanners, until entering a room so secure that no electronic communications can escape it.

The group conducts the ritual, then each person files out of the room one by one.

Is this story true or is it a load of nonsense?

Mystery Pain Explained: Your Screen Obsession Could Be Giving You 'Text Next'

02/28/14 05:44 PM ET

Texting is a literal pain in the neck.

HuffPost's Executive Lifestyle EditorLori Leibovichhas used computers and smartphones often over many years, and after visiting the doctor she found out her technology use was to blame for the perpetual pain she had been suffering.

"I couldn't ignore the shooting pains anymore in my neck, and there was numbness and tingling in my arm," she said. "I'm getting an MRI next week to figure it out."

Leibovich told HuffPost Live'sCaitlyn Beckerthat she deduced the cause of the pain when she realized that it was triggered by the motion of swiping across her phone's screen and using her thumb to scroll.

Chiropractor Dean Fishman has seen that before. He recalled an appointment with a 17-year-old girl who was experiencing headaches and neck pain. As he was reviewing the x-rays, he noticed the patient was texting in the corner.

"We put the pieces of the puzzle together and we found that the repetitive stresses of having her head in a forward, titled posture for long periods of time was the contributing factor," he said.

I myself am suffering from this pain and it really is a pain in the neck.

I guess we are using the phone more than the computer for reading the Quran, using MuftiSays and so on.

Galaxy S5 Lets You Access 10.7GB out of 16GB

Patrick Northcraft | March 1, 2014 |

It is common knowledge at this point that the advertised amount of space on a phone is not truly the amount that you can access and use. Typically, we see that around 3-4GB of memory is taken up my the system OS and a little more by apps that are pre-installed on your device, most of which is just bloatware. The nice round numbers that are announced, like 16GB or 32GB, state the size of the internal memory, not the amount usable. Knowing this, a major complaint with the Galaxy lines, and most Samsung devices in general, is that due to the bloat involved with TouchWiz, the amount of usable space is reduced even more. The Galaxy S4 was given a lot of pain over the fact that it used almost 7GB for system files and whatnot, leaving just a little more than half the advertised amount of storage accessible to the user.

This was a major fear with the Galaxy S5 as well. In fact, not too long ago a report arose that said the available storage on the S5 was in factlowerthan that available on the S4, which was a bit ridiculous. Thankfully it was revealed that the S5 that was examined had an extra 2.33GB of demo content on board that will not be on the official versions of the phone. In case you were wondering, they do this at conferences and even in basic retail stores in order to show off the fun features that you are paying for, assuming we ever find out just how much we'll be paying. With that extra 2.33GB in account, the total amount of available storage on the S5 comes in at just around 10.7GB, which is an improvement in respect to the S4. Of course, devices that stick closer to stock Android like the Nexus line use up much less memory, but the trade off for Samsung's multitude of features must be taken into consideration, if you like that sort of thing.

iOS security hole reportedly exposes your screen input
February 25, 2014 | Lance Whitney

A malicious monitoring app could log the keystrokes and touch input on your iOS device, say security researchers.

James Martin/CNET
Every tap, touch, and press you make on your iPhone and iPad could be monitored and captured remotely due to an iOS security flaw. At least, that's the claim from security firm FireEye.

In a blog posted Monday, FireEye researchers said they conducted a test on non-jailbroken iOS 7.0.x devices in which they installed a "monitoring" app. This app was able to record all touch and press events in the background, including screen touches, home button presses, volume button presses, and TouchID presses. Based on its findings, the team concluded that an attacker could use such an app to remotely obtain keystrokes and screen touches on an iOS device, thereby reconstructing "every character the victim inputs."

The flaw reportedly lies in the way background apps run on an iPhone or iPad as those apps can detect all keystrokes and touch inputs made on the device. Disabling the Background App Refresh setting can prevent the background monitoring, though a malicious app disguised as a music program could still conduct such monitoring.

And though the researchers used a device running iOS 7.0.4, they said the same vulnerability exists in iOS versions 7.0.5, 7.0.6 and 6.1.x.

Of course, an iOS user would have to somehow allow the malicious app to be installed in the first place. Apple does impose strict requirements on the apps allowed in the App Store. FireEye was able to install its test app on a non-jailbroken device, though it didn't explain how.

Until Apple patches the problem, the only way to avoid the flaw is to trigger the iOS task manager to manually shut down apps running in the background, according to FireEye. Double-tapping the Home button displays all background apps. Swiping a background app in iOS 7.0.x then closes the app.

What is Apple's take on this reported security bug? The FireEye researchers said they've been collaborating with the company on this issue. CNET contacted Apple for comment and will update the story if the company responds.

Apple is already grappling with a security flaw that affects OS X as well as iOS. The flaw could allow an attacker to capture and modify data supposedly protected by SSL, or Secure Sockets Layer. The launch of iOS 7.0.6 late last week patched the hole for mobile devices. OS X remains exposed, though Apple has promised a fix there as well.

Many of us, (well actually, few of us) are using the HTC BlinkFeed.

Did you know that you can set a search field for any topic and have that as your home page and get daily/live feeds of what ever you've chosen.

I haven't been through these yet, but here is a sample

The Haramain Gallery.

This setting takes you to you tube videos directly from the Haramain Gallery. the Haramain Gallery is the official Makkah gallery where all the videos of every Salah is uploaded every day.

Even though we might not be able to watch the videos due to a limited data plan, at least we can have some great images on the optional home page.

The Haramain Gallery also have a Twitter page, so even that can be selected.

All New HTC One stars in lengthy hands-on video ahead of official debut [UPDATED]

The follow-up to the HTC One won't be officially announced until March 25, but we've already got a pretty good idea of what the upcoming Android flagship is all about thanks to a flurry of leaks that've surfaced in recent weeks, including spec reports and official-looking renders. I'm not one to ignore early peeks at unannounced smartphone hardware no matter how many times we've already seen it, though, and I'm betting that you feel the same way. That's why I'm betting that you'll want to be aware of a 12-minute hands-on video with an AT&T version of the HTC M8 that was posted to YouTube tonight.

Shared by YouTube user "GadgetReviews," the clip is 12 minutes and 19 seconds of pure HTC M8/All New HTC One goodness. The video includes a number of comparison shots with the HTC M8 and the current HTC One as well as peeks at the M8's rear cameras, on-screen buttons and microSD card slot. We're also given a good look at the new handset's refreshed camera UI.

Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, the original video has been pulled. I've included a handful of images from the clip, as well as an embed in case it somehow gets activated one again. The HTC M8 shown in the video looks similar to the device that's appeared in all of the recent image leaks, showing a nice evolution of the original HTC One with rounded corners and a microSD slot, the latter of which is something that I'm sure many folks will be excited about. There's no word yet on when we'll be able to spend some hands-on time with the M8 like the kid in this video, but the good news is that March is here and we're only a few weeks away from HTC's big reveal.

The video was made in mid February, when the phone was still in development, so a lot of the features weren't finalised. Looks really slick though.

Will be disappointing to see the tethering removed....

Three rolls out 4G for free - but kills unlimited tethering

Posted on 28 Feb 2014
Three has shifted customers to a 4G tariff for free - but might kill off unlimited mobile tethering in the process.

The carrier has upgraded every customer with a 4G-enabled handset to a 4G tariff, making good on a promise to roll out superfast internet for free.

That doesn't mean all 7.9 million Three customers will automatically get superfast internet, since they would need a compatible handset and to live in a 4G area.

Three said 1.7 million of its customers own a 4G-compatible handset, but couldn't say how many were using superfast mobile internet. The carrier is still in the process of rolling out its 4G network, which is currently available in 36 major towns and cities in the UK.

2GB cap on tethering

One side-effect of the upgrade is that Three is reportedly considering killing off free mobile tethering, according to ISP Review.

Currently, the operator offers unlimited data and tethering on its One Plan. No other operator offers unlimited 4G data, even for a fee. Three was also the first to promise superfast internet at no extra cost.

Customers on the One Plan who switch on tethering can turn their phone or tablet into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot, giving them a cheap alternative to fixed-line broadband for no extra cost. Tethering with other operators or on other tariffs usually incurs an extra fee, because of the additional strain on the network.

According to ISP Review, Three will introduce a 2GB monthly cap on tethering for new customers signing up to the One Plan from March. Existing One Plan customers will get unlimited tethering for the duration of their contract.

Three hasn't responded to a request for confirmation, but told ISP Review it couldn't discuss future plans.

Apple poaching HTC engineers to help with new iPhones product development

Pressed by the 6-month refresh cycle that Android makers recently introduced, Apple is apparently on a hiring spree in Asia, poaching HTC and other engineers there, for help with more frequent product launches. Besides the rumored two new iPhone models with larger displays this year, Apple is expected to unveil an iWatch, plus the iTV is always in the rumor mill.

Source

Apple most certainly wont join HTC or others, but they sure like to make it look like that (They want others to join them.

KitKat update for HTC One pulled in the UK following 'difficulties'

By Alex Dobie | Mar 03 2014

HTC One 4.4.2

Android 4.4 OTAs no longer rolling out

While HTC America managed a speedy rollout for Android 4.4 on the HTC One, things haven't gone quite so smoothly in the UK. The country wasn't included in the first raft of European territories to get KitKat in late January. And now, a week after the company tweeted news of KitKat's arrival in Blighty, there's official news of the update being withdrawn due to "difficulties."

An HTC statement given to Android Central reads -

"We are aware that a limited number of HTC users are experiencing difficulties with the KitKat update. As a result, all FOTA updates have been temporarily suspended. HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience and we are working hard to resolve the issue quickly."

There's no info on exactly what kind of issues have been discovered with the firmware, but HTC's UK updates status page once again lists all carrier variants as being in the "integration" stage.

Lucky me, I've already got mine updated

Having said that, the update means that they have removed flash player.

I used to have it and it worked well. My brother just got his update, (so much for pulling out from the UK)

Oh well, we'll have to get a plugin to enable the flash player.

So if you need the flash player, don't update just yet.

Looks like Google have pulled it out to follow Apple, only to get third-party apps to make money....

Take a look at pure quality photos from the HTC One in Makkah and Madinah. Set here as home screen wallpapers on the device (my brothers) Al-Quds coming soon

Remember, these are what losers call "Only 4Ultrapixel". The Samsung Galaxy S4 was also there but the owner would not accept that the photos were taken from the HTC One.
