And Nokia doesn't need Android now, with the ecosystem of Microsoft, people would only to be too glad to jump platform once they fix out the glitches, which of-course will take some time..
Old men? Old Nokia with humongous experience meets new Microsoft (in phones) with humongous cash, clout and reach - Magic is round the corner!
I used Nokia for a long time, but sorry the other phones have taken over and are far far superior to it. Nokia was great and I personally loved the 1100 version of it but sadly the brand itself just couldn't keep up with the market. Right now they are clutching at straws trying their best to attract customers, lol I think recently they were offering a 41 megapixel phone, sounds and looks pretty desperate to me. Nokia have admitted themselves that they have missed opportunities to keep up with the market.
I've used android (htc one ) and the iPhone, but I still prefer my iPhone for my daily use.
They also say that one shouldn't live in the past, the good old days of Nokia are over, to bad they haven't been able to produce anything solid for a few years now. I've hardly seen anyone with a Nokia in the west, maybe in the East yes.
You sound just like me, I wouldn't have anything but Nokia. They had everything I wanted the way I wanted it. But things got smart and so did I ;-)
Nokia have hit back with their excellent Windows phones, but the fact the they are going to be sold or already sold to Microsoft and that Microsoft approached HTC to design the HTC One with Windows on their handset, speaks volumes itself.
The Nokia Android handset looks like it won't happen as it's in competition with Microsoft.
If Nokia remains Windows, then it's just down to hardware.
So if HTC decided to have a Windows phone too, they'd out do Nokia, but since HTC don't have any money, they should just go into partnership with Nokia.
One side HTC don't have money to produce windows phone and other side Samsung was offered $1 billion by Microsoft to produce WP devices
Windows Phone eco-system. The support from the other manufacturers like HTC, Huawei and Samsung in developing WP powered smartphones has been rather poor, which is a cause of concern for Microsoft. Having already acquired Nokia, Microsoft is now trying to motivate other global manufacturers to develop Windows Phone OS based smartphones.
According to a tweet from Eldar Murtazin , Microsoft has offered an annual sum of $1 billion to Samsung if the Koreans start producing Windows Phone devices. Another "good" news from Microsoft - company negotiate with Samsung and offer 1 billion support if vendor will produce Windows Phone devices
- Eldar Murtazin (@eldarmurtazin) December 12, 2013
Back in the day Microsoft offered a similar deal to Nokia when they joined forces. As a part of the agreement, Nokia received $250 million every quarter from the Redmond giant as "platform support payments". Unfortunately, there is no official word at the moment, so take it all with a pinch of salt.
Londoners lose 15,000 mobile phones on TfL this year
TFL = Transport For London
McAfee has released figures obtained through a request under the Freedom of Information Act, revealing that an astonishingly high number of devices, particularly mobiles, have been handed in to Transport for London (TfL) as lost property over the past five years. This year alone, there have been 15,833 mobile phones handed into TFL as lost property.
As late night tubes, buses and trains across the capital start becoming full of merry workers on their way home from the office Christmas party, no doubt many will be misplacing their expensive work or personal mobile devices on their way home after one too many drinks. Recent stats from Juniper show that more than 80% of smartphones are unprotected from malware and attacks, making their owners highly vulnerable to identity theft.
The loss of tablets has increased by a massive 2876% over the past five years, from 17 devices to 506, as tablet adoption across London has become ever more widespread - driven both by consumers wanting the latest iPad and businesses giving employees tablets to work on as an alternative to laptops.
Other findings include:
- 506 tablets have been handed in and only 290 have been claimed - with 216 unclaimed
- 528 laptops have been found and handed in as lost property, with 337 claimed and 191 unclaimed
- In 2011 16,415 mobiles were left unclaimed
Raj Samani, online security expert at McAfee commented: "As these figures demonstrate, it's incredibly easy to misplace your smartphone or tablet when amongst the hustle and bustle of London's transport. In some lucky cases, lost devices will get handed in to TfL lost property, but in many others they will get snatched by opportunistic thieves. Consumers should ensure they have the appropriate security measures in place so that even if they do misplace their tablet or smartphone after the office Christmas party, they won't be at risk of identity theft or have their personal details compromised."
HTC plans a "disruptive" tablet and an Android smartwatch
HTC's big-screen ambitions don't stop with the One Max - it's still looking forward to a future laden with tablets
by Ben Stinson
22 October 2013
HTC hasn't dipped its toe into the tablet market since the HTC Flyer, back in 2011 - but it's planning to shake things up with a "disruptive" tablet.
Speaking to the Financial Times, HTC CEO Peter Chou and chairman Cher Wang have revealed that HTC is working on a new tablet device - and that current-gen wearable gadgets like smartwatches are "gimmick" devices.
Despite HTC's current absence from the tablet market, Cher Wang hints that a new device is in the works, saying that, "When the [HTC] tablet comes out it will be something nice and disruptive." HTC has recently made moves towards devices with larger screens, launching the 5.9in HTC One Max to considerable acclaim.
Smartwatches and other wearable devices are high on most tech brand's agendas - and HTC is no exception, with Bloomberg reporting that it's working on an Android smartwatch with a camera.
HTC Jetstream
Mr Chou calls out "version one" and "gimmick" wearable devices in his FT interview, noting that "It has to meet a need, otherwise if it's just a gimmick or concept; it's not for people's day-to-day lives. That is an opportunity for us" he said.
Ms Wang went on to say that "there are a lot of devices to innovate... Ubiquitous intelligence is not just wearables" - suggesting that HTC plans to wait for the other major tech brands to play their wearable cards first, before committing to any wrist-wrapping accessories.
If HTC were to launch a tablet with the same quality feel as its highly praised One series, would you get in line for one - or has HTC missed the boat?
In a radical departure from the previous case designs, the new Mac Pro is shaped like a cylinder
Apple's latest workstation will hit the shelves worldwide tomorrow, with a starting price of 2,499
Apple has announced its new Mac Pro will be available to order in the UK from Thursday 19 December, starting from 2,499.
www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/10525596/Apples-new-... In a radical departure from the previous case designs, which employed the standard, rectangular design, the new Mac Pro is shaped like a cylinder and takes up about one eighth the volume of previous models.
Designed around a 'thermal core' that pulls air from the bottom to the top of the machine, the new Mac Pro features 4-core, 6-core, 8-core or 12-core Intel Xeon processors running at speeds of up to 3.9 GHz, and two workstation-class AMD FirePro graphics processors that deliver up to eight times the graphics performance of the previous generation Mac Pro.
PCIe-based flash storage delivers sequential read speeds up to 10 times faster than conventional desktop hard drives, according to Apple, and the new Mac Pro has up to 60GBps of memory bandwidth for simultaneously editing full-resolution 4K video and rendering effects in the background.
"The new Mac Pro is our vision for the future of the pro desktop, everything about it has been reimagined and there has never been anything like it," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, at the launch in October.
"The new Mac Pro packs up to 12-core Xeon CPUs, dual FirePro GPUs, ultra-fast ECC memory, new PCIe flash storage, Thunderbolt 2 expandability and more into a radical new design that is one-eighth the size of the previous generation Mac Pro."
The Mac Pro is available with a 3.7 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor and dual AMD FirePro D300 GPUs with 2GB of RAM, 12GB of memory, and 256GB of storage starting at 2,499. Organic, 'living' shoes for running? They're more likely than you think
Shamees Aden, a designer and researcher from London, unveiled a shoe prototype that will make your best kicks looks like a plaything at therecently held Wearable Futures conference.
Developed with help from Martin Hanczyc, a professor from University of Southern Denmark, they have created a 3D printed shoe, made from a synthetic biological material that can repair itself overnight.
The shoes are made from non-living protocells that can be combined to make living micro-organisms. Thanks to 3D printing, the shoes aren't just designed to fit the user's feet like a second skin, providing the needed extra cushioning throughout their run.
Aden told Dezeen that the cells will inflate and deflate in response to pressure, supporting runners while they run on different surfaces. After each run, the shoes will then be placed in a jar full of living liquid protocells, rejuvenating them for the next excursion.
While the shoe is by no means ready for prime time as of today, we could see them on sale as early as 2050.
The 7in (18cm) Android tablet has wi-fi connectivity, 512MB of RAM, a microUSB connection and 4GB of storage.
It has a three hour battery life and allows users to watch online tutorials and videos, browse the internet and play games.
So As I thought, this tablet is not going to do well at all. Such a low battery life, very slow speed and low storage. The only good thing about it is that its Android.
Microsoft launched Windows 8.1 last month, featuring a range of refinements and functional improvements, including a more customisable Start screen, enhanced Bing search, and a range of new apps and services. Here are some of the operating system's best hidden features.
1. Turn the Start screen into an app launcher
It can be difficult to find the app you need from the Windows 8 Start screen, because tiles take up so much of the screen. There is, however, a way to turn the Start screen into a useful app launcher. On the desktop right-click the taskbar and select 'Properties', then click the 'Navigation' tab. In the Start screen section, tick the box next to 'Show the apps view automatically when I go to Start'. From now on, when you go to the Start screen you'll see a list of all your apps rather than those big tiles.
2. Boot to desktop
Plenty of people have little or no use for the Start screen, but in the past this has been the default lamding page when you boot up your PC. Now Windows 8.1 offers the option to go straight to the desktop when you log in. On the desktop right-click the taskbar and select 'Properties', then click the 'Navigation' tab. In the Start screen section, tick the box next to "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start." From now on, when you log into Windows, you'll go straight to the desktop.
3. Open the Metro version of Internet Explorer 11 in multiple windows
One of the better known features of Windows 8 is the Snap action, that allows you to run two apps side-by-side. With Windows 8.1 you can also run two instances of IE11 in multiple Snapped windows. However, Snapping one instance of IE11 to one side of the screen and then attempting to open a second instance doesn't work. You have to open multiple tabs in one window, and then press and hold or right-click one of them and select 'Open tab in new window'. Unfortunately other apps don't appear to offer multi-window capabilities.
4. Shut down from the Start button
The Start button is back, but the Start menu is not, meaning that you still need to go through several steps involving the charm bar if you want to shut down your PC. Alternatively, right-clicking the Start button brings up an array of menu options, including quick links to functions like Disk Management and Command Prompt tools. With Windows 8.1, this menu includes a 'Shut Down' option, and hovering over it also gives you the option to restart your PC, removing the need to return to Metro mode.
5. Quiet hours
With Windows 8, Microsoft meshes several desktop and mobile features. One of those mobile features is app notifications, which pop up with a sound when you get a message. These can be useful during the day, but it can get annoying if your laptop is pinging away through the night. Windows 8.1 adds a Quiet Hours setting that lets you silence notifications for specific times of the day. Access this setting by opening the 'Settings' charm, navigating to 'Change PC Settings' followed by 'Search and apps' and 'Notifications'.
6. IE11 Reading View
Reading View strips the clutter and advertisements from the article you are reading and presents the information in a pleasant, horizontally scrolling format. To enable Reading View, just click the open-book icon on the right side of IE11's address bar. Reading View also appears integrates with the new Reading List app in Windows 8.1, so when you bookmark an article with this app from IE11, it will display in Reading Mode later.
7. Hands-free mode
One of Windows 8.1's coolest features is buried deep in the new Food & Drink app, which is full of all manner of delectable recipes. However, when you're making cake and your hands are all covered in butter and flour, it may not seem like the best moment to be using a touchscreen. Fear not, because Windows 8.1 has a hands-free mode, which lets you flip through the steps of the recipe by waving your hand in front of your device's webcam.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
