A similar product and slightly cheaper too

Duracell Mobile Battery Charger

It all depends on the power rating of the charging unit as to how long it will last etc. Handy for those who are outdoors most of the time.

There are better and more expensive versions available too.

As salaam alaii kumm,

In a recently reported incident of a Galaxy S4 catching fire, Samsung had allegedly asked the user to remove the video showing the incident, before it would provide a replacement device. It now seems the user will get a new phone even if he doesn't remove the video, but not from Samsung.

Apparently Nokia USA has offered a Lumia to Richard Wygand (@ghostlyrich), who had recently uploaded a video of his Samsung Galaxy S4 catching fire. Ghostlyrich's video on YouTube showed a Samsung Galaxy S4 catching fire while charging with what the user claimed to be an original Samsung charger. While the phone did not explode, its charging port was supposedly burnt out.

The Galaxy S4 user claimed his phone was under warranty, but when he initiated the process to have the device replaced, Samsung customer care reportedly sent a reply that it would provide a replacement only if the user removed the video from YouTube. In response, the user uploaded a video about the letter he'd supposedly received from Samsung.

Since the matter was reported widely, Nokia USA interestingly tweeted the user with an offer.

In its tweet, Nokia USA said, "@ghostlyrich we want to help you out. Let me send you a Nokia Lumia so you can experience how customer service should 'really' work."

The move by Nokia refreshes our memory to a similar incident back in 2011, when a Microsoft evangelist had offered free Windows Phones to five users who reported the best story about malware problems they were experiencing on their Android smartphones.

So far, Samsung has kept silent about Nokia's offer, just like it had refused to confirm what it had reported initially asked the Galaxy S4 user to do.

The Next Iteration Of The HTC One Passes Through WiFi Certification

Justin Diaz | December 13, 2013

HTC has been on the ropes for the past few years, but they started taking measures to better their situation with the release of the HTC One. The One was simply a magnificent device that was just released at the wrong time, causing it to be overshadowed by more popular handset franchises from Sony and Samsung. Despite this however it was if anything, a window to what HTC is capable of. The successor to HTC's One device has just passed through the Wifi certification, meaning the device is on its way. Hopefully HTC can find a unique solution to launching the phone among a crowded sea of devices this time around and regain some ground in the market.

The HTC m8, or One 2 as its rumored to be named(no official name for the device has been confirmed yet) is starting to shape up to be just as impressive as the One, or so we could hope. The One had a nice sleek design with a full seamless metal body that captivated consumers, and it was nice to see something that was out of the ordinary for a change. The One 2 may or may not follow in the same footsteps when it comes to the body design, that remains uncertain. We do however know the specs of the device internally thanks to Android Police and the Wifi certification that the phone recently went through.

The HTC One 2 will come with a 5 inch 19201080 screen. 5 inches seems to be a nice middle ground for devices these days, as its not too big and not too small. It's just right. Besides the display, it will come packed with a Snapdragon processor that clocks in at 2.3GHz, an Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage space and it will come pre-installed with Android 4.4 kit kat. We have yet to learn what sort of display type the One 2 will come with, and we still know nothing about the battery which is important depending on the type of display. The two go hand in hand somewhat as the display type could have a huge effect on battery life.

Hopefully we'll learn more about the M8/One 2 in the coming weeks, and as soon as we do we'll be sure to post our findings for all of you.

Google removes privacy feature from Android mobile software

Reuters
13 December 2013 21:57 GMT

By Alexei Oreskovic

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Google Inc has removed an experimental privacy feature from its Android mobile software that had allowed users to block apps from collecting personal information such as address book data and a user's location.

The change means that owners of smartphones using Android 4.4.2, the latest version of the world's most popular operating system for mobile devices released this week, must provide access to their personal data in order to use certain apps.

A company spokesman said the feature had been included by accident in Android 4.3, the version released last summer.

"We are suspicious of this explanation, and do not think that it in any way justifies removing the feature rather than improving it," said Peter Eckersley, technology projects director at the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The digital rights website first publicized the change in a blog post on Friday.

Android users who wish to retain the privacy controls by not upgrading to Android 4.4.2 could be vulnerable to security risks, Eckersley said. "For the time being, users will need to chose between either privacy or security on the Android devices, but not both."

Many third-party apps for Android devices, such as music-identifying service Shazam and popular smartphone flashlight apps, require access to personal information that does not always have an obvious connection to the app's functionality, such as phone call information and location data.

The privacy feature allowed users to pick and choose which personal data a third-party app can collect, Eckersley said. Users had to install a special Apps Ops Launcher software, which was created by another company, in order to access the hidden privacy controls.

Android software was loaded on 81 percent of all smartphones shipped worldwide in the third quarter, according to industry research firm IDC. Apple Inc's iOS, the software used on the iPhone, had 12.9 percent market share.

Privacy has become an increasingly important issue as smartphones, which are loaded with consumers' personal information, become the primary computing device for many consumers. In November Google agreed to pay a $17 million fine to settle allegations that it secretly tracked Web users by placing special digital files on the Web browsers of their smartphones.
