...Rather than replacing the damaged phone immediately, however, Samsung demanded that Ghostlyrich remove the video from YouTube first.

"As a condition of exchanging the phone with a similar model, *** agrees to remove his YouTube video or any other link or statement relating to these matters and refrain from making other videos or statements about or relating to the matters set out herein," the company said in a letter to Ghostlyrich.

Samsung's letter also demanded that Ghostlyrich absolve Samsung of any legal responsibility and promise not disclose the settlement details...

Those conditions seem reasonable to me. Besides the wording about absolving of legal responsibility is common in settlements... so is the non-disclosure of settlement amounts.

Otherwise, this poor guy is a bit of an idiot and could be setting himself up as the defendant in a lawsuit.

iPopcorn

Ever wished you could have the buttery scent of freshly popped popcorn at the click of a button? With what's being called the first-ever popcorn-scented smartphone game, that dream can be made a reality via your iPhone. (Sorry, Android users.)

Created by Pop Secret in conjunction with the advertising agency Deutsch LA, the Pop Dongle app transmits the devilishly addictive scent of microwave popcorn to your nostrils through an attachment to your iPhone. But first you have to play the iPhone game Poptopia, which works with the external Pop Dongle attachment.

The game basically consists of shooting popped kernels into "The Mouth." The more kernels you land in the mouth, the more delicious popcorn scented spritz is emitted from your digital popcorn popper.

"It's time you let your nose have as much fun as your eyes, ears and thumbs do when playing mobile games," the app's commercial boasts.

Poptopia is free to download on iTunes; however, the attachment comes at the hefty price of $150 and is currently only available on eBay until Dec. 13. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross, according to the item's description.

It pays for instant gratification, but you could just hold out and pop a real bag.

A rubbish concept version of the HTC M8 (aka HTC One Two)

www.phonesreview.co.uk/2013/12/10/htc-m8-design-is-nice/

The previous design is much better, let's hope this concept is just taking the mickey out of you know who.

There were many Android fans that decided to go back to HTC for its flagship smartphone offering for 2013, with the majority of them really happy that they picked up the HTC One. Now though we could be a matter of weeks away from seeing its replacement and the HTC M8 design we have for you today is nice.

The HTC One had the codename of HTC M7 while next year's model has been called the HTC Two or M8, and we have seen various reports on the handsets specifications and benchmark results. Today we have a concept phone idea that is using all the various rumours about the upcoming device.

This design idea is the work of Ancel Lim who recently brought us the Galaxy Note 8.0 20014 design, but this HTC M8 idea comes from all the previous rumours that have emerged about the handset and a few more thrown in. We have a 5-inch Full HD display that is protected by Gorilla Glass 2 and is powered by the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad core processor.

You would have thought the handset would have 3GB of RAM and this design has the possibility of expanding the memory thanks to microSD card support. According to Lim there will also be a dual SIM version that would use the Snapdragon 800 quad core processor instead, but both versions of the handset would be thinner and lighter than the current handset.

Would you like the HTC M8 to look like this? NO

I've loved NOKIA handsets and their software over every other (before smartphones) They were and still are the best. Simple and easy to use. Excellent stuff. I've always wanted to stick to Nokia, but as time went on by, they just didn't improve and stuck to their old versions.

There was a rumour that Microsoft (owner of Nokia now) approached HTC and asked them to design the beautiful HTC One with Windows 8 on it. Microsoft simply fell on love with the HTC One. But since HTC have a few Windows handsets (much cheaper too), they decided not to go ahead with it at the time. Since HTC felt that Android was leading the market.

There is an excellent concept phone also code named HTC M8 Windows8. Looks very nice.

Any way, that's just news from me, here's the real news

Nokia working on a low-end Android device codenamed Normandy

Remember the device codenamed Normandy that was leaked back in November? It might be the first Nokia device to run Android.

Nokia may be running out of time when it comes to launching new devices, as news broke out last week that regulators in the U.S. and in the Europe signed off on its acquisition by Microsoft. However, the latest batch of rumors suggest that Nokia is not yet ready to quit, and is working on a low-end Android handset which is codenamed Normandy.

After the terms of the Microsoft-Nokia acquisition were made revealed, it was announced that Nokia considered making Android handsets, whereas Microsoft was allegedly working on a Surface-style mobile device. In the end, Nokia decided to go with Microsoft's Windows Phone OS instead of Android. However, now it looks like Nokia is considering using a forked version of Android that does not contain any Google services.

Initially, the handset codenamed Normandy has been leaked by @evleaks back in November, and was assumed to be an Asha device. In the leaked image, the mobile was found to feature styling that was akin to Lumia devices, but with one navigation button at the bottom of the screen. There were no further details available regarding the device, until now.

The device will be a low-end offering and the main idea behind using a forked version of Android is in getting more content available to users. Nokia has tried and failed to build an ecosystem around the Asha Touch platform, and it looks like it is turning to Android to provide an answer. Amazon famously uses a forked version of Android on its Kindle line of tablets, and Nokia is allegedly going a similar route.

Other details regarding the device are not known at this stage, but the device codenamed Normandy is slated for a release in 2014. The Finnish manufacturer only has a few months before the acquisition is finalised, so it should be interesting to see if we do get to see an Android handset from Nokia before then.

HTC One smartphone, previously known as the M7, an Android Jelly Bean handset with high end features and a great design. Michael Retovona proposed a new HTC design, the M8 device, pictured above and packing Windows Phone 8.

HTC M8 With Windows Phone 8, the Follow up to HTC One

The designer claims that he likes the Lumia and the iPhone 5 look, so he admits that the HTC One is a bit inspired by those. So, he went out and created the equivalent of the HTC One in the Windows Phone universe: HTC M8. Michael worked one hour and a half on this render in Photoshop alone and using vectors.

There are some changes from the HTC One, like the fact that we have speakers at the lower back, not only at the front top and bottom. Also, below the screen there are Windows Phone buttons and the front camera has been moved from the side to the center. There are 3 capacitive buttons instead of 3 and other than that the handset may keep its 4.7 inch Full HD screen and maybe even the 4 MP Ultrapixel camera. Fancy this phone?

(This was back in February.)

Freephone to mean free, says telecoms regulator Ofcom

This is for the UK only

Calls to businesses or services using freephone numbers will be free from mobile phones as well as landlines, telecoms regulator Ofcom has said.

Under the plan, calls to 0800, 0808 and 116 numbers will always be free.

The move is one of a number of changes announced by the regulator affecting calls to businesses or services.

Ed Richards, Ofcom's chief executive, said the changes would be "the biggest for UK telephone customers in more than a decade".

The changes will be made in June 2015, and Ofcom said it would develop a campaign for consumers to explain in more detail how the changes will work.

Callers to 08, 09 or 118 numbers will be told how much their call will cost, broken down into an "access charge" and an additional "service charge". This will be highlighted on customers' bills and callers may also be told by a recorded message.

Phone companies will set their access charge, while the business or service will control the service charge. This will, in theory, promote competition between the phone operators as customers will be able to compare the rate of their access charges.

Mobile phone companies currently have different access charges for different numbers, and these are not made clear on customers' bills. They also vary considerably.

'Confusion'

Currently if someone chooses to call a game show or votes on a reality television programme and the call comes from a BT landline, there is a message explaining how much it costs. But there is no specific information if you call from other service providers or mobiles.

Ofcom says that currently callers are given a message such as: "Calls will cost X pence per minute from a BT line. Calls may vary from other landlines and calls from mobiles may cost considerably more."

Under the new pricing structure, Ofcom said that the message could be revised to say something like: "Calls will cost X pence per minute, plus your phone company's access charge."

Ofcom said that this would help consumers to see on their bills how much their phone provider is charging them, and make it simpler to compare this with others.

Call charges on premium rate - 09 - numbers are to be capped, and Ofcom says "confusion" over numbers starting with 0845 will be addressed by giving a simple breakdown of the "access charge" and the "service charge" as with other numbers.

Ofcom also said that it would also simplify tariffs for calls to 03 numbers, which must now be included in the inclusive minutes or other promotional offers a phone user might have.

THERE WAS A HUGE MIX UP ON BLACK FRIDAY!

Shoppers bag 200 off Samsung tablet after Very.co.uk bungle

Savvy shoppers snapped up a stonking Black Friday bargain after badgering online retailer Very.co.uk to honour a deal where it mistakenly offered nearly 200 off a Samsung tablet.

The site had picked up on the US tradition of offering big discounts on electronics on the last Friday in November (see our Cheap Tablets and Cheap iPads guides for the best deals).

But many customers were left up in arms after Very initially refused to uphold a huge discount on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, which had peviously been sold for 329.

For 90 minutes on Friday, the tablet was discounted to 129.99 instead of 269.99 due to an "inputting error", which saw Very display the price of the 7-inch tablet instead of the 10-inch model.

After realising its mistake, Very offered 20 off the 269.99 price to customers who bought the tablet at the incorrect price, but that meant shoppers would have to cough up an extra 120.

MoneySavingExpert.com received complaints from angry customers and we've seen many reporting gripes on forums and Twitter. An online petition calling for Very to honour the price was even started.

One disapponted customer wrote on Very's Facebook page: "I am very unhappy with Very due to the Black Friday deal, and now they are trying to say I'll get 20 off. This is not acceptable."

But Very has relented, and will now honour the incorrect price of 129.99 for one item per customer. It won't say how many customers were affected.

Customers who asked to cancel their order at the weekend because they didn't want to pay 249.99 will still get their tablet, and will be charged 129.99 for it.

Affected customers should allow up to eight days from today to receive the tablet. They'll also be offered 20 off orders made by the end of January.

Very's retail director Jon Owen says: "After talking to our customers over the weekend, we have decided to honour the incorrect price."

And Guess what? I was sent a link by a friend for a totally different offer but I didn't open it as I was very busy at the time. Any way about an hour later, I opened the link to find that what he had sent me had expired (they were doing special offers for hourly slots). Anyways, I MISSED out on his offer but saw the Tab 3 10.1 for 129.99 and ordered it. And Alhunmdulillah, it arrived last nite, Yippee, kids are happy, and I'm even more happy because I was just about to order the 7 inch tablet at the same price. Phew! Innallaha Ma-asSaabireen!

WoW, what a handset. If this happens, then HTC One has actually bettered it, search "HTC One 2 / HTC M8 exclusive 3D concept" on YouTube

A new concept HTC One 2, dubbed as HTC M8, packs great specs and features that are at par with the rumoured specs of Samsung Galaxy S5

HTC One 2 is getting more and more attention these days amidst the Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours. Folks at Techradar created a new render of the HTC One 2 boasting top of the line specifications.

The new HTC One 2 concept image boasts the same metallic body of its predecessor but now the front sports an edge-to-edge screen display. The creators said that the screen is a 5-inch 2K display.

Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by 2.3 GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 CPU inside, 3 GB of RAM and a 4000 mAh battery. The handset 16, 32 and 64 GB storage versions with expandable storage via microSD card slot.

The smartphone will run with the latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS and with the usual HTC Sense 6.0. Users can take photos with 10 Ultrapixel rear camera. The camera has a new UI and the general UI is now more fluid and better organized.

Surprisingly, the successor of HTC One packs a fingerprint sensor integrated into the HTC logo at the bottom of the screen. This will unlock the device with a single touch.

HTC One 2 release date is still unconfirmed but reliable tipster @evleaks tweeted that the handset would be with all four U.S. networks by the "end of Q1 '14." This has been backed up after court documents from the patent trial between HTC and Nokia detailed "the launch date is in the first quarter of 2014, and possibly as early as Feb 2014". Thus, HTC One 2 may hit the shelves on March 2014.

If rumours proved to be true, HTC One 2 will battle head on with the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S5 as well as iPhone 6. The two smartphones are also expected to arrive on the first quarter of next year. But with the aforementioned specs, HTC One 2 should be a smartphone to watch out for.

HTC now able to sell all phones in UK again

After HTC was ordered to stop selling a couple of their phones in the UK, the Court of Appeals has granted a stay of injunction to the Taiwanese company this afternoon. This means that they will be able to resume selling the HTC One mini and other devices, effective immediately.

HTC has issued a statement saying that they're "delighted" that the Court of Appeals has granted the stay of injunction, and that they'll "immediately resume shipping of all of their devices into the UK, including the entire HTC One family."

This decision comes after Nokia won a patent war against HTC, and HTC has said that they will "aggressively appeal" the ruling against them. Despite fighting the decision against them, HTC will work towards finding alternative solutions to the chips that they use to ensure that they don't step on Nokia's toes again.

You can read HTC's statement below:

HTC is delighted that the Court of Appeals has granted a stay on the injunction against our products. We will immediately resume shipment of all of our devices into the UK, including the entire HTC One family. Similarly, our customers should feel confident in their ability to promote and sell all HTC devices. Even though we plan to aggressively appeal the validity decision of Nokia's EP 0 998 024 patent, we will continue to work with our chip suppliers on alternative solutions to ensure minimal disruption to our business in the future.

Sony dual USB flash drive for Android to debut in January 2014

Next month, Sony will be releasing a new kind of USB flash drive that is designed to fit all your file transferring needs, literally. This 2-in-1 USB drive has connectors that fit both micro and regular USB ports. And it's made to be Android-friendly to boot.

There isn't really a lack of portable file storage solutions, but the varying ports found on devices do make it more difficult to settle on a single one. A majority of smartphones and tablets have micro USB ports, but desktops and laptops mostly only have regular-sized USB slots. At the very least, some sort of cable, connector, or adapter will be required. Not exactly convenient when one needs to quickly transfer some files from one device to another.

Sony has a fix that is even smaller than a USB thumb drive. On one end, this dual USB flash drive sports a regular USB connector. But take off the cover of the other end and you will be greeted by a micro USB connector as well. The USB was made to be compatible with devices running Android 4.0.3 and higher but said devices should also offer USB On-The-Go (OTG) functionality. Sony recommends using a certain File Manager app available for free from Google Play Store for best results.

The Sony 2-in-1 USB flash drives will be available from Sony retail stores starting January next year. The drives will be priced at $19.99 for 8 GB capacity, $29.99 for 16 GB, and $62.99 for 32 GB of data storage.
