Cant wait to hear your decision.

Remember, once you buy it, you cant return it (I think). So what you should do is check it out first then order it online with your service provider, that way, you'll have the returns policy applicable.

Ask the salesman about returns too and what they think about the phones too, don't just take my word for it ;-) because others have better opinions on other brands, like Apple!

Sorry, I didn't update my post where I said I would, too many pages have gone by.

www.muftisays.com/forums/63-the-light-side/6623-im-moving...

This is the skin I've got on my phone, very nice but only set back is that its very slippery and it doesn't have the cool metal feel anymore.

The phone in the display is the silver one with the white trim. Mine is black. You can click on the image to see the ebay page. To be honest, the gel case is the one to go for with a screen protector even though its scratch resistant. It'll cost a couple of pounds.

Moto G phone targets budget buyers

Moto G owners can customise the phone with a range of different-coloured back panels
Google's Motorola unit has launched a relatively low-cost smartphone that includes features more commonly found in higher-priced models.

The Moto G will be sold contract-free from 135 in the UK and $179 in the US.

The handset has a 4.5in (11.4cm) 720p high-definition screen, a five megapixel rear camera, a 1.3MP front one, and runs the latest versions of the Android operating system.

Analysts suggests the budget end of the market is set to enjoy huge growth.

"The second wave of smartphone adopters is now starting," said Francisco Jeronimo, a mobile device analyst at the consultancy IDC.

"This wave is characterised by consumers looking to get their first smartphone at the cheapest price they find.

Motorola says the Moto G will get Android KitKat "within weeks"
"They don't have the need nor the money to afford the most advanced smartphones, as the first wave of adopters had. "

'Fast to assemble'

The Moto G - which supports 3G but not 4G networks - is being launched in 30 countries including the UK, US, France, Germany and parts of Latin America and Asia. That contrasts with the country's last model - the Moto X - which is currently only available in the US.

Its price makes it slightly cheaper than Samsung's Galaxy S3 Mini, HTC's Desire X and Sony's Xperia M but still more expensive than Huawei's Ascend G510.

However, Motorola's device is the only one of these to come preinstalled with the Android Jelly Bean operating system. The firm is also promising to release an upgrade to the newest version of its Android platform, KitKat, in the near future.

It also has the highest resolution display and is the only one to feature a quad-core, rather than dual-core, CPU (central processing unit). This should in theory allow it to offer superior processing power while minimising the toll on battery life.

Motorola's chief executive told the BBC it had helped cut each handset's cost by putting in a large orders for their components from the start.

"The engineers also designed this for cost - there's fewer pieces [and] it's designed to be easy and fast to assemble," said Dennis Woodside.

He added that unlike the Moto X, the company had opted not to build the device in the US.

100,000 copies of the Hongmi were sold in two minutes when it launched
"It's assembled in China, Brazil and Argentina," he said. "We had to go with a cost-driven approach to put it together."

Cheaper rivals

Mr Woodside said the handset would be targeted at three groups:

People in developing countries who wanted to move from a basic "feature phone" to one that could run a wide range of apps

Students and children in richer nations, for whom price was still an issue

Existing smartphone owners frustrated by the prospect of spending 500 every couple of years to upgrade to another top-end model

Motorola is far from alone in targeting these segments.

Nokia's Lumia 520 - running on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 platform - can be purchased contract-free for 100. The firm also offers the even cheaper Asha range of phones, which run a more limited choice of apps.

ZTE has released a smartphone powered by Mozilla's Firefox OS costing just 60.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi recently released Hongmi, a handset costing the equivalent of 80. Like the Moto G it runs Android Jelly Bean and has a quad-core CPU, but in addition offers a bigger screen and higher megapixel rear camera.

Nokia is expected to announced an update to the Lumia 520 soon
For now Xiaomi is focused on China, but the company's recent hire of Hugo Barra - a former Google executive - has been interpreted by many as signalling international ambitions.

Growing losses

According to a recent study by network equipment maker Ericsson, the number of smartphone subscribers will grow from 1.9 billion people today to 5.6 billion by 2019.

But despite an expanding market, Motorola has struggled.

In the July-to-September quarter its losses totalled $248m - 24% up from the same period in 2012.

Its US market share also fell over the same months, according to research company Comscore, despite the Moto X's launch.

"Although most vendors are still trying to enter the high-end of the market attracted by higher margins, they struggle to compete with Apple and Samsung, due their strong brands and colossal marketing budgets," said Mr Jeronimo.

"The mid- and the low-end of the market is where most companies are turning to to grow their handsets businesses.

"However, competing at lower price points represents a huge challenge for the less innovative manufacturers or those that are not efficient enough to squeeze each penny from their supply chain."

Motorola says it plans to release the Moto X in Europe some time in 2014
Google has the potential to earn money from Android handsets by taking a cut from apps and media sold via its Play Store, and adverts shown on its other apps.

Even so, Mr Woodside said Motorola intended to make a "fair profit" from the Moto G, adding that he believed the new model had the potential to prove more popular than the Moto X.

"It really addresses a larger market, frankly," he said.

"That's where the volume is. I don't want to give any specific forecasts but the opportunity is absolutely much bigger."

BlackBerry Z10 Sees UK Price Slashed

By   - Source: via GSMArena

BlackBerry's first BB10 phone hits the bargain bin at Carphone Warehouse.

Buying a phone off contract usually isn't cheap. However, if you're happy to go with a BlackBerry, Carphone Warehouse has a pretty good deal. The UK retailer has just cut the price of BlackBerry's touchscreen Z10. GSMArena reports that CW has slashed the price of the BlackBerry Z10 to £179.95. This is down from the usual £349.95 price. Yikes. If you do want a contract, you can get the phone for free. PAYG users can get the device for £159.95 if they top up by £10.

Having launched last February in Canada, the Z10 isn't exactly new, but its this price cut doesn't bode well for BlackBerry. The company is still struggling, despite the launch of BB10 and a host of new BB10 smartphones this year. That said, things could still turn around. Just last week, BlackBerry fired its CEO, Thorsten Heins, and named John Chen the new CEO. This news was announced alongside a $1 billion investment from Fairfax Financial.

The Z10 packs a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU, a 4.2-inch display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of on board storage, an 8-megapixel camera in the back, and a  2-megapixel camera up front. When it launched, BlackBerry said it was the best first day ever for a new BlackBerry smartphone. In the UK market, BlackBerry tripled its best ever performance for the first week of a new phone. Who knows, maybe the price cut will jump start sales.

The Dual-Screen YotaPhone Will Launch Internationally In December

Russia-based Yota Devices has been working on a curious beast called the YotaPhone for years now, and it’s gained quite a reputation for itself because of its split personality. While the front of the phone sports a traditional LCD screen, the back plays home to a power-sipping eInk display because… well, why not?

The launch date was one of the last big questions left unanswered, but that’s no longer the case: the company has just confirmed to us that the YotaPhone will launch internationally before Christmas.

Frankly, it’s about time they’re getting this thing out the door considering just how long they’ve been teasing it to the public. Word of device first started making the rounds late last year, and an a very early version of the phone made public appearances at massive trade shows like CES and MWC (you can see our CES footage of the thing below). And it isn’t exactly a surprise that the company was gearing up for an official launch either — earlier this year the Russian company was confirmed it would start the mass production process with the help of a Singaporean manufacturer called Hi-P.

Still, the news may come as a bummer to some of YotaPhone’s biggest fans, as an earlier report out of Russia claimed that the Yota subsidiary would be pushing the device out the door some time in November. Those same reports also claimed that the YotaPhone would ship with a €500 price tag attached to it, but so far company representatives have remained mum when it came to cost.

That long-than-expected gap between promotion and production may have done the YotaPhone more harm than good. There’s little doubting that it raised plenty of eyebrows, but the spec sheet is looking a bit long in the tooth compared to the competition — the final production model is going to feature a dual-core 1.7GHz chipset, 2GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch 720p screen upfront, and a seemingly paltry 1800mAh battery. Granted, it shouldn’t be a total slouch with components like those, but the big question is whether or not the gimmicky second screen will be enough to tempt potential customers away from more prominent rivals like Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony, and more.

Apple Demands Samsung Pay $380 Million In Damages Over Patent Dispute

BY BRANDON RUSSELL | NOVEMBER 13, 2013

Apple says it wants Samsung to hand over $380 million in damages for infringing on its patents. The lofty sum follows up on the $600 million initially awarded last year. The two companies rendezvoused back in court this week to resolve one of the largest patent trials in history. In August of last year, Apple officially won over $1 billion in its ongoing suit with Samsung, but the damages were eventually reduced.

Eight jurors are to deliberate and determine how much Samsung owes Apple for infringing on five of Apple's patents related to design and functionality. Apple landed on the $380 million figure by calculating lost profits, Samsung's profits and royalties owed. According to Apple attorney Harold McElhinny, Samsung sold over 10 million infringing devices, leading to about $3.5 billion in revenue. "That money should have gone to Apple," McElhinny said during opening statements.

Jurors are expected to deliberate over a final amount in the coming weeks; another trial is slated to kick off in March. The two companies have agreed to hold settlement talks and send in a proposal by January 8. Samsung is on the hook for the $600 million amount, but the new jury is meant to decide how much more Samsung owes.

Google Nexus 5 vs. iPhone 5S: 4 Killer Features of New KitKat Device that Easily Rout its iOS 7 Rival

It's no secret that the new Nexus 5 is chiefly armed to neutralise its number one foe - the iPhone 5S, and in doing so Google will complete its dominance of the global smartphone arena thanks to its latest hero smartphone.

But is the Nexus 5 up to the task and finally slay the premium handset that delivers billions of revenues to Apple? What exactly are the new killer features that Google brought to the table with the KitKat-powered device? Will they be enough to match the attraction that Apple has commanded among its millions since the first iPhone was introduced?

The list below offers four of the major handset functions and features that Google and LG have cooked up for the Nexus 5, hopefully making the device a real iPhone killer:

Monster processing chips and higher RAM

Apple introduced 64-bit computing with the A7 chips that it deployed with the iPhone 5S and with the move, Apple boldly labelled its 2013 flagship as forward-looking. The boasted too that the iPhone ecosystem is being configured, at accelerated rate, so users can actually benefit to the faster and more advanced mobile computing standard.

Google immediately countered by equipping the LG Nexus 5 with a quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip that wallops on a top-speed of 2.3GHz. And to ensure that overall performance is snappy and error free, a 2GB of RAM was included in the package, effectively surpassing the 5S' 1GB RAM provision.

As a bonus, the Nexus 5 can also depend on an Adreno 330 graphic workhorse to fire up its immersive screen display rendering, which Google has hardwired with the recoded Android 4.4 or KitKat.

Screen display supremacy

Reviewers called the Nexus 5 a beast when it comes to screen prowess. It has a 1080p display resolution that floods the phone viewing panel with pixel density of 440ppi. The numbers easily eclipse the 5S' Retina-powered screen with only 326 of pixel per inch occupying the front panel.

But the contest is actually decided by the screen sizes that the two devices are flashing. The Nexus 5 bears a phablet-size 5-inch screen while the iPhone 5S was made to do with a 4-inch profile, merely replicating the iPhone 5 serving already seen in Q4 2012.

Faster and more stable Wi-Fi connection

Not only that the Nexus 5 has expanded its connectivity reach by jumping into the LTE bandwagon, the device also boasts of the latest Wi-Fi chip that fully adheres to the 802.11ac wireless standard. That would mean Nexus 5 owners can access faster feeds from a router compatible with the new wireless protocol.

The phone can also connect while enjoying a wider range, experts said.

Better price deals

Unlocked, the most basic Nexus 5 model retails for only $350. While it's true that the iPhone 5S can be had for only $200 or less, the pricing model is applicable only for U.S. consumers who enjoy the subsidies offered by telcos in exchange for lock-in period agreements.

For the rest of the world, the Nexus 5 appears to dangle the best deal available for a flagship phone. For instance, buyers planning to grab the 32GB Nexus 5 with cellular connectivity will only need to pay $400 for the handset (or a bit more as usual the case in some markets).

For the iPhone 5S with similar configuration, the cash damage could go as high as $750 (or more, again in some markets), which for some would get them three iPhone 5S units should they opt to pick up the 16GB model.

The Nexus 5 currently is in display on the Google Play Store though reports of depleted inventory have been increasing latest as consumers race to secure the fast-disappearing KitKat 4.4 device.

Welcome aboard!

You don't need to use the auto type, it's a fairly new feature. But you will be surprised as to how well it predicts the next word for you. But personally I dtint use it as it slows me down.

Tip, If you type a new word that doesn't exist Luke "jinn", note that the highlight is slightly dim or you have to retype the word again when you do that, you touch on the word in blue and it'll save it to your personal dictionary. If by accident you save the wrong word, you can always go into the dictionary and delete it.

There is also a Swype feature that some people love, personally, it slows me down.

I guarantee, you will fall in love with the keyboard and note that we even have a comma, something the Apple keypad had on a different selection.

BUT as you quite rightly put it, "The phone has taken the game to another level"

Welcome to the world of android and more reassuring, welcome to the world of HTC.

Here's To Change.

Give us your honest thoughts good or bad, awaiting more input!

ماشاء الله so pleased for you :-D

Once you find your way around and adapt to the HTC one, seriously....no regrets, and your going to love it. It's a big jump from using an iPhone so expect the unexpected.

I've got the HTC one x....and I wouldnt change it for anything, prefer to upgrade to a HTC one, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with my handset, and no excuse to upgrade, mind you....think I've only had it a few months, thanks to this thread ماشاء الله

It's an upgrade from HTC desire s, which ive still kept as a back up phone, and would have no issues reverting to use, but upgraded to HTC one x mainly for the larger screen. Brilliant handsets in my opinion.
