Apple voted Britain's coolest brand

Apple has been voted the coolest brand in the UK, overtaking car maker Aston Martin.

Aston Martin has been top of the annual Coolbrands survey for six of the last seven years but this year it has been overtaken by Apple, which released the iPhone 5 last week.

Technology brands were well represented in the top 20, with YouTube coming second, Twitter in fourth - a place behind Aston Martin - and Google fifth.

Bang & Olufsen, Sony, Bose and Skype also made the Coolbrands top 20, which was determined by a survey of 3,000 people and the opinions of 39 designers, style magazine editors and other experts. Judges are asked to rate brands based on their uniqueness, originality, style, innovation, authenticity and desirability.

Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the CoolBrands expert council, said: "It is interesting that in this age of austerity our perception of cool has increasingly shifted from aspirational, luxury brands to free or more affordable brands that provide us with pleasure."

Those dropping out of the list this year include two technology brands: BlackBerry and Nintendo. Also out of this year's list were Ferrari, Alexander McQueen and Chanel.

New entrants this year include two ice cream brands - Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs - as well as Virgin Atlantic, the Glastonbury festival and the BBC iPlayer.

Jazakallah for that Seifeddine.

I wonder what kind of people they surveyed. Glastonbury is a huge hint of the type of people.

Looks like the survey was taken outside a department store which reflect the results. Or even in a huge shopping center.

1. Apple (over priced)

2. YouTube (worldwide)

3. Aston Martin (rich man's car)

4. Twitter (on most phones)

5. Google (naturally)

6. BBC iPlayer (you can't be serious)

7. Glastonbury (astagfirullah)

8. Virgin Atlantic (better than BA)

9. Bang & Olufsen (rich man's designer gadgets)

10. Liberty (over priced store)

11. Sony (in everyones house)

12. Bose (rich man's speakers)

13. Haagen-Dazs (ice cream, well there are more women)

14. Selfridges (central London)

15. Ben & Jerry's (ice cream again)

16. Mercedes-Benz (rich man's mini cab)

17. Vogue (rich wanna be women)

18. Skype (money saving calls, abroad with video)

19. Nike (under my feet)

20. Nikon (camera's for enthusiasts, paparazi taking photos of rich one's)

Well the survey was taken in a highly rich populated area with tons of women.

HTC, does what it says on the tin with no hassle.

Doesn't help the riots in China over Apple.

iPhone 5 is the successor of the iPhone 4s. For many, the iPhone 5 may be the best gadget out there. But if you look closely, it's not as good as you think. First of all, the iPhone 5 is extremely expensive. The iPhone 5 tear down suggests that it would take Apple only around 178$ to manufacture one iPhone 5. From there we can get a idea how expensive Apple have tagged their products with.

Most of all, iPhone 5 lacks flexibility. Although iPhone 5 is powered by Bluetooth 4.0, you can't do basic thing like transfer file from one device to another. You still have to be dependent upon iTunes for file transfer. The User Interface looks dull and boring as it always looked. There still aren't home screens to swype through. The notification bar doesn't give you quick access to settings. You have to go through a hefty process just to change your ring tone.
Although Apple has finally increased the size of iPhone to 4 inch, that may not be enough for hard core smartphone users . At least, a 4.3 inch screen would have done the job.Apple decided to remove Google Maps and that was one of their main mistake. Google Maps is the best navigation software so far. Like the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5 has most of it's part made of glass. If you drop it once, don't be surprised if a part of the phone is cracked. Some people say why not keep protection cover but if you keep it, what's the point of having such glossy back?

The iPhone 5 also lacks support of micro-sd card. That means you can't expand your device as per your wish. The 32GB and 64GB iPhone are terribly expensive. While a 32 GB micro-sd card only costs about 20$, if you want to have a 32GB iPhone instead of 16GB, you will have to pay 100$ more just for 16GB extra storage. Further, iPhone 5 lacks removable battery option which means no third party powerful battery like mugen batteries. If you travel a tot, you won't be able to carry spare battery due to closed battery cover. In addition to that, the battery life of iPhone 5 isn't that good either. You use a lot of application, then be sure that it won't even last for a day or so. iPhone 5 is no huge leap over iPhone 4s with most of the things kept same. Most of all, Apple's decision to remove Google Maps was a blunder. Apple Maps is nowhere near Google Maps & is full of error. You won't get street view feature either. Don't be fooled and never go after apple. Be smart and chose smartphone that best suits you!
Honestly, if you don't go for brand name, iPhone just isn't the device for you. Keep all the things I said in mind and you will never regret. Stay tuned and stay updated!

You'll need it so that when you get fed up, you can put into a Windows or Android phone, or even other handsets.

Apple is hiring ex-Google Maps employees to fix gimped iOS Maps app

Apple Hiring Former Google Maps Employees

Apple’s (AAPL) iOS 6 Maps app is a big mess. Hot off news that Apple had listed six new job positions for developers to help fix its new Maps app, TechCrunch has learned from an inside source that the company is already hiring former Google (GOOG) Maps employees. Its source claims that many ex-Google Maps workers are being snapped up by Apple as their contracts end and Google’s ambitions turn away from Street View and turn-by-turn navigation to indoor mapping.

Another quality control issue hits Apple as iPhone 5 owners report light leaks

iPhone 5 Light Leak

In light of all the complaints from customers receiving new iPhone 5 handsets that scratch and scuff easily, it appears another problem is plaguing Apple’s (AAPL) latest product: light leakage. According to MacRumors forum member “Leotno,” some white iPhone 5 models are showing slight light leakage between device’s glass display and chamfered aluminum antenna. BGR has confirmed on one of its own units (see photo below) that there is indeed a small crack on some new iPhone 5 units located just below the power button. It’s uncertain at this point if the issue is an isolated one that affects only some iPhone 5 models or if it’s actually a widespread defect.

Siri is fouling up weather forecasts for major cities and suffering from intermittent outages

Siri Weather Forecast

New York iPhone users who ask Siri for a weather forecast this week might be surprised to learn that the Big Apple is expected to register temperatures in the mid-90s for the next several days. Of course, that’s not the actual New York weather forecast, but a weather forecast for the town of New York that’s located in Texas. MacRumors reports, and BGR has independently confirmed, that Siri is coming up with the wrong results for weather requests in several towns, including the particularly egregious example where Siri pulls up the weather in New York, Texas when asked for weather in New York. BGR also experienced intermittent connectivity issues with Siri on Monday, although it’s unknown whether this is related to Siri’s weather forecast mistakes.

Im just confused. If you hate something why do you go on about it?

We all get the picture, you dont like Apple.

I like Apple, I can afford to WASTE my money on apples OVERPRICED products, Alhamdulillah.

Why should that bother anyone else?

Im sure you got more important things in life to do, then to find excuses on why not to buy Apple products Or become the ambassador of Android.

Shukran.

I don't want the rest of my brother's and sisters to fall into this false trap of "The moat sophisticated iPhone ever" when it can't do the simplest of things.

Let's not forget, its on the light side not the serious side.

Jazakallahu khair.

PS if someone posts in favour of Apple, I like to agree but at the same time I like to let the others know the other side.

I'm no ambassador for Droids, I would recommend Windows too.

iOS has nothing to offer Android or Windows users, this is where they slack.

MashaAllah, may Allah give you barakah in your rizk.
