Ok I have no idea whether this event actually occured because it don't seem like a life like thing to happen. You'll see why, but the riddle's good.
A man got 30 bottles.
10 Full
10 half full
10 empty
He gave all 30 to his three wives. The three wives started to quarrel about who should take which bottles. He got frustrated and said, "If you do not distribute ALL of these bottles EQUALLY amongst yourselves then Talaaq (Divorce) to all of you.
There is ONE solution from which the wives can be saved from divorce. Can you figure out how these bottles can be distributed equally??
Remember, the bottles being distributed equally means the contents be devided equally. If there is any doubt that the contents might not have been moved equally, there could be doubt of divorce.
10 Full - 3 full to each wife = 9 Full ... 1 Full remains
10 half full, pour 2 each into empty bottle to make 5 Full.
These 5 Full plus the above 5 full bottles makes 6 Full. Each wife = 2 Full from this.
Total 3+2 = 5 Full bottles each.
10 Empty bottles plus the 5 Empty bottles from from the half full which were poured into the other 5 makes total 15 Empty. 15/3 = 5 empty bottles each
Type one:10 full bottles.
3 to each wife. 1 remians.
Type two:10 half full bottles.
Pour five of the bottles contents into the other 5 half empty bottles so they become full.
Now there are 5 full bottles and five empty of type two.
Get the left over bottle from the first type so 5 full bottles+ one full bottle make 6 full bottles. Give two to each wife.
Now there are 15 empty bottles. Give 5 to each wife
OR
Wife 1...3 full bottles, 3 half full bottles and three empty bottles = 9 bottles.
Wife 2...3 full bottles, 3 half full bottles and three empty bottles = 9 bottles.
Wife 3...3 full bottles, 3 half full bottles and three empty bottles = 9 bottles.
=27 bottles.
There are three bottles left. One full one. One half one and one empty one.
From the full bottle, pour exactly half into the empty bottle so all the bottles become half full. Now give one to each wife.
=30 bottles shared out equally between 3 wives
MashaAllah, first guest got it right and so did Striver's first method. The 2nd method of Striver leaves a doubt in making a full a bottle into half. However, the easiest method is as follows...
"A". 10 Full - Leave as they are
"B". 10 Half - Pour 5 half into the other half = 5 Full and 5 Empty
"C". 10 Empty + the 5 Empty of "B" = 15 Empty
5 Full of "B" + 10 Full of "A" = 15 Full
15 Full - 15 Empty
5 Full each, 5 Empty Each - No doubt, no fuss, no divorce and they live happily ever after. Well done Guest and Striver, yours was right too, just a different method.
Okay, im new hear but wouldn't it have been easier if u left the 10 half full bottles to the side, then emptied half of each full bottle in to the empty bottles, so that u have 30 half full bottles. Each wife has 10 half full bottles, sorted.
Again, in this situation, wife 1 and 2 have the same, and wife 3 has the same but in a different manner. The only solution where all 3 are equal is the one above. I like the method, just not 100% with the outcome.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
