On a light note taking into consideration true facts and problems we face everyday.

Father: Son, I'm serious about our future and the problems will have if we buy a TV, Mobile or even Internet. If you don't believe me, ask Mufti Saab. I promise you, I will take his word for it and do exactly as he advises you. My advice to you is to seek guidance from the elders, Please!

Student: Mufti Saab, My father says I'm not allowed to use the internet because it will soil my heart and lead me astray, What shall I do?

Sheikh: Your father is correct, the internet is very dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.

Student: Mufti Saab, my father also says that I can't have a smart phone because it will open the doors to fitnah and I will have access to the internet, What shall I do?

Sheikh: Your father is correct, the smartphone is very dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.

Student: Mufti Saab, My father will not allow us to have a TV in the house as it contains much filth, What shall I do?

Sheikh: Your father is correct, having a TV in the house will create much fitnah and will open doors to much nudity and so on.

Student: MashaAllah Mufti Saab, you are full of knowledge, how can I learn more from you, What shall I do?

Sheikh: Well son, you must watch my satellite channel where I give daily Dars, you must follow me on Facebook, subscribe to my twitter feeds, join our Telegram group, subcribe to our Whats App broadcast, subscribe to my YouTube channel and before I forget, please like my Facebook page!

Student: JazakAllah Mufti Saab :(

Student (Son): Dad, I did as you said and asked Mufti Saab why you won't allow me to access the internet, watch TV or have a smart phone.

Father: Alhumdulillah. I told you it will help.

Son: Yep, Ive just ordered an OLED Curved TV with a satellite subscription to watch his channel, I ordered an iPhone with unlimited data to subscribe to his chats and watch his videos and I've also got the fastest internet speed package to be installed at home :) Dad, I love you. Thanks for the advice.

Edit: Changed to Sheikh

Dear Brother:

I know the post is made in a lighter vein, but does it not show in poor light the mufti sahab who is on TV, youtube, and facebook? Is the mufti sahab who engages in all of this being hypocritical?

Jzk.

To be perfectly honest, it's about the layperson.

Where do they go in such situations?

It has happened many times. Teachers teaching others not to this that and the other, yet you see them posing for photos, coming on TV, doing interviews with women and so on, so in that sense I would say it is being hypocritical to a certain degree.

Also, there are Mufti's out there who are engaged in these acts but under strict guidelines, again to a certain extent.

There is a perception that certain things can be done by scholars but not their followers to avoid chaos and confusion. :(

Not saying you won't find a fatwa online that says what you posted, but I have never heard a sheikh or mufti say those things about the internet and phones. Yes they may caution regarding how it is used and monitoring children. Although I did hear a shaykh from India mention that Twitter is forbidden to use and very dangerous, but by that time so many respected ulama were on twitter that obviously the shaikh and no clue about the different types of social media etc

السلام علیکم ورحمة الله وبركاته

A mastoorat (ladies) jama'at came to stay at our home a few years ago. I was using my phone so a lady who was the wife of Ameer Sahab, started explaining me that mobile phones are very dangerous for our Iman. I told her that I was reading an Islamic book and phone is a necessity coz we have to contact people when we go out. But she denied that its a necessity and said she was surviving without a phone. The irony was that she was using my mum's phone to contact her husband.

Nowadays when a jamat comes there are cellphones charging everywhere in the masjid, and most of them are looking for wifi password to call home on WhatsApp. As you said, means of communication.

The point is as the title suggests - a TV Predicament!

Many if not all of the Ulama who do say TV is not allowed (not saying it is haram) end up on TV one way or the other anyway. I just find it ironic. We find ourselves in this irony on so many levels.

the ulema have a difference of opinion on the use of tv and the internet.

both groups have very good reasons for their respective positions. which opinion we adopt depends on the environment we find ourselves in.

hanafi ulema of landlocked areas say prawns are unlawful, while hanafi ulema in coastal areas say they are lawful. the verdict differs because of the way each group defines what the word "fish" denotes.

we would take the opinion of that group which causes least hardship in our environment while not endangering our deen and iman.

The internet issue cannot be compared to the shrimps issue. Yes the ulama differ on the permissibility of digital images and videos on a TV, so there is a difference of opinion like there is on shrimp.

Then you can compare the harms of TV and internet and issue a ruling on that, but that cannot be compared to the shrimps issue,as the basis of the rulings would be totally different.

The thread was meant to be a joke!

When we were young, there was a joke (not very good) where the person says that he didn't swear, didn't smoke and didn't drink. Then he would end with, "Oh (swear word), I forgot my cigarettes at the local pub"

That's the same scenario here.

It's meant to be ironic.
