Saqifah Bani Sa'eedah

A Beautiful Garden. A Cool, Shaded Sanctuary in the Marble & Concrete Surrounding of Masjid Nabawi.

Saqeefa (the dark blue circled area) is one of the few tiny patches of garden 200 meters north-west of Masjid Nabawi. Banu Sa'edah, an eminent tribe of the Ansar resided here at the time of Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam.

The Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam used to visit Saqeefa, offering Salat there, sitting in the shade with his Companions. Sahl ibn Sa'd RadhiAllahu anhu drew water for him from a nearby well called Bir Budha'ah. This well existed just north of Saqeefa until the second Saudi extension of Masjid Nabawi.

The death of the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam led to the question as to who was to be the leader of the Muslims after the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. While the noble body of the Prophet of Islam SallAllahu alaihi wasallam was being prepared for burial the Ansar of Madinah assembled at their meeting place Saqeefa Bani Sa'edah to discuss the question of succession. The Stream of Zarqaa'

Until the khalifate of Muawiyah RA, the dwellers of Madinah would depend mainly on wells for their water supply. Muawiyah RA constructed a modern water link system which availed the people of Damascus water close to their homes.

He said to the Governor of Madinah, Marwan ibn Hakam, "I feel shy that the people of Damascus drink from near their homes while the people of Madinah have to drink from far away wells. Make for them like what I have made for the people of Damascus."

Marwan consulted experts in this field and they concluded that an underground canal should be built. The waters of the well of Quba were internally combined at an underground intersection west of Masjid Quba and their waters made to flow through Madinah in an underground stream. It had manholes at different intervals to draw water.

Marwan was blue eyed (In Arabic: Zarqaa) thus, it was named The Stream of Zarqaa'. It was maintained through history by different Muslim rulers.

In 1349 A.H. King Abdul Aziz formed a watch committee for this stream. They put the foundation of a new water link system: after renovating the stream they placed pipes inside it with smaller pipes branching off providing a water connection to every home.

In view of the increased water consumption, purified sea-water was also added into the stream. The water board has now built twenty water storage tanks from where water is supplied through the water link system throughout Madinah.

Previously we shared a video of the interior of the Ka'bah, here is a 2 years old video from inside the zamzam well.

Many people have been to the zamzam well and seen the structure which has been built as the current well, a replica of which is also in the museum.

This short video shows the same well but it also shows a clip of the water behind the screens deep down.

SPA Camera Takes Madinah Photos from 500 Meters High

Madinah, Dhu-AlHijjah 23, 1436, Oct 7, 2015, SPA

Saudi Press Agency "SPA" has taken, from over about 500 meters high, a number of photos of the most prominent landmarks of Madinah topped by the Holy Mosque of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in particular, and its surrounding squares.

On board one of the public security's helicopters, the Agency also took a set of pictures of Mount Uhud and Mount Al-Rumah (shooters) where under its foothill, the historical battle of Uhud (Ghazwah Uhud) was fought and a number of other photos of Mosques of Qubbah, Al-Joma, Qiblah and Al-Miqat as well as Al-Masajid Al-Sabah where the Al-Khandaq battle (Ghazwah Al-Khandaq) was fought, in addition to pictures of the historic Museum of Al-Hejaz Railway and the location of the gathering point for pilgrims coming to and from Madinah.

This comes within the framework of cooperation between the Saudi Press Agency and the Public Security's Aviation.

The flight was supervised by Major General Mohammed bin Eid Al-Harbi, Commander of the Public Security's Aviation, the Ministry of Interior.
