THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF DHUL-HIJJAH"There are no other days that are asgreat as these in the sight of Allah, the Most Sublime. Nor are there anydeeds more beloved to Allah thenthose that are done in these tendays. So increase in tahlil (to say laillaha illallah), takbir (to say allahuakbar) and tahmid (to say alhumdulillah)." TabaraniIbn Hajar says in Fath al-Bari:Fasting on the 9th of Dhul Hijah dayof 'Arafah -"Be content with the fact that Allahwill expiate for you your sins for theyear before (the day of 'Arafah)and the year after (the day of'Arafah)." [Reported by Muslim]However, whoever is at 'Arafah as a pilgrimthen fasting is not expected of him, as theProphet, peace be upon him, stoppedat 'Arafah to eat. There are a number of ways of making takbir that have been narratedby the companions and their followers and from these ways is the following:Allahu akbar, allahu akbar, allahu akbar kabirun.Allahu akbar, allahu akbar,la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, wallahu akbar,wa lillahil hamd.Allahu akbar, allahu akbar, allahuakbar, la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, allahu akbar wa lillahil hamd. i.e. salawat (prayers), siyam (fasting), sadaqah (charity) andthe Hajj (pilgrimage). In no other periods do these greatdeeds combine."Salaah/Prayer - It is highlyrecommended to perform theobligatory acts at their prescribed times (as early as possible) and to increase oneself inthe nafl superogatory acts, forindeed, this is what brings aperson closer to their Lord. The Messenger of Allah,(SAW),said: "Upon you is to increase inyour prostration to Allah, forverily you do not prostrate toAllah with even one prostration, except that He raises youin degrees and decreasesyour sins because ofit." [Reported by Muslim]Fasting "The Prophet, (SAW),would fast on the ninth of DhulHijjah, the day of Ashura andthree days in everymonth." Abu Dawud, an-Nisa'iImam an-Nawawi said thatfasting in these 9 days is extremely recommended.
