السلام عليكم

The dua that we see in nearly all masajid on the walls etc in the time of Ramadan which is recited by everyone loudly after every 4 rakaats.

I was talking to someone the other day who said something along the lines 'that this is wrong and their is no basis for it'.

Any truth to this, Is it true it's a bidah, can anyone confirm/clarify ?

As far as I know, its only mustahab to recite. Definitely not a Sunnah. They used to be in our Masjid for years, but they haven't been putting them up for a long time now.

Is it a Hanafi thing ? As I don't recall seeing any such posters in the Middle East.

Feel free to correct me if wrong.

QUESTION.

Is it sunnah, mustahab or anything else to sit after every four rakats in salatul taraweeh?
2.During that sitting, what dua do I read?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful

Answer:

It is stated in the books of jurisprudence (Alamgeer (Fatawa Hindiyah Vol 1 P 115) & Raddul Mukhtaar Vol 1 P522) that the sitting after every four rakats in Taraweeh is Mustahab.

During that sitting, it is Mustahab to recite tasbeeh, tahleel (Laa ilaha illallah), dua or durood.

Imam Qahastani states in Minhajul Ibaad that the following may be recited thrice:

"Subhana zil mulki wal malakuti subhana zil izzati wal azmati wal qudrati wal kibriya ee wal jabarooth. Subhanal malikil hayyil lazi la yanamu wa la yamuto subbu hun quddusun rabbul malaikati war rooh. La ilaha illal lahu. Nas tagh firullah. Nas a lukal jannah wana ozubika minan naar".

Allah Knows best

Informative and interesting as I came across some ulema the other day and none of them recited the dua whilst sitting.

Will have to confirm when I see them, or maybe because its just mustahab.

Is there no Hadith that contains the du'a?

If not, I'll avoid saying it then.

Good catch brother Jinn.

Its only Mustahab, PLEASE DON'T Avoid getting multiple rewards.

See what the Salaf did

It is well known that the people of Makkah used to perform Tawaf after every 4 rakats as their pause (Tarweeha) and because the people of Madinah were unable to perform Tawaf, they prayed 4 rakats Nafil Salah individualy and not in jamaat, as their pause (Tarweeha), making a total of 36 rakats in Madinah, but this act was soon stopped.

Where is the daleel for it though, akhi?

Just because an Imam is suggesting to read it doesn't sit too well with me if it's nothing the Prophet (SAW) or Sahabas (RA) used to do.

Then perform 4 rakats Nafil Salah like Imam Malik and his students did.

The meaning of Taraweeh is to "pause". So one can either waste that time or make dhikr and receive multiple rewards. The choice is yours. It's not Biddah unless you consider it Sunnah.

Akhi, I am not saying it is a bidah and I am not saying it isn't either. I play it safe and don't accept anything unless there is some daleel for it (Qur'an or Sunnah).

I'll just stick with reciting astagfirullah after each unit of 2 rakats in case I've made any errors, so they're accepted. That's more important to me.

The issue her is the Pause between the 4 Raka'ah.

Making Istigfar is in accordance to Sunnah anyway wheteher it is after 2 or 4 rakat. However, if you mean reciting it after every 4 Rakats anyway, whats the difference? Its still Dhikrullah.

I was referring to reciting that du'a. If there is no solid dalil for it then I shall say astagfhar instead.

Do you have solid proof for saying Istighfar instead during the 4 Rak'aat pause?
More so do you have solid proof that it's pronounced "A"staghfar with a Alif Maftooh?

This way of thinking will only put you at loss. No one else

For me, Ulamaa recommending it is plenty Daleel. Ulamaa such as Allamah Ibn Abideen Al Shami. I'd rather recite what Ulamaa have recommended than sit silently or make my own deductions and decide "what's better". Yes I will not force it on anyone and I won't put it up on a poster either but completely disregarding it like a plague because it's not Sunnah is the just plain Salafi influence and very harmful to a layman. If I miss the Du'aa due to day dreaming or just simply forgetting then I won't sit there regretting it either. Everything has it's place and position. No need to make this such an important subject.

Asalamualaikum respected Maulana.

Any Ulema who recommends anything to me personally without any daleel is not sufficient for me to put into practice. I wish to be as close to 100% in my deen, that's my approach.

The matter of this du'a, like brother Jinn, I've too come across conflicting views on it hence I was curious too if there is any solid proof for it and apparently there isn't (from Qur'an and Sunnah).

I didn't label it as a bidah nor did I say it isn't. My original stance on the matter was entirely neutral, but now that you've confirmed it's been prescribed by a scholar. I retract my statement and say it's definitely not a bidah, but I personally choose not recite it.

Jazak'Allah for the clarification.
