Hazrat Maulana Marghoob Ahmed Lajpoori (حفظه الله) writes:

“In these times people have exceed the boundaries concerning the “Tarāwīh Du‘ā’,”. Especially in Britain, in many masaajid the “Tarāwīh Du‘ā’,” is printed on huge posters and hanged up on the wall of the Qiblah. However, the Fuqaha have stated that if people start to grant a mustahab act the status of a wajib act, then it must be abandoned. Here, the situation is that, forget the layman, even the ulama are devoted in reciting this Tasbih. It is also becoming a custom to recite it audibly and people are taking pleasure in it.

Who has given the status of wajib to taraweeh dua? No one. It is sometimes missed, some times read loudly. Nothing wrong if it is read with low voice.
One should not force upon once's taqwa on others. Let the masses follow a mustahab.
No ghuloo please on framing rules.

Taqwa says it shall be discontinud
Fatwa says let the masses follow it.

Keep taqwa to yourself and don't read the dua. And allow masses to follow fatwa.

salaam

on a side note, many of these posters are sponsored by local businesses who use them to advertise their business in the masajids by printing their business details and telephone numbers on them. i find that quite despicable to use the masjid for business.

Guest , one issue is when almost every masjid in one area or of one group hangs multiple posters at the front of the masjid every year. This is over emphasizing a dua that has no superiority over other Duas. Also many fatwas say it is not mustahab.

Awwaam (masses) know this dua, they print it. If ulema educate them about other duas they shall print them also. Intentionally they are not displaying it to establish a bidah.

In Indian sub-continent, we feel happy when our brothers visit masjid for Taraweeh, In 10 days, the masjid gets 90% empty. Let us place our energies there.

I read the 3rd Kalimah, subhanallahi wal hamdulillahi......... during the break.

Last year one musalli got angry cause imam didnt gave enough time to recite this dua or why some people engage in futile things instead reciting this dua. I then told him not to worry about this dua, and recite shorter dua mentioned in hadith.

Shortening in the name of hadith.

Let me quote my practical experiences.

30*20=600 rakat taraweeh with completing one quran is reduced to 3*8 rakat taraweeh with no quran

2+4+2+2+2 =12 or 12+8=20 rakat sunnah salah is reduced to just 2 rakat. And about ishraq, awabeen, chashth and tahajjud Wallahu A'alam

washing our limbs 3 times to one

witr from 3 to 1

our friend was reciting 3rd kalimah, durood, astagar 200 times using tasbeeh, tasbeeh was termed bidah and now he never recites that.

A long list.

Is this a revolution?

But, qurbani days increased from 3 to 5 for eating meat.

We don't where we are leading to.

You follow a weaker hadith

we follow weak hadith

we follow only saheeh hadith

We follow only Quran.

Then bye bye to Islam.

It's great to see this new breed of shuyookh revolting against tarawih dua yet they will still endorse other things not proven from the sunnah.

Like the 80 durud after friday asr which is hung in many mosques, as if it is the most authentic durud ever. It's not established anywhere other than Sakhawi's book, which was quoted by Kandhalwi in Fazail Aamal. Because it is in FA, it is promoted by many people now. It has no basis despite what some fatwas have tried to prove.

Another similar baseless practice which many treat as sunnah is the ya noor wazifa after salah. This is baseless and not from the sunnah.

If the shuyookh are going to focus on the tarawih dua only and not address the underlying problem, the tarawih dua and everything else will never be eradicated through education - because the underlying mentality in education is flawed.

A total revision of religious practices is required. Unfortunately, almost everyone from the scholars is scared to do so because they are worried of being accused of going against the akabireen. Because of this, real progress is a distant prospect.

The real issue here is that, we insist on

"My Akabir view only shall prevail"

So, instead of fine tuning, let us concentrate and place our energies on other major issues, like the dua of taraweeh, let us use our energies on bringing more people to taraweeh.
