Wifaqul Ulama urges Muslims in Britain to attempt to sight the Moon for Ramaḍān 1440 on the evening of SUNDAY the 05th of MAY 2019. This will be the 29th of Sha‘bān 1440. Moon sighting results should be reported to Wifaqul Ulama, you can notify us via our Email, Twitter, Facebook or by calling +447956589613.

In Islam, Moonsighting is done AFTER sunset so announcement will be about 30 minutes after sunset.

All 12 Islamic months are subject to sighting of the Moon and Ramadhan is no exception.

Sighting of the Moon is needed for Ramadhan just like all the other 11 months.

Question: How did Saudi Arabia saw the Moon before sunset (Maghrib)?

Answer: Because they are trying to do so during the day using CCD. It is not Moonsighting

CCD is not sighting of the Moon. It is an imaging technology. Saudi Scholars do not know any different and are not versed with technology and its usage.

Tomorrow Morning we will begin Astronomical imaging of the Ramadhan Crescent using CCD camera in several Arab countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Jordan and Morocco)

We may watch the Ramadhan Moon in broad daylight on Sunday via CCD which will be published here and at other places where Astronomers visit.

Reading your comments on moonsighting for past year or two now. Have concluded Private Bladrick is more competent and knowledgeable on the issue then you'll ever be. Bhai you've had years... years and yet ?! (facepalm)
 

The Hilaal for Ramadhān 1440 was not sighted in the UK. We have received no declarations of positive Moonsighting from Morocco and South Africa. Wifaqul Ulama Shura have therefore decided that the month of Shaʿbān 1440 will complete 30 days . 1st day of Ramadhān1440 is on TUESDAY, the 07th of MAY 2019.
