in recent months ISIS have gained alot of support and admiration espeically from youths who are someone taken in by their 'success' in taking large areas iraq and syria. despite being very extreme and killing anyone who seems to question there authority people are taken in by them. i was recently sent this link by a friend who unfortunatly has been taken in by their propaganda and will be grateful if any ulemah or knowledgeble brothers (sisters too) who can answer the points raised. they claim to be using quran hadith and classical ulema to support abubakr al baghdadi is a legitiment calif. i understand this is a delicate issues and if mods feel neccessary to close thread or if its going in the wrong direction please feel free to do so. the link is 'light revelations 21' on youtube

Therefore it would be wise not to take this discussion further in case we are misinformed and make gheebah, slander, nameemah, speculation, accusations etc.
The media has lied to us many times before and the Quran tells us that not to trust them nor befriend them as they will only side with their own.
jazakAllah for reply. my questions are not so much regarding what they done or not done as its true 99% we read hear and see in media is full of lies and unless we are physically there we cant make a fair judgement but their actual legitimacy. islamically speaking can someone go around and just declare themself as a calif? i thought there had to be some sort of consultation or ijma of scholars? also what is our responsibility towards them because if they are legitiment do we make dua for them even though from what it seems is they are killing everyone including sunnis who merely question his claim
We have only heard that they have killed innocent Muslims by the media.
Khilafat can still be valid even if only a few people accept and even if 2 billion reject. History it witness to this.
With regards to the Dua, then of course we should make Dua to Allah to guide us all and show us the truth, guide those Not on the truth, to return them to the truth.
As I said, this isn't a topic that can be discussed especially when we can't verify anything.
