The Sign of Pride Leaving a Person

Hazrat Sheikh Moulana Zakariyya (rahmatullahi 'alaihi) mentioned:

Once a person wrote a letter to me asking, "What is the sign that pride no longer remains with a person?" I replied that if any person finds fault with you, then you are not overcome by anger. Instead you begin to examine within your heart whether what the person has said is true or not. If after pondering and reflecting over the situation, your heart tells you that the statement the person made was correct and you suffer from that weakness, then you are immediately prepared to accept your mistake and correct yourself. If this is your condition, then this is a sign that pride has left you. However, on the converse, if after hearing the statement of that person, you are overcome by rage and anger without even taking a moment to think whether what was said was correct or not, then this is a clear sign of you having pride".

'as Samad'

When the forceful flow of Allah سبحانه وتعالى mercy begins, one grounded in kufr (state of disbelief) not only becomes a Wali (saint) but within seconds is elevated to the higher realms of sainthood. There is an incident of a Hindu in India who for ninety-nine years worshipped his idol with the words Sanam - Sanam. One day the word 'as Samad' which is one of Allah's سبحانه وتعالى names slipped from his tongue. Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه explained;

"as Samad is the one who is independent of the entire universe and on whom the entire universe is dependent."

As soon as the word 'as Samad' issued forth from the lips, Allah سبحانه وتعالى said, Labbayk (I am present O servant). The kaafir (non-believer) immediately broke the idol with a stick, recited the Kalima (shahada) and said to the Hindus;

"O wretched souls, I was a kaafir (non-believer) for ninety nine years I have been addressing this idol without a single reply. Today, by mistake I mentioned the name of the Muslim deity and received an immediate response with the word Labbayk (I am Present) from the heavens. [I am present, O my servant, it was you who had left me and betook yourself to the worship of idols who are deaf, dumb and blind]"

Hazrat shabbier saab is a great person mashallah. Before he would respond to emails very quickly etc. Do you know an easy way of contacting him? I wish somebody invited him to the UK. He would be a great asset for us and would benefit a lot of people. We also have a huge issue about salah timings and moonsighting which I'm sure hazrat shabbier saab would elaborate on as he is an expert in the field. I heard his name mentioned with the likes of hazrat musa bazi rh when it comes to astronomy.

TAFWEEZ

Allah سبحانه وتعالىsays:
"I assign my affair to Allah. Verily He sees all (His) servants."
Rasulullah (saw) said:
"When you arise in the morning do not contemplate in your heart about the evening, and when it is evening do not contemplate about the morning."

THE NATURE OF TAFWEEZ

Tafweez is to assign oneself to Allah Ta'ala. He may do with one as He desires. One's gaze and hope should be on none besides Allah. While employing the means and the agencies, the result of all things should be left to Allah Ta'ala.
Tafweez does not mean shunning the means and the agencies which Allah Ta'ala has created for the acquisition and rendering of affairs. It merely means that one's confidence and hope should he on none besides Allah Ta'ala. The result of the employment of the means and agencies should be left to Allah Ta'ala. In affairs not related to means and agencies, tafweez should be adopted from the very beginning. In such matters one should not adopt tajweez (plan and scheme).
ajwees (to plan, scheme and programme) is the cause for all worry, because of it being expected that the operation of a project planned should proceed along the set plan and programme arranged for it. If the result is contrary to expectation, worry and frustration are the consequence. The schemes initiated by man mostly consist of matters not within the control of his volition. It is therefor puerile to scheme about things not within one's volition. It is for this reason that the Ahlullaah (the Auliyaa) shun tajweez. They resign themselves entirely unto Allah Ta'ala and submit to the Pleasure of Allah Ta'ala.

It is necessary to abandon one's own scheme of operation and resign oneself to Allah. This applies to even the development of one's spiritual condition. In trodding the spiritual path of development one should not initiate one's own scheme. Assign everything to Him. Bestowal or the elimination of haalaat and kaifiyaat (spiritual conditions) should be assigned to Him. The seeker of Allah should annihilate his tajweez in the Tajweez of Allah Ta'ala. In other words, he has to adopt total and perfect abdiyat (submission and serfdom -being a total slave of Allah Ta'ala).

THE WAY OF ACQUIRING TAFWEEZ

When being confronted with an event which is in conflict with one's liking then immediately think that it is an act of Allah and most assuredly there is wisdom and goodness in it. In the beginning it will be difficult to acquire this attitude. However, constant reflection produces the annihilation of effort and then this attitude assumes a natural condition in the Ahlul-laah (the Auliyaa)

A Shepherd made jazb (attracted) by Allah سبحانه وتعالى

Shaykh Rumi رحمة الله عليه mentions that there was a shepherd herding a flock of goats, he was made jazb (attracted) by Allah سبحانه وتعالى. While attending to his herd, he was preoccupied with Allah and began assuming a conversation with the Almighty. He used to say,

"O Allah if I were to find You I would have served You. If you were to come this hillock upon which I graze my goats, I would sweep the place whereupon You sit. I would have massaged your hands and feet and given you my goats milk to drink. I would have made dough by mixing flour with goat's milk to make Roghni roti for You. You may not have had the opportunity to comb Your Hair for a very long time due to being occupied in controlling the universe. Thus I would have cleansed Your head of all the lice therein. I would have sewn a nice cushion for You."

Shaykh has rendered (these simple words of the Shepherd into a poem)...

Were I to locate You, My Lord and Master,
Daily would I have massaged Your hands and feet.

Where You would have sat, O Beloved Kind of my soul.

Daily would I have with eagerness swept.
Even your cushion would I have sewn. O Master!

In every possible way would I have been of service to You.

Fed you with Roghni-roti would I have.

With sweet water would I have quenched Your thirst.

At dawn and dusk would I have given You milk from my flock to drink.

O Lord of mankind!
My entire flock will be for You, were I to suffice.

My cries while attending my flock is in reality not out of concern for the flock

But are my laments of sorrow in Your separation.

One day Musa (as) happened to pass by and overheard these words of the shepherd. He immediately scolded him with these words,

"O wretched person, what are you saying? By these words you have become a kaafir (non-believer) because Allah سبحانه وتعالى is pure of having a body. How can there be lice in His head if He possesses no head? Since He has no hands and feet, how is it possible for you to massage them? Without a stomach how is it conceivable for you to feed Him? Since when is Allah in need of physical service, that you are offering it to him? Allah is neither in need of food nor drink. He is independent of the service of man. Immediately repent from these absurdities."

Taken aback by these words of Musa(as) the shepherd tore his shirt in a rage of guilt and betook himself to the wilderness out of fear. Allah سبحانه وتعالى revealed to Musa (as);

"Why did you separate My servant from Me O Musa? Ah! He was expressing his love, Why are you separating My servant from Me O Musa? Go and search for this servant of Mine. My illustrious court desires to hear again his ecstatic words expressing love for Me. O Musa the rules and ethics of intellect vary from the vogue of those whose intellect has been compromised by an excess of love for Me. To those who have, due to My love, torn to shreds their garments, do not give the command to darn and stitch. To those who are intoxicated and driven mad by My love, do not instruct with formality. Do not teach them the theme of leadership and guidance, for they are beyond becoming leaders and guides."
