Is the claim by Darul-uloom Bury or Hizb face-to-face or plastered all over the Internet? What does Shariah require for a mistake of this nature to be rectified?

If a mistake is made public and affects thousands of people, what does the Shariah command for it to be rectified?

Bit offtopic...

Last time we had moon-sighting in Kerala when the astronomical data said there is no chance of sighting. It was the only time when there was a consensus between the sunnis and salafis and its splinter branches that the moon was sighted. I remember saying to my friends there will be 30 days in Ramadan looking at the astronomical data in the moonsighting website and moon was sighted one day before contrary to the data.

So, i m not really into the astronomical data anymore.

No idea about the number of people bro. Only thing I know is that there was a consensus amongst the ulema. Both sunni and salafi.

OK so there is no conclusive negation of moon sighting calculation; I understand.

... was trying to work out the time the sighting alledgey took place after Magrhib. IF the sighters prayed Magrhib first then tried to attempt sighting then its highly likely the moon would have set already by the time they went for their attempt.

'Conclusive negation'. No.
But does that put the reliability of moon sighting calculations in doubt? Certainly yes.

no it doesnt...

few years back we had two witnesses claim here in Birmingham they 'witnessed' the hilal. it turned out the time they actually claimed to have sighted the helal was approx 20-25 mins after moonset. neither of the two local sighting deo ulama groups accepted the testimony ..nor any other non-deo local sighting uk group.

the north area of Pakistan usually theres about 1-2 'sighting' claims....which are hardly ever accepted by the majority of ulama of pakistan (including Karachi and Mufti Sultan Alam head of the Astronomy Dept in Jamiatur Rasheed)...because their almost always impossible sightings (many times in line/sync with the Saudi announcements)

personally for me if my son/dad said he saw the moon when it was impossible to do so...it wont persuade me in the slightest...

Salam All,

Good news! I am in Riyadh now and I have met the Saudi Justice Ministry officials and they personally confirmed receiving our petition and agreed with our proposals, Alhamdulillah.

They are working on a plan how to proceed ahead.

JazakAllah for all your support with the petition!

I was also invited to give a presentation & after 10 mins the ministry said they must make this compulsory for all judges before they are allowed to pass their final exam.

They requested a copy of my presentation to be translated into Arabic.

All the people I met with the Saudi Hilal Committees had a very positive view of ICOP &the good work our members are doing, so keep up the good work and keep signing the petition! JazakAllah
