I saw this tree before and I had asked Mufti Abdur-Rahman if this was correct. He told me that up until Hadhrat Adnan AS there is a narration from Hadith, beyond that is not 100%.

However I was listening to a talk for the very first time by Maulana Tariq Jamil, who narrated the whole chain. He also said that there were 80 generations between Our Prophet Muhammad SAW and Adam AS.

Allah knows best if the above is correct.

I have rechecked the names along with the talk, there are a few names that MaulanaTariq Jamil mentions, which are spelt differently and also a couple that are slightly different. Overall, it goes along the same line.

Got the following from an 'aalimah:

We only know for sure until Adnan
Above that, there is a difference of opinion so no one can specifically say whether it's correct or incorrect

It shows the relationship between the Prophets alayhimussalaam very well but doesnt mention ALL the children they had, only the main ones which needs to be borne in mind

Answer

The genealogical tree as far as ‘Adnan (no.22) is unanimously correct and recorded by Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) in his Sahih (before Hadith: 3851).

However, there is difference of opinion regarding the rest of the tree.

It was the opinion of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas that one should not even endeavor to establish more than this.

(Refer to Zad al-Ma’ad, vol.1 pg.70 & Fathul Bari, before Hadith: 3851)

Imam ibn Sa’d has reported on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas that whenever Rasulullah used to mention his lineage, he never used to go beyond Ma’ad ibn Adnan.

(Fathul Bari, before Hadith: 3851)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
