Why did the dog spread his arms in Surat Al-Kahf and not turn over while the people of the cave turned right and left?

We read Surat Al-Kahf more than 500 times and we did not notice that the dog did not turn over during his sleep, although we knew that the people of the cave turned over during their sleep so that their bodies would not get ulcers.

A German medical scientist says that I was traveling one day and I met a young man at the airport who gave me a translated copy of the Holy Quran. I thanked him and put the copy in my pocket with the intention of throwing it in the trash can after the young man disappeared from me so that I would not embarrass him.

The doctor forgot the copy in his pocket and boarded the plane. Because of the long flight and the boredom that pervades it, he said, I took out the copy of the Quran from my pocket when I felt its presence, then I opened it and turned the pages. My eyes fell on Surat Al-Kahf, so I read and then two verses stopped me, which are: The Almighty said:

(And you will see the sun, when it rises, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it sets, passing them by on the left, while they are in an open space thereof. That is from the signs of Allah. He whom Allah guides is the one who is guided, and he whom He sends astray - you will not find for him a protector to guide him. (17) And you would think them awake And while they are asleep, We turn them to the right and to the left, and their dog is stretching out his two forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked upon them, you would have turned from them in flight, and you would have been filled with terror from them. (18) Surah Al-Kahf

The doctor says that turning them over while they are asleep is understood so that their bodies do not get ulcers if they remain asleep in one position, but what surprised the doctor was his statement in the previous verse: And you will see the sun when it rises, deviating from their cave on the right, and when it sets, passing them by on the left, meaning that the sun enters the cave every day, but it does not come directly on their bodies, and he says that this is known in medical science, so in order to avoid bed sores, it must be The room is ventilated and the sun enters it without being directly on the body, then the doctor returned to think about the next verse where he says that in order to prevent ulcers, the sleeping person must be turned over so that the body does not ulcerate and rot and the earth eats it, but what surprised the doctor was that their dog did not turn over like them, but rather extended his arms in the bed in one position for 309 years and his body did not ulcerate or rot.

This matter prompted the German doctor to study the physiology of dogs and what surprised him was that he found that dogs are unique in having glands under their skin that secrete a substance that prevents skin ulceration as long as the dog's body is alive even if it does not turn over, and therefore their dog did not turn over like them in the cave.

This doctor converted to Islam because of this miraculous matter.

What surprised me was that the German doctor, from the first reading of the Surah, was stopped by miraculous matters and did not pass them by lightly as we do.

Allah Almighty has commanded us to contemplate the Qur'an.
(A blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they may ponder its verses and that those of understanding may be reminded.)

Question:
Why in Surah Yusuf did Allah say “the wife of Al-Aziz” using the word imra’at al-Aziz (the woman of Al-Aziz), and not “the spouse of Al-Aziz”?

Very interesting words…

Do you say about your wife:
“My woman”…?
Or “my wife”…?
Or “my companion”…?

The question:

What is the difference between woman (imra’ah), wife (zawjah), and companion (sahibah)?

The Answer

1. Woman (Imra’ah):
If there is a physical relationship between a man and a woman, but there is no intellectual harmony, agreement, or love, the female is referred to as “a woman” (imra’ah).

2. Wife (Zawjah):
If there is a physical relationship accompanied by harmony, intellectual compatibility, and affection, the female is referred to as “a wife” (zawjah).

Allah said:
•“The woman of Noah”
•“The woman of Lot”

He did not say the wife of Noah or the wife of Lot, because there was a difference in faith between them.

Both Noah and Lot were believing prophets, while their wives were not believers. Therefore, Allah referred to them as women, not wives.

Similarly, Allah said:
“The woman of Pharaoh.”

Pharaoh did not believe, but his wife believed in God. Since they differed in faith, she was described as “the woman of Pharaoh”, not his wife.

Now look at where the Qur’an uses the word “wife”.

Allah said regarding Adam:

“O Adam, dwell you and your wife in Paradise.”

And regarding Prophet Muhammad ﷺ:

“O Prophet, say to your wives…”

This indicates harmony and complete agreement between them.

But here is an interesting point:

Why did the Qur’an use the word “woman” when Prophet Zakariya spoke about his wife, even though there was harmony between them?

Allah says:

“And my woman was barren.”

The reason given is that there may have been a difficulty in their relationship due to the issue of having no children, and Zakariya was complaining of his concern to Allah.

Thus he referred to her as “my woman” rather than “my wife.”

But after Allah granted him a child, Yahya (John), the Qur’anic expression changed.

Allah said:

“So We responded to him and granted him Yahya, and We reformed for him his wife.”

Here Allah called her “wife” instead of “woman,” after the issue of infertility was resolved.

Allah also exposed the household of Abu Lahab, saying:

“And his woman, the carrier of firewood.”

This indicates that there was no harmony between them.

Companion (Sahibah)

The Qur’an uses the word “companion” (sahibah) when the intellectual and physical relationship between spouses is completely broken.

Therefore, many descriptions of the Day of Judgment use the word companion.

Allah says:

“On the Day when a man will flee from his brother,
and his mother and his father,
and his companion, and his children.”

Because the physical and emotional relationships will be severed due to the terrors of the Day of Judgment.

And to confirm this, Allah clearly says:

“How could He have a son when He has no companion?”

Why did He not say wife or woman?

Because Allah wanted to completely deny any physical or relational association whatsoever.

Glory be to Allah who revealed this miraculous Book.

Allah said in Surah Al-Isra (17:88):

“Say: If mankind and the jinn gathered together to produce the like of this Qur’an, they could not produce the like of it, even if they assisted one another.”
