not kidding sis, honestly, dont worry, lets see if ia Mawlana Yasin has something to say..
i dont keep anything with his translation after reading the book "A discussion of the errors of yususf ali" by the Majlisul Ulama of south africa. After reading it some years ago i made inquiries and was told yesc it has errors and the most authentic english translation "at that time" was the marmaduke pickthall one...could be there are others now

theres one story in the book which highlights his errors which for some reason never left me..ia will type it and email you

wa 'alaykumus salaam
Yes definitely. I logged in to post the title and author only to be beaten at it!

I hope you get it sis safah, the translation is done in such a way that the actual word for word translation (appears in bold) is expanded (these words appear in italics). This makes it easy for us to understand...specially good for young people

W-Salam,

I believe that Shah Abdul Aziz Muhadith Delvi (RA) translated the Qur'aan for the first time into Urdu and didn't write a commentary, please correct me if I am wrong?

Jazakullah Khairun

Qur'aan made easy is actually a Tafseer in addition to being a Translation and very good for beginners.

[quote="ummi taalib"]Assalaamu 'alaykum ww brother shining light Yes but quite detailed for beginners..specially Ma'aariful Qur'an

Maariful Qur'aan in English has been summarised for beginners.

Here is the commentary of the 30th Juz:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/36967531/Commentary-of-the-30th-part-of-the-Qur-aan-Maariful-Qur-aan

Here is the Tafseer of the whole Qur'aan in text:

http://www.classicalislamgroup.com/index.php?view=tafseer

Here is the Tafseer in scanned images:

I have been thinking about ohammed Habib Shakir for a while but I can't recall why I wouldn't read his Tafseer, when my old brain kicks in I will update the thread....

Asslamo Allaikum,

I remember now...: - )

There is some serious controversy about this translation of the Qur'aan as to who has done it.

Muhammad Habib Shakir (RA) was an Egyptian Scholar who wrote a treatise on the Qur’aan (in Arabic) entitled, “Al-Qawl al-Fasl fi Tarjamat al-Qur’an al-Karim” in which he basically propagates the idea that Qur’aan CANNOT be effectively translated into another language and in the end he concludes that it is NOT LAWFUL to translate the Qur’aan.

So who translated the Qur’aan in English?

It turns out that it is actually done by a person in the name of Mohammedali H Shakir (M H Shakir) who actually translated it into English in 1981 and the two names got confused.

Here is where the story gets interesting:

1)    Some say that Mohammedali H Shakir (M H Shakir) was actually a Pakistani who didn’t even know Arabic

2)    Some say that he was the son or Grand-son of Muhammad Habib Shakir (RA)

Then the Qadiyanees (Ahmadees) claim that the English translation whoever has done it is a DIRECT LIFT OFF (i.e. plagiarized) form of Maulan Moahmmed Ali’s translation who was a Lahori (Qadiyani).

Due to the rift between original Qadiyanees and Lahori (Qadiyanees) this issue is hotly debated…
I would like to add that I have never read “القول الفصل في ترجمة القرآن الكريم” so I don’t know what the original Muhammad Habib Shakir (RA) actually read in there…Its an issue which I looked into sometime ago that’s all.

I googled around and there are references for this book but I am unable to find a copy of it...

Who knows???
