Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (RA) is regarded as a great Scholar and Shaykh Abul-Hasan Ali Nadwi (RA) considers him a Mujaddid and devotes an entire volume in his great series "Saviours of the Islamic Spirit" to the great Imam.
Having said that many Ulama (including Shaykhul-Islam's contemporaries) disagreed with him on some of the finer points of Aqeedah and still continue to disagree with him. Shaykh (Mufti) Taqi Usmani (HA)'s writes in "Dars-e-Tirmidhi (his lessons on Tirmidhi)" that we do believe that Shaykhul-Islam (RA)'s views about the attributes of Allah (SWT)'s are not the Aqeedah of the Salaf however we don't believe that he is outside the fold of Ahlus-Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (RA) followed the Hanbali Fiqh (in principle) however in practise often did Ijtehaad and went against the Mutamid position in the Hanabli Madhab and in case of the issue of 3 Talaaqs (and some others)even against the consensus of the Muslim Ummah.
Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya (RA) was the illustrious student of Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (RA) who was also a Chemist and an Astronomer besides being a great Scholar. You will find that the writings of Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya (RA) are much softer, more beautiful and less confrontational. His famous books widely quoted and available are:
a) Madarijus-Salikeen (Stages of Salikeen)
b) Al-Fawaid (Collection of Wise Sayings)
c) Zad al-Ma'ad (Provisions of the Hereafter)
d) Al-Tibb al-Nabawiya (Prophet's Medicine)
When Salafees talk about Tassawuff they usually translate and present the works of Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya (RA) and Salafi sites are filled with the works/translations of Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyya (RA).
Both Scholars are regarded as major Scholars and from Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaah and may Allah (SWT) grant them Jannatul-Firdaus (Ameen).
