Asslamo Allaikum,

In the Hanafi Madhab there are valid differences of opinion but we should refer the matter to competent and trustworthy Ulama and let them prefer one opinion over another.

In Britain one of the great Hanafi Fuqaha is Shaykh (Maulana) Yaqoub Qasmi and may Allah (SWT) prolong his life and let us benefit from him.

The Shaykh (HA) goes through a lot of research and highlights all valid opinions.

The other hidden gem in UK is Shaykh (Maulana) Smaeerudeen Qasmi who has completed:

a) Four (4) volume commentary (Sharh) of Qudoori
b) Commentary of Nurul-Idah (being printed in India at the moment)
c) Six (6) volume commentary (Sharh) of Hidaya and six (6) more on the way

For the first time he has explained the various positions within the Madhab, brought evidence for it, serialised and indexed all Masail and converted all weights, measurements and distances into decimal format for easy calculations.

Such work hasn't been done in Arabic let alone in Urdu.

The other option is "Yorkshire Ulama Council" with Mufti Yusuf Sacha, Maulana Marghoob Ahmed, Maulana Mama and others and they meet monthly and again these Ulama highlight various opinions within the Madhab and deliberate over matters.

For English speaking students of Hanafi Fiqh the forthcoming commentary of Qudoori (Al-Lubaba) by Turath will suffice.

www.turath.co.uk/

Two more books to get in English (already) printed from Turath are:

a) The Muwatta of Imam Muhammad
b) The Kitab al-Athar of Imam Abu Hanifah

For normal English speaking Hanafees www.askimam.org/ is more then sufficient.

And on Aqeedah/Tawassull/Istigatha/Isti'ana issues:

deoband.org/

For English speaking laymen one of the best translations of the Qur'aan is

www.azharacademy.com/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=1040

And then moving onto Maariful-Qauraan:

www.classicalislamgroup.com/index.php?view=tafseer

Actually somewhere there is a set curriculum from Mufti Taqi Usmani (HA) on what to read and its good to look those up.

Assalamu Alaykum,

I did consider that and realised that there's not much if not any discussions or debates about people or groups except for the format of question followed by replies relating to the actual research on the group.

Second point was that with the group being open to memberships, it's still public but with extra steps to take.

Third point was that they cannot really intefere unless they're registered and request group membership and if found to be nuisance can easily be kicked out or even banned if required (Muadh_Khan has experience in the banning department so I'm sure he can confirm it's effective right?)

And final point to consider is that I can understand the restriction if the group was aimed at a particular group such as Ulamaa, teachers, Huffaaz, lawyers but as it's not, I looked at the benefit it can give to people unaware of usergroups, forums, memberships and also google can access it and index it for people to find it from search engines.

keeping all the above in mind, please let me know what you think. As it is a privately requested group, the final decision has to be yours. Either way, I understand both decisions and the reasons. Jazakallah

PS. There's still a month before you travel but inshaAllah the group will continue to provide.

AWW. I know this is shining light's decision but if i may i'd like to say that looking at bothe sides maybe it would work if a topic is made public after its been stamped..if this is a possibility it could work insha allah

Walaykum salam

Maulana Sahab, it really doesn't bother me about people interfering actually that would be good because people could see their ideas crumble in live action and we would still have what they had to say here as evidence. And Finally the last point of sister's above to be taken into consideration.I know i requested the group but i am just a stranger in the world and its all for Allah inshallah,.do what you think is better for the advancement of Islam and how the forum can be best utilized..

Jazakallah to all of you. I stayed away from Sunnipath after reading some of the answers on there. I am not a learned person, but when I see a barelwi, I know he is. This was the first time I had my doubts, therefore I stayed away from it. It is a Shame if this is the same Faraz Rabbani of sunnipath as there are some good teacher/scholars on there. Just for this reason alone I stay away from that site. SubhanAllah.

Seifeddine, it looks like I was right to doubt it.

Q. Dear respected Mufti Sahib.
i asked you about these Scholars(Shaykh Ahmad Ali,Hamzah Yusaf,Faraz Rabbani)that whether they are authentic or not. One respected Mufti of Madrassah In'aamiyyah answered:we are in the position to comment on these Scholars.

Mufti Sahib please help me , i am confused. I am not saying that they are unauthentic Schoalrs. but i have heard that before listening to anybody lectures, one should check that whether they are authentic or not.thats why i was asking you. I want lectures in English for mywebsite, so i was asking can i read their books and listen to their lectures or should avoid them? [I am deobandi Hanafi]

May Allah give you Jaza for that cause.please answer this time and remove my confusion.

Wassalam!

There are a few issues which need to be understood before adopting any scholar's literature for reading purposes. It is advised that one should be very cautious with the type of material one reads. At the same time, we should also understand that some Ulama are specialized in one firld while the others focus on another. This means that if some one is a vibrant and outspoken on the pulpit, it would not necessarily mean that such an Alim will also be well established in giving derees.
Having said that, on a scholarly level we may have few or many differences with those Ulama on your list, and we can only confirm those differences once we are provided with particulars in that area.
You may search and obtain talks by the following Scholars.
Mufti Taqi Uthmani Saheb Maddazillohu ( He also gives bayan in English at occasions)
Maulana Suleman Moola Saheb
Sheikh Zulfiqar Ahmed Saheb Maddazillohu
Maulana Mohammed Vanker Saheb
Also note that we are continuously putting Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb Maddazillohu's lectures and Majalis online. You may use those as well.

You may also use the fatawa from askimam on the Jamia Hafsa Forum.

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray this finds you all in the very best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you the best of this life and the next.

I just thought I'd clarify a few things:

(1) I left SunniPath in order to focus on a number of other projects, which are a more immediate priority--including the Razi Institute here in Toronto (Canada); an online answers service project with some scholars... and, yes, the SeekersMedia project, on the side.

(2) I am very much a murid of Shaykh Nuh Keller. I have found nothing but benefit, blessing, and increase in good through this association, and have no thought of ending it.

(3) I don't write or edit my Wikipedia entry, so omission of teacher names, biographical details, or inclusion of inaccuracies is not of my doing or promoting.

May Allah grant us sincerity in seeking His pleasure, above all else, and to serve the Umma of His Beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), and to spread the light of his guidance and teachings (peace and blessings be upon him), at transmitted by his noble companions, family, and inheritors (Allah be pleased with them all).

Mufti A.S Desai (hafidhahullh) replied to a question on this specific fatwa :

Respected Brother,

Your e-mail dated 12 August 2011 refers.

It is shirk to direct supplications (duas) to the dead. The fatwa
which you have mentioned is erroneous. The statement, "Ya Ali I
invoke thee.." is shirk.

It is necessary to refrain from the lectuires, etc. of this 'famous
Aalim". It appears that he is from among the people of bid'ah.

Attached is an explanation on Tawassul.

Was-salaam

A.S. Desai

For

Mujlisul Ulama of S.A.

On another occasion he says :

It matters not if the shaeikh is a Deobandi. It does not follow that
whatever a Deobandi Shaikh says is correct even if it conflicts with
the Shariah.

Feel free to circulate our reply. It is valid for you to inform others
that the shaikh's statement is in conflict with the Shariah and is
tantamount to shirk. Don't become embroiled in disputes with anyone.
Merely inform them, and leave them to make their own decision.

Mufti Ebrahim Desai (hafidhahullh) was asked :

Question
Some one told me to recite "Ya Ali Adrikini Fi Sabililah" for my problems. Can u Please tell me is it right to recite this? Please reply. Thank You.

Answer

In the name of Allāh, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalāmu ῾alaykum wa Rahmatullāhi Wabarakātuh

It is not permissible to call out to the dead for any kind of help or assistance.[1]
Such an act constitutes kufr and the implications of that are major. If a person is married his marriage terminates. He will have to make tawba and renew his Imaan and Nikah. If he does not do that, his relationship with his wife will be an adulterous one. If his "wife" conceives in that stage and gives birth, the child will be illegitimate.
