Never heard of him before you mentioned it..but this is a bit about him,Dont know if he is Ahal Assunnah wal jama'ath.

Jamaluddin Zarabozo was born in France to Spanish catholic parents. He grew up in California, and in 1976 he converted to Islam. He has a bachelors degree in economics from the university of California at Berkeley, and a masters in economics from the university of California at Davis. He left his PHD studies to pursue Islamic studies, since then he has been active mostly in writing.

He is "Athari" in Aqeedah and Hanbali in Fiqh. Nice guy though. What else do you need to know about him?

Asslamo Allaikum,

I have been categorically told my an American Maulana that he is "Hanbali" and a nice guy.

I knew that he isn't a Scholar in the tradional sense of the word but the following I had to google.

Shaykh Jamal Zarabazo taught himself Arabic and then studied under some Scholars who were graduates of Imam Saud university (Saudia) and then also had some interactions with Dr (Maulana) Mustafa Azmi who was a giant Scholar of Hadeeth and graduate of Darul-uloom Deoband while Maulana (RA) was studying at Colorado university.

Here is from my head again...

Shaykh Jamal Zarabazo translated Fiqhus-Sunnah in English so that tells you about his approach in "comparative Fiqh" therefore I would NOT recommend reading/listening to his Fiqh stuff to laymen (paryicularly Hanafees). Only people well grounded in their Madhab and rulings should seek to listen to him in that regard.

This is what we need to clarify about speakers in this group i.e. whether the speaker is totally "authentic" or not and how/where they acheived their knowledge....How is a layperson supposed to distinguish the correct / incorrect info while they are listening to someone or reading thier work? Only a person of knowledge can listen to a speaker or read an article and know how much was correct or otherwise. Nowadays ther is just too much "Islamic" material on the internet and we need to be careful.

In my humble and unqualified opinion a layperson SHOULD NOT listen to anyone who calls for "Fiqhul-Maqarin (Comparative Fiqh)"

Middle-East has been destroyed due to this "Fiqhul-Maqarin (Comparative Fiqh)" which is basically trying to choose the "Most Authentic opinion" out of the 4 Madhabs

A laymen "like me" should stick to his Madhab and Scholars of his Madhab.

Shaykh Jamal Zarabzo is "Hanbali" but he is a strong supporter of Fiqhul-Maqarin (Comparative Fiqh)

Agreed. All laypersons (the awwaam) should strictly only listen to or read known "authentic" scolars. On this group we should therefore bring up all authors/speakers we hear of (specially on the internet) and try to get reliable info...and may Allah guide and accept

EVEN the Salafees are realising the need to follow a Madhab and what damage this has done to Muslim Ummah.

I will shortly post something from a leading Shaf'ae Shcolar who posts on one of the most Authentic Salafi forums.

Read and ponder his words, very interesting.

Q) If you have, do you recommend it for English speaking Muslims who study comparative fiqh?

A) I do not recommend studying comparative Fiqh at all. There is no scholar ever recommend it because it is quite impossible unless one is well versed in one Madhab first then was able to learn the usool of the other 3 Madhabs, assuming one knows Arabic very well and all its sciences, memorised the ayaat of Ahkaam, the hadeeths of Ahkaam, Nasikh and Mansookh and etc. Because without these means one can never understand other madhabs or his own madhab. Unless you mean, to know the fatwa of each Madhab which is more complicated than as it seems. The Shafiee Madhab, we have three schools, the Maliki has two schools, the Hanafi has 2 schools as well. and the official position of each Madhab on each matter is faced with other valid views within the madhab itself.

I do not want to put anyone down but I would like those who would like to seek knowledge to know why they seek knowledge first and to study in the right way to benefit from what they learn.

Most whom I met in the west during my stay there were students of Nayl al-Awtaar and bidayat al-Mujtahid and al-Muhalla and though they think they had knowledge I can tell you they were more than ignorants and do not even understand religion no matter what they read.

So, my advice is: focus on learning one Madhab. Then after choosing which Madhab, focus on learning the topics that concern you as a Muslim and are obligatory upon you to learn, then expand from there and if you can get a Shaykh to advise you and supervise you that would be the best.

I will look at the website but inshallah we are soon to launch a website that is only dedicated to the Shafiee Fiqh and it will be similar to XXX inshallah.

P.S: In my opinion its MOST DEVASTATING for laymen to start dabbling in Qur'aan & Sunnah and start picking/choosing Authentic opinions and I am glad to see that even the Salafees are realising this...

Alhamdolillah brother this all due to Allah and the people who spoke out and made them aware of their mistake in not doing Taqleed..Allah Guides who He will,in the time of fitna's its compulsory to speak out otherwise people who know may fall under His Ahzaab.
