Invented Customs which have no place in Islam

Birthdays

CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS

It is not necessary that everything the West does is according to logic. The biggest proof that it is the invention of the west are the song words without which this function is not complete viz. 'Happy birthday to you.' No one says, 'Happy birthday celebration' or 'Happy Blessed birthday' or any other words of this kind. This disease of celebrating birthdays was never prevalent among Muslims before, but since Muslims started living alongside the non-Muslims, they have been influenced by them.

Birthdays are celebrated usually at the end of a year and not at the beginning of the year. For example, if one's birth date is on the 1st of January, then the birthday will be celebrated on the 1st of January and not the 2nd of January. Now just ponder, what intelligence is there in celebrating and showing happiness when a year has decreased in one's life. During a birthday celebration, candles are lit on a cake, amounting to the years of the one's life. He extinguishes these candles by blowing them out and all present clap their hands. Hands are clapped at two occasions only, one at the time of joy for some achievement of his. Secondly, when someone acts foolishly, then to mock at him. Here a person is extinguishing the rays of the years of his life by blowing them out himself. Then this is no happiness, nor is it any achievement. So the clapping of hands is only for mocking at this person's stupidity. Ponder that this is a custom and sign of non-believers. When it is someone's birthday, one year of his life has decreased, and not increased.

This world is a field to work for the hereafter. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu layhi Wasallam)'s Ummah has been sent in this world for a very great object. The example of this world is like a king who send a few people into his treasure room saying that shortly he will send them out, so at that time whatever they will be possessing will be their property. Inside the treasure room, on one side there are heaps of gold and silver, on another side are lying pearls and jewels, then at another place in the room, delicious food and soft beds are arranged. Now some people think that the king may send them out any minute. They quickly gather the gold, silver, pearls and gems. They feel they will go out from there and organise the food and beds for themselves afterwards. There is another group of people who think that they have just arrived. They feel, 'Let us enjoy the food, then lay down to rest. After that we will take from the treasures. There is ample time.' So they eat, sleep and pass their valuable time without taking from the treasures. Suddenly the king sends everyone out. Now those who had collected the valuables can enjoy their lives eating and sleeping while those that wasted their time and did not accumulate anything will begin to regret.

Every moment of this worldly life is very valuable. Here we have to earn for the long and everlasting life of the hereafter. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu layhi Wasallam) has said that after entering into Jannat, the people of Jannat will not be sorry about anything of this world, except for that moment which was spent without the remembrance of Allah. It is apparent that when reward will be granted for remembrance of Allah in this world which is an abode of actions, then one must surely feel very regretful, that if they should have spent more time in the remembrance of Allah, they could be worthy of more rewards.

Hafiz Zain Siqti asked Hafiz Jurjani the reason for swallowing dry flour to which he replied that when he compared the time of swallowing dry flour and chewing roti then, in chewing so much time is spent in which say 70 times Subhanalla can be uttered. Therefore he left eating roti for the last 40 years.

How can it be permissible to waste time by celebrating birthdays and becoming happy that a big slice of one's life is put behind. This world is a prison for the believer and a Jannat for the disbeliever. Allah has bought the life and wealth of the believers for Jannat. This life is a trust of Allah by us. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu layhi Wasallam) said, 'A person will not be able to move from his place, until he does not reply to five questions: How did you spend your life?

How did you spend your youth?

Where did you earn your wealth from?

Where did you spend your wealth?

How much did you act upon your knowledge?

A person who is concerned of replying to these questions, how can he show happiness upon the years of his life decreasing? Besides all this, Islam does not permit waste. This is the reason that the poor of this Ummat will enter Jannat 500 years before the wealthy, because the wealthy will be delayed by giving an account of their wealth. By spending on birthday parties, there is no benefit to Islam nor to the poor.

It is stated in a Hadith the worst Walima feast is the one in which the poor and destitute are left out and the wealthy are only invited. Another object of the birthday parties is show. Islam encourages simplicity. By this attitude of show, the poor feel inferior and deprived and the rich have a superiority complex. Also, in these gatherings, music, singing, video filming and the taking of photographs and other un-Islamic and forbidden acts take place. May Allah Taãla guide us and protect us from all these evils.

) Steadfastness upon the straight path is a sign of one's wisdom.

2) The Prophet's supplication to his Lord for steadfastness.

3) The need to supplicate for steadfastness in our time.

4) Ways which help one achieve steadfastness and protect from diversion.

First Khutbah

O Muslims! Steadfastness upon the right way, maintaining oneself upon the straight path and avoiding other paths which lead one astray, are indications of wisdom and good sense in a person. The highest rank of steadfastness is upholding oneself upon Islaam and protecting the heart from fluctuating.

For this reason, the fear of straying away from the right path was the main concern of the people of proper understanding and the way of those with sound minds and those firmly grounded in knowledge, those who desire for themselves means of access to their Lord, fear His punishment and hope for His mercy. Allaah mentioned in the Qur'aan how they supplicate and ask His help to remain steadfast and keep away from deviation as in the verse, which means, "It is He, Who has sent down to you the Book. In it are Verses that are entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book (verses including commandments and penal laws); and others not entirely clear. So as for those on whose hearts there is a deviation they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking trials and seeking its hidden meanings, but none knows its hidden meanings except Allaah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say, 'We believe in it, the whole of it is from our Lord'. And none receive admonition except men of understanding. (They say) Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us from Your Mercy. Truly, You are the Bestower" (Aal 'Imraan: 7-8).

Slaves of Allaah! This supplication which reflects humility and humbleness to Allaah, was the supplication of the best of creation, our Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam. Uttering this supplication is an indication of perfect imitation of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, as 'Um Salamah, may Allaah be pleased with her, said, 'The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam used to repeatedly say this supplication, "O Controller of the hearts! Make my heart steadfast upon Your religion" so I asked him, 'O Prophet of Allaah! Do hearts fluctuate?' He said, "Yes, all mankind's hearts are between two of the fingers of Allaah. If Allaah wills He maintains a man's steadfastness, and if He wills He deviates him" (Ahmad & Tirmithi).

Likewise, in the narration of aHHAnas, may Allaah be pleased with him, he said, 'The Prophet sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam used to repeatedly say, "O Controller of the hearts! Make my heart steadfast upon Your religion" so I said to him, 'O Prophet of Allaah! We believed in you and in what you came with; do you fear that we may deviate?' He said, "Yes, all mankind's hearts are between two of the fingers of Allaah. He changes them as He pleases" (Tirmithi & Ibn Maajah).

If the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, feared a change of heart of those who were the cream of Muslims, the pioneers of Islaam, the ones firmly grounded in faith, with strong certainty in Allaah and sincere servitude to Him and are the best of all generations, as the Prophet informed us; if this fear was regarding those people, then how would the case be concerning those who came after them, especially people in our era? This era during which trials are plentiful and successive; falsehood has spread everywhere under decorated banners; doubts and desires attacked people's hearts; misguiding temptations have attacked people through what they see, read and hear; and deviant ways have become strong and taken control over people's minds and hearts, such as the common sight of ladies who come out of their homes dressed but look as though they are naked.

In addition, a group of people have started slighting some of the commandments and tenets of Islam. The worst of this deviated trend is their doubting the Qur'aan and its perfection or some of its rulings, casting doubts regarding the message of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam and that it is not the final message or that it is not sufficient and useful for all times. They have even come to the point of doubting the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam himself, and how successful he was in his mission, his Sunnah and his conduct. These are a few examples of what some of the people of falsehood say or do, and there are many more.

Further, innovations have spread among other Muslims, and new practices, which are not a part of Islam, have been added to it. In some cases, their traditions and customs have been made a part of Islam, as well as acts of worship, which have no basis in our religion, have been invented, through which they hope to come closer to Allaah and gain His reward.

Consequently, differences and disputes have increased between Muslims until brotherhood in faith has become jeopardized, and in some cases blood has been unlawfully shed between Muslims based on doubts. By doing so, people abandon the commandment of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam when he said, "Verily, your blood, your properties, and your honor are sacred for each other, just as sacred for you as this day in this month and in this city until you meet your Lord. Have I conveyed the message?" the companions, may Allaah be pleased with them, replied, 'Indeed' He sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said, "O Allaah! Testify. Let those who are present inform those who are absent, because the person receiving the message might understand it better than the one who originally heard it. Do not become disbelievers after my death, and start killing each other" Ibn 'Abbaas, may Allaah be pleased with him, said, 'I swear by The One In Whose hands my soul is! His advice to his entire nation was, "do not become disbelievers after my death, and start killing each other" (Bukhaari).

The miserable situation of the Muslims of dispute and differences is pleasing to the enemies of Islam, who enjoy criticizing Islam. Through such situations, a Muslim fears the deviation of his heart, and his need for the help of Allaah to make him steadfast increases, and the greatness of the afore mentioned supplication of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam and the need for uttering it at all times, become evident.

There are ways by which a Muslim can be protected from deviation.

Truthfulness in faith, strong certainty in Allaah and sincerity in the belief in the Oneness of Allaah is one way. There can be no prosperity, salvation nor success except by fulfilling the belief in the oneness of Allaah by adhering to the Sunnah and shunning all that opposes it. Shunning what opposes the Sunnah means abandoning innovations, because each innovation is misguidance. The Prophet sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam clarified this in the narration of Al-'Irbaadh Ibn Saariyah, may Allaah be pleased with him, "He amongst you who would live after my death will see many things which he does not recognise, so adhere to my Sunnah and the way of the rightly guided caliphs after me, stick to it and bite on it with your molar teeth; and beware of innovations, because every innovation is misguidance" (Ahmad, Tirmithi and others).

Another means of protection from deviation is to hasten to persistently perform good deeds with sincerity to Allaah before trials take place. The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said, "Hasten in performing good deeds before the time comes when trials would be as dark as nights; a man would wake up a Muslim and go to sleep a disbeliever, and go to sleep as a Muslim and wake up a disbeliever" (Muslim).

Slaves of Allaah! Fear Allaah and take provisions from the way of the Prophet, because it is the best source for provisions, and ask Allaah to keep your hearts steadfast upon Islam and to help you in staying away from deviation.

Second Khutbah

Slaves of Allaah! Adhering to what pleases Allaah is one of the major causes for remaining steadfast and staying away from deviation. The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said to his cousin 'Abdullaah Ibn 'Abbaas, may Allaah be pleased with him, "O young boy! I wish to instruct you in some matters; be watchful of Allah, (i.e. the commandments of Allah) He will be watchful of you. Safeguard His rights, He will always be with you; if you must beg, beg of Him alone; if you need assistance, supplicate to Allah alone for assistance, and remember that if all the people jointly desire to benefit you with something, they will be unable to benefit you, except with that which Allah has preordained for you. And if all of them intend to do harm to you, they will not be able to afflict you with anything except that which Allah has predestined against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried" (Ahmad & Tirmithi).

Therefore, when a slave is watchful of Allaah and safeguards His rights, Allaah will be with the slave through his life until he dies upon the state of belief and Allaah grants him Paradise. So fear Allaah, and maintain all reasons of steadfastness and beware of what might deviate you. It is only when you do so that you will be succeed.

Mother's Day: The Islamic Perspective
Written by Islamic Times
Tuesday, 16 May 2006
With the passing of Mothers day in the UK recently. We decided to look at the Islamic perspective on how Muslims should treat this annual concept. The date of Mother's Day, and the way in which it is celebrated, differs from one country to another. In Norway it is celebrated on the second Sunday in February. In Argentina it is celebrated on the second Sunday in October. In Lebanon it is on the first day of spring.

In South Africa it is celebrated on the first Sunday in May. In France it is celebrated more as a family festival, on the last Sunday in May, when family members get together for dinner, and then they give a cake to the mother. In Japan this day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May, as in North America, where exhibitions are held of pictures drawn by children aged 6-14; these exhibitions are called "My Mother" This exhibition is moved every four years and has appeared in a number of countries.

How did it start in England?

In England the modern Mother's Day celebration, began as "Mothering Sunday" or (the Sunday half-way through Lent), because it occurred during their major fasting period (Lent). Some say that the celebrations that were held to worship and honour the Roman false goddess Sybil were changed by the church to celebrations meant to honour and venerate Mary (peace be upon her).

This custom began with some people encouraging people to visit the central church in their locality, bringing offerings. In the year 1600, young men and women of simple professions and servants started to visit their mothers on "Mothering Sunday", bringing gifts and food. Nowadays it is celebrated by non muslims on the last Sunday of March each year

The Islamic Perspective - Honouring the Mother

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "Worship Allaah and join none with Him (in worship); and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, Al-Masaakeen (the poor), the neighbour who is near of kin, the neighbour who is a stranger, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (you meet), and those (slaves) whom your right hands possess. Verily, Allaah does not like such as are proud and boastful" [al-Nisa' 4:36] And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him.

And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour" [al-Isra' 17:23] It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: "A man came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and said: 'O Messenger of Allaah, who among the people is most deserving of my good company?' He said, 'Your mother.' He asked, 'Then who?' He said, 'Your mother.' He asked, 'Then who?' He said, 'Your mother.' He asked, 'Then who?' He said, 'Then your father.'" (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5626; Muslim, 2548) Al- Haafiz ibn Hajar said: "Ibn Battaal said: what this means is that the mother should be honoured three times more than the father. He said, that is because of the difficulties of pregnancy, then giving birth, then breastfeeding.

These are hardships that are experienced only by the mother, then the father shares with her in raising the child. This is also referred to in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning): 'And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years' [Luqmaan 31:14] So the recommendation to be dutiful and good refers to both parents, but the mother's share is greater because of the three things mentioned above. Al-Qurtubi said: what is meant is that the mother deserves a greater share of her child's honour, and her rights take precedence over those of the father in cases where a choice must be made. 'Iyaad said: the majority of scholars were of the view that the mother takes precedence over the father in terms of honouring one's parents.

And it was said that both must be honoured equally, and this was narrated by some from Maalik, but the former view is the one which is correct." (Fath al-Baari, 10/402). Indeed, even if one's mother is a mushrikah (polytheist), the wise and pure sharee'ah of Islam encourages one to uphold ties of kinship with her: It was narrated that Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allaah be pleased with them both) said: "My mother came to visit me at the time of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and she was a mushrikah. I consulted the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), saying, 'My mother has come to visit me for some purpose, should I uphold ties of kinship with my mother?' He said, 'Yes, uphold ties of kinship with your mother.'" (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2477) It is extremely unfortunate that Muslims throughout the world have begun to adopt and practice western ideas and understanding when it comes to the quality of relationship between the mother and child.

For Muslims to begin to selfishly adopt a single day out of the whole year to express gratitude and show a materialistic form of affection. Islam has no need of things that are innovated by others, be it Mother's Day of anything else. Its teachings on the honouring of mothers mean that it has no need for an innovated Mother's Day. Standing Committee for Academic Research and Issuing Fatwas issued a statement: It is not permissible to celebrate the so-called Mother's Day and similar innovated festivals because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever innovates something in this matter of ours (Islam) that is not part of it will have it rejected." He (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not celebrate Mother's Day and neither did any of his companions (may Allaah be pleased with them) or the salaf (earliest generations) of this ummah. Rather it is an innovation (bid'ah) and imitation of the non Muslims.

"This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion" [al-Maa'idah 5:2] Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa'imah, 3/86 In light of this, Muslims should be aware that honouring and showing sincere affection and gratitude to the mother is a full time duty that should be practiced each and everyday of ones life, to merely set aside a single day and feel you have fulfilled their rights is a gross misconduct to the parents and the teachings of the Prophets (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). "And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents. Unto Me is the final destination" [Luqmaan 31:14] And Allaah knows best.

Who is Valentine's Day for?

By Khaled ibn Abdul-Rahman Al-Shayi'

People naturally like occasions of happiness and pleasure, whether private or public, including eids (feasts or days of celebration). For the sake of this inclination, the Shari'a came with the legitimacy of the Fitr and Adha Eids: Two valid eids in the year, and Allah has legislated in them (reasonable) spending and the showing of happiness which people need, in addition to a weekly eid which is Friday. And this is part of the mercy of Allah upon this nation of Mohammad (peace be upon him).
If we look at the celebrations that other nations have, we will find that they have quite a number of them: one for each national occasion and season, Mother's Day, Labor Day, a day for agriculture and so on, to the extent that there is barely a month without a specific eid. All this is from their innovation.

Allah the Exalted has said (interpretation of the meaning)
But the monasticism which they invented for themselves We did not prescribe for them
(Al-Hadid 57:27) and for this reason the dates of the occasions have changed through the years according to political and social desires, and they are accompanied with more rituals, habits and types of amusement than can be listed, according to the details in specialized books.

Among the strange eids in the world today are those of the pagans and the People of the Book (Jews and Christians), connected to their gods, rabbis and monks, such as the days of St. Michael, St. Andrew, St. Valentine, etc. These eids are accompanied with several acts including decorating homes, lighting candles, going to the church, buying certain types of candy, specific songs and so on.

After that it has become the habit of non-Muslim nations to celebrate birthdays in which people invite their friends, prepare special food, light candles according to the age of the person etc.. and some Muslims have imitated them in this innovation!
After this introduction to the eids of the nations, it is worth mentioning that a Muslim should be confident that the most complete guidance and the best legislation is that which the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon him) came with.

Allah the Exalted has said (interpretation of the meaning)
This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed my favor upon you and have chosen for you Islam as your religion
(Al-Maida 5:3).

All the eids that the other nations have are innovation and misguidance, in addition to their disbelief in Allah. Allah the Exalted has said (interpretation of the meaning)
If anyone desires a religion other than Islam never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good)
(Al-Imran 3:85)

Due to the importance of this subject and the attention it should be given - I mean what has come to Muslims from the eids of disbelievers and the occasions they relate to their religion - Islam has given the matter eloquent and specific care. Allah has described His believing servants as avoiding disbelievers in their eids:
Those who witness no falsehood
(Al-Furqan 25:72). Falsehood in this verse refers to the eids of the disbelievers. Allah has legislated for His believing servants eids that suffice them from copying those of others:
Abu Dawood, Nasa'i and others have authentically reported that Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to Madinah at a time in which people had two days in which they played. He told them: "Allah has replaced these two with what is better: the days of Fitr and Adha."
Hafiz Ibn Hajjar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "From this it is deduced that it is disliked to be happy during the pagans' eids and to imitate them."
In what follows we will consider an eid that some Muslims have imitated and taken from the disbelievers, namely Valentine's Day, which Christians have specified as the 14th of February, according to a certain creed that they have and which we will not go into the details of.

Normally we would not have considered this eid nor given it any attention, as it is one of the tens of eids that they have, but because some Muslims and Muslimahs have become affected by this, it has become necessary to inform our brothers and sisters who attempt to participate in this occasion with its specific 'rituals' and do not know that Valentine's Day is deeply rooted in the Christian creed. The latter - i.e., the Christians - differ on whether this is something they inherited or something inherited from the Romans, who had gods according to their desires: they appointed gods for love as they do with other gods for light, darkness, crops, rain, seas, rivers, and so on.

Some of the things observed by disbelievers during Valentine's Day include their clothes, gifts, greeting cards, red roses (they use red as a symbol for a certain obscene behavior). They also celebrate by writing phrases of love and passion on the cards that are exchanged between young men and women, purchasing red teddy bears with hearts and words of love on them which are sold at high prices as presents that symbolize love!

One of the things that has increased the spreading of these issues in some Muslim countries is what many forms of media (whether read or viewed) - and particularly satellite channels - do by advertising this behavior using various methods, to the extent that the matter is no longer evident to simple people who do not have sufficient educational sense to protect them from these twisted behaviors, and particularly male and female students in public and higher education.

According to what has been presented, we would like to confront our brothers and sisters - fellow Muslims - who participate in any of the types of celebrations mentioned, and we say:
Today those of you who celebrate Valentine's Day and similar do this for something within yourselves. But I think that with your instinct of the oneness of Allah, that if you knew the religious background of this celebration and what it bears of symbols of innovation, paganism, and demonstrating that there are other gods than Allah - may Allah be exalted from that - you would realize how grave your mistake is and the awfulness of the direction you have taken and how you have been effected.

Scholars have said that a Muslim should not accept any gift or food prepared for the sake of the disbelievers' eids. For this reason, it is incumbent upon fathers and mothers to pay attention of this in their children, and particularly if they see their daughters wearing red blouses, jackets or the like specifically on that day. Likewise, if children ask them to buy roses or greeting cards that are specific for that day, they should tell them the truth about this issue in a religious, educational and convincing manner.

We also greatly admonish those Muslims who sell symbols of disbelievers' celebrations, whether by importing or producing them. For example, those who sell and provide flowers specifically on that day, and owners of stores that sell toys and wrap gifts. These people are helping in the celebration of disbelievers' eids, and undoubtedly they are cooperating in vice and aggression and participating in the spreading of the beliefs of the disbelievers. However, may Allah be praised, they have a lot of other things to sell that are not used in the celebration of the disbelievers' eids.

Another thing we should mention here is that Muslims who carry the knowledge or work for the media should play their role in protecting Islamic thoughts from their media counterparts who contempt Islam and Muslims.

We would like to conclude our topic with the fatwa of the great scholar Sh. Mohammad ibn Saleh Al-Othaymeen (may Allah have mercy upon him). He was asked about celebrating and participating in Valentine's Day. His answer was:
"Celebrating Valentine's Day is not permitted because:
1. it is an innovated eid that has no basis in shari'a
2. it invites people to love and passion
3. it invites people's hearts to be busy with these insignificant issues that are against the path of the previous righteous people, may Allah be pleased with them.

So it is forbidden to perform any 'eid rituals' on this day - whether food, drinks, clothes, gifts, etc.
A Muslim should be proud of his/her religion, and should not by an imitator who follows every caller.
I ask Allah to protect Muslims from all temptations, both visible or hidden." [End of the shaikh's fatwa]
Thus it is evident "who Valentine's Day is for", as this day is not of the practices of Islam nor its guidance, but rather the result of the social and educational pitfalls of the disbelievers. Any Muslim who participates in celebrating this day does so because of whims within him/herself and because of personal defeat, inadequate educational sense, and weakness of Islamic protection in those whose own selves deceived them into imitating disbelievers and mimicking them in their unworthiness and misguidance.
May peace be upon our prophet Mohammad and his family and companions.

This topic and posts can go in the public sections. I don't think it requires research as Ulamaa verdicts and rulings are clear.

yes ok..my point of posting it here was if we understand the basic of these customs then we should understand about things like Eid Milad.

In Islam there are no

No Birthday celebrations for anyone.

No wedding Anniversaries

No Death Anniversaries

Mothers Day is Everyday

Fathers Day Is Everyday

No Gathering at the house of a deceased person, for eating food. (i.e. 3rd,10th 20th 30th 40th days after the death)

No Custom of Gyaarwi

No Khatam at Feasts

No Lighting Lamps or Candles for the Dead or at the Grave

No Vows or Offerings at the Grave of anyone

No Tawaf or Prostrations to any graves

and the list goes on.

APRIL FOOLS DAY
(from CII BROADCASTING)

It may be "cool"...but its an unislamic practise of another fool!

The Holy Quran says: "Truly Allah guides not one who transgresses and lies." [40:28]

"Curse of Allah upon those who lie." [3:61]

Origins and History of April Fool Day

There are differing opinions concerning how this day originated:

Some said it developed from the celebrations of spring at the equinox on March 21.
Some said that this innovation appeared in France in 1564 CE, after the introduction of a new calendar, when a person who had refused to accept the new calendar became the victim of some people who had subjected him to embarrassment and made fun of him, so he became a laughing-stock for others.
Some said that this innovation goes back to ancient times and the pagan celebrations connected to a specific date at the beginning of spring, so this is the remnant of pagan rituals. It was said that hunting in some countries was unsuccessful during the first days of the hunt in some countries. This was the origin of these lies which are made up on the first day of April.
The Europeans call "April Fool" le poisson d'avril (lit. "April fish"). The reason for this is that the sun moves from the zodiacal house of Pisces to the next house, or because the word poisson, which means fish, is a distortion of the word passion, which means suffering, so it is a symbol of the suffering endured by Jesus (peace be upon him), according to the claims of the Christians, and they claim that this happened in the first week of April.
Presently people call this day April Fools' Day, as it is known to the English. That is because of the lies that they tell so that those who hear them might believe them and thus become a victim for those who are making fun of him.

The first mention of April Fool in the English language was in a magazine known as Dreck Magazine. On the second day of April in 1698 CE, this magazine mentioned that a number of people were invited to come and watch the washing of black people in the Tower of London on the morning of the first day of April.

'Aasim ibn 'Abd-Allaah al-Qurawayti wrote that many of us celebrate what is known as April fool or, if it is translated literally, the "trick of April". But how much do we know of the bitter secret behind this day? According to his research Islam was flourishing in Spain and the Christians after careful study concluded that it was because of the taqwa[piety] of the Muslims that Islam was so successful. So they introduced the younger Muslim generation to wine and other intoxicants and made such evils freely and cheaply available.

This tactic on the part of the Christians produced results, and the faith of the Muslims began to weaken, especially among the young generation in Spain. The result of that was that the western Catholic Christians subdued the whole of Spain and put an end to the Muslim rule of that land which had lasted for more than eight hundred years. The last stronghold of the Muslims, in Grenada, fell on April 1st, hence they considered this to be the "trick of April."

From that year until the present, they celebrate this day and consider the Muslims to be fools. They do not regard only the army at Granada to be fools who were easily deceived, rather they apply that to the entire Muslim Ummah. It is ignorant of us to join in these celebrations, and when we imitate them blindly in implementing this evil idea, this is a kind of blind imitation which confirms the foolishness of some of us in following them. Once we know the reason for this celebration, how can we celebrate our defeat?

Let us make a promise to ourselves never to celebrate this day. We have to learn from the Spanish and adhere to the reality of Islam and never allow our faith to be weakened again.

It does not matter what the origins of April fool are. What matters more is knowing the ruling on lying on this day, which we are sure did not exist during the first and best generations of Islam. It did not come from the Muslims, but rather from their enemies.

The things that happen on April Fools' Day are many. Some people have been told that their child or spouse or someone who is dear to them has died, and unable to bear this shock, they have died. Some have been told that they are being laid off, or that there has been a fire or an accident in which their family has been killed, so they suffer paralysis or heart attacks, or similar diseases. There are the endless stories and incidents that we hear of, all of which are lies which are forbidden in Islam and unacceptable to common sense or honest chivalry.

We have seen how Islam forbids lying even in jest, and it forbids frightening a Muslim whether in seriousness or in jest, in words or in actions.

Abu Umamah Al-Bahili (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, " I guarantee a home in the middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even if its just for the sake of fun'' [Abu Dawud].

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah(RA) that the Messenger of Allah(peace be upon) said:"The signs of the hypocrite are three: when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is entrusted with something, he betrays that trust." (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 33; Muslim, 59)

Hazrat Wasilah[Allah be pleased with him] reported that the Messenger of Allah(peace be upon) said: "Do not display pleasure at your brothers misfortune."[Tirmizi]

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah[RA] said: "They said, 'O Messenger of Allaah, you joke with us.' He said, 'But I only speak the truth. " (narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1990)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever imitates a people is one of them." (narrated by Ahmad)

It was narrated by Mu'aawiyah ibn Haydah[ra] that he heard the Prophet (pbuh) say: 'Woe to the one who talks to make the people laugh and tells lies, woe to him, woe to him." (narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 235. He said: this is a hasan hadeeth. Also narrated by Abu Dawood, 4990).

It was narrated by Asmaa bint Yazeed[ra] that the Messenger of Allaah (pbuh) said: "It is not permissible to tell lies except in three (cases): when a man speaks to his wife in a way to please her; lying in war; and lying in order to reconcile between people." (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1939)

When our Muslim Ummah is being disgraced and humiliated by the Kuffaar from East to West, how is it possible for a believer with even a minute degree of Imaan[faith] to engage in this evil custom of April Fool's Day!

BE MY VALENTINE
Mufti Zubair Dudha
Islamic Tarbiyah Academy (Dewsbury)

Though there is already a valentine day post i felt this is very benefitial...

In The Story of Civilization, it says: In England, Saint Valentine's Day was to come at the end of winter. When that day came, according to them, the birds mated enthusiastically in the forests, and the young men would put flowers on the windowsills of the homes of the girls whom they loved. (The Story of Civilization by Will Durant, 15/23)

Among the most important symbols of this day:

1 - Expressing joy and happiness on this occasion, as on other major festivals.

2 - Exchanging red roses, which are an expression of love, the "spiritual love" of the pagans or the "love". Hence it is known to them as the Feast of Lovers.

3 - The sending of greetings cards. On some of these cards are pictures of "Cupid", who appears as a child with two wings, carrying a bow and arrows. This was the god of love of the pagan Romans - exalted be Allah far above their fabrications and their association of others with Him.

4 - Exchange of words of love and desire in the greetings cards which is sent to one another, in verse, prose and short phrases. Some of the cards contain comical pictures and funny words, and they often contain the phrase "be my Valentine". This represents the concept of this festival after it was taken from the pagan concept.

5 - In many western countries, parties are held during the day and in the evening, where there is mixing of men and women, and dancing. Many of them send gifts such as roses and boxes of chocolates to their wives, friends and those whom they love.

Anyone who looks at what is said about the myths surrounding this pagan festival will clearly understand the following:

Firstly: That its origins lie in the pagan beliefs of the Romans, where it was an expression of the spiritual love of the idols which they used to worship instead of Allah. Whoever celebrates it is celebrating an occasion of Shirk (Polytheism) on which the idols are venerated. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): "Verily, whosoever sets up partners (in worship) with Allah, then Allah has forbidden Paradise to him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zlimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers) there are no helpers" [al-M'idah 5:72]

Secondly: That the development of this festival among the Romans was connected to myths and legends which no sound mind can accept, let alone the mind of the Muslim who believes in Allah and His Messengers (peace be upon them). Can anyone of sound mind believe that a she-wolf suckled the founder of the city of Rome and gave him strength and wisdom? Moreover, these myths go against the belief ('Aqeedah) of the Muslim because the One Who bestows strength and wisdom is the Creator, may He be glorified and exalted, not the milk of a she-wolf! The same applies to the myth that their idols could protect them from evil or keep wolves away from their flocks.

Thirdly: Among the ugly rituals of the Romans on this day was the sacrifice of a dog and a goat, the daubing of their blood onto two youths then washing the blood off with milk, etc... This is something that would cause revulsion in anyone of a sound nature, and it is unacceptable to the sound mind.

Fourthly: The connection between Saint Valentine and this festival has been questioned by many sources, and it considered being far from definite. So how about us Muslims, who are commanded to be different from the pagans before them?

Fifthly: This festival was denounced by the Christian clergy in Italy, the bastion of Catholicism, because it was spreading bad attitudes and having an adverse effect on the minds of young men and women. So it is better for the Muslims to reject it, warn others against it and to fulfil their duty towards it of enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil.
