wa'alaykumus salaam
so would you be a "wahhabi" to your family and does it create divisions within the family?

I know many girls from this kind of background and they have to fight their parents and families on many such issues because they do not want to have anything to do with the bid'at practices.

May Allah guide us all on the straight path, aameen

Salam,

When it comes to "opposing" being their sole purpose, would you say my understanding that they even oppose on our news of Eid day?

I made my mind up on this when a few years ago (5 or 6 years ago) news came that it was not Eid on the 29th night. They announced (the other Masjid lot) that it was Eid tomorrow (as my friend follows them with family)

About an hour later, our areas were told that the moon had been sighted and that it will be Eid tomorrow. To my complete shock, my friend told me that they were not doing Eid and that they made a mistake.

Were they going by the moon or by us? Do you know if they oppose on these issues too or was it all just a coincidence?

Asslamo Allaikum,

Not only most of my family are Barelwees but because of our Ancestry they take this stuff very seriously and off course everybody who is not Barelwee is given a hard time BUT everybody 35 and under is now either a Deobandi or Tableeghi or Salafi, I don't know any relative youngsters (man or woman) who is still Barelwee.

All the elders are still Barelwee and they do their stuff and they can't argue so they just shut their kids up by just saying to have respect etc...

The major transformation occured in Universities in both Pakistan and overseas and NONE OF THE men or women who went to colleges/universities are Barelwees.

You will notice the same everywhere, professional people are either not Barelwees anymore or if they they are not as hardcore...

Yes they oppose the issue of moonsighting for the sake of opposing, no doubt about it, if we agree from today that we will follow Barelwees, they will switch to something else. There are communities in US who have tried to be together with Barelwees in Ramadhan and Eid and have even prayed behind them but it doesn't work after the first or second time...

During the Nifaz-e-Shariat Tehreek (of 1977) Ulama of Pakistan united and asked for Shariah and in the largest rally of Karachi, Maulana Noorani (RA) refused to pray behind Wahabees and all Ulama (Deobandi, Salafi & Ahle-eHadeeth) unanimously got on the stage and agreed to pray behind Maulana Noorani (RA)...Since that spectacularly backfired in the next rally Barelwees broke away on another point...

Their whole existence depends upon opposition and they need to define themselves by opposition.

Barelwees are on the left and Madkhalees (extreme Salafees) on the right are the same way, they need to constantky refine themselves on grounds of opposition.

The other issue with Barelwees is that they have NO POSITIVE input to the Muslim Ummah.

1) British took over India and subjugated Muslims, everybody except Barelwees resisted them

2) British destoryed Khilafa (Ottoman Empire) everybody except Barelwees resisted them, even Mahatma Gandhi supported Muslims on this YET apart from one or two there was NEVER any political uprising or struggle amongst Barelwees on the single most devastating incident to hit the Muslim Ummah,

3) India took over Kashmir in 1948, everybody except Barelwees resisted them

4) India attacked Pakistan in 1965, everybody except Barelwees resisted them

5) Russian attacked Afghanistan in 1979, everybody except Barelwees resisted them

6) Musharraf supported US in theri invasion of Afghanistan, everybody except Barelwees resisted them, Barelwee Scholars were the only ones who gave Fatwa of Support to Musharraf

There isn't a SINGLE ISLAMIC REVIVAL (i.e. Jihad, Hijrah or Khilafah) movement amongst the Barelwees at all.

The only significant on-record Barelwee political Fatwaas are:

a) Support of British Empire

b) Support of Musharaff

Almost forgot...

In 1857 Muslims made the last stance against British empire and people died in their thousands. No significant Barelwees either participated or become Shaheed in this...

Asslamo Allaikum Aapa,

You are kidding, right?

Majority of Kachi & Kathiwari Gujratees are Barelwees and SERIOUS Barelwees, in some areas they think that if a Wahabi comes in their Masjid, Masjid gets Naapaak and they used to wash the Masjid...

Most Gujratees in UK are Surati & Baruchi, they are I accept mostly Deobandees.

Same in areas of Pakistan...

Majority of Gujratees who migrate to Pakistan from India are also Barelwees.

They're not Alims in the classical terms. I prefer to refer to them as doctors, scientists or simply "salafi preachers" - an Alim is much more (personal opinion from understanding and living examples)

surprised to hear this but i have to admit i never even heard about this group till recent years! least we can do is to try and give da'wah when we can and use the greatest weapon of all, that of Du'a...for all of us, quite scary to think that unless Allah subhaanahu wata'ala guides, anyone of us could be misguided and no matter the Ulamae Haqq said we wouldn't listen! We beg His refuge

Ya Allah (Oh my God) No way. Barelwis not in india nor amongst the Gujarati. That is the funniest thing I ever read. I'm also from a Barelwe family but alHumdullilah I was born here and went to a deobandi mosque, I never realy saw there practices until I went to see my family in India (grand parents).

I had my first ever debate in 1990 with a Barelwi Scholar who had a PHD in Islam and arabic. He spoke so much garbage, i could not believe my ears. at the time I was only about 15 years old. I had no knowledge to argue with him, but I was able to prove him wrong on every aspect he spoke about. alHumdulillah I was able to convince my grand dad that if you think saying Oh Jesus is haram then why does your Imam tell every one to say Ya Muhammad in the time of difficulty. If a hindu was to walk pass you and he heard you, he would think that there is no difference between the Christians nad Muslims. My Grand father was so impressed with the rest of my comments, that he would laugh at his Imam. When I went back to India 5 years later, I heard that the Imam had done a runner.

By the Way Dr. Tahir ul Padri is one of the Barelwees biggest Imams who had a dream that The Prophet (SAW) came to him and told him start his group.

Dont get me started on the Barelwees. The posts I have done with regards to the Salafis would look like dust in comparison to what I could say about the Barelwees.

In my Family, all those born here in the UK are alHumdullilah not Barelwee. Infact we take the utmost mickey out of them one cant imagine. We debate with our families with such ease it is unbelievable. Even my parents are no longer fully Barelwee, thy take from both sides and reject all that is Biddah and Shirk.

To all those who are from Barelwee background and have people calling names, have patience, InshaAllah, the truth will prevail and the barelwees fail.

The amont of common sense used to debate with them is amazing. I defeated an Alim at the age of 15 with no knowledge.

I can go on about the Barelwees for ever and ever, more than the salafees and shias put together.

Another major problem with them is their BAWA's. They become Mureeds of these jokers and then give up every thing for them.

This is Barelwees in a nut shell: http://www.muftisays.com/blog/abu+mohammed/578_18-11-2010/who%27s-been-fooled.html

They are the biggest farce amongst the Muslims, Hindus, Shias and Hanafees. It is because of them that the real Hanafi have been tarnished. They make me more sick than the Salafi.

No offence to any one, I am speaking of real life experiances.

I havent been to India since 1995, but I also have family in Pakistan, again, in just 3 visits there I have been able to prove them wrong and even change their Aqeedah. alHumdulillah what a difference a little advice does. Hikmah is the golden tool. Prove something stupid to be stupid in a nice way then show why their Aqeedah is dodgy. Easy does it.

I will be going back to Pakistan in a few months time and already they want me to knock some more sense into others.

Turkey has a huge number too.

They mostly come from the refai clan (from the Prophets(SAW) family) in Baghdad. They have a mjor following in Baroda, India and Turkey. They associate themselves with the Naqshabandi, Chistiya and other Sufi groups too. Just like the way they associate themselves with the Hanafi. again it is because of them that these Sufi groups have been given a bad name, many dont want to associate themselves to any Sufi school.

Barelwees or Bewees as I like to call them, are all over the world just like the Qadyanis.

India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Morroco, Iraq, Persia, Sudan, Egypt, Syria, UK, USA, France, etc etc...
