I'm trying to find a hilarious talk by Yusuf Estes but I can't find it, it would really make you chuckle.

Note that even though a person may be Salafi, we can still benefit from them, but just be aware of what they say. If you do not have enough understanding already, then it is probably better to stay away. Otherwise, they too can make some really good points.

I think Ulama would not agree with this point... "effect of company" would apply. Even if a speaker/writer was Muslim and their views were unacceptable or deviant it would be advisable to refrain from listening/reading their work. This is the understanding i have

I'd have to disagree here, my teachers have always told us to take the good from their work and leave the rest.

It is of utmost importance that we refrain because if we are not knowledgeable (i.e. i mean real knowledge as in an 'aalim or 'aalimah) we would not be able to differentiate the correct/incorrect info. Besides, alhamdulillah, we have countless Ulamae Haqq who we can benefit from and we should hold on to them firmly because we are holding on the true Qur'an and Sunnah.

Ulamaa advise is the same as above. I think both arguments above are pretty much the same and have the same outcome. The teacher who said benefit can be taken was refering to benefit for Ulamaa to take who can easily tell where something wrong might be said.

As for the common public, it is actually quite important that they refrain from listening to Salafi speeches etc. If the topic is something outside of beliefs of sects then maybe it can be heard upon approval otherwise I have heard talks where the topic is nothing to do with their beliefs but they still hint and guide people towards their beliefs with little hints. Zakir Naik seems to do that.

Besides, the above post lays it out simply, there are already enough legit Ulamaa-e-Haq who benefit can be taken from. Why look for gold when we have diamonds?

That's what I said - generally a person should stay away if they do not have enough knowledge of the different views but if they do, they can still take the good from these people. I know of Ulama who read a lot of some other groups works and encourage it, but that is only if you think you can handle that, otherwise as you said above, stay away from it as much as you can. It's like the example of Ibn Qayyim rahimahullah, he has some excellent wise words which our scholars quote often but there are some aspects that he had views which we do not take.

Because of the traditional pious fear of distorting the Law of Islam, the overwhelming majority of the great scholars of the past - certainly well over ninety-nine percent of them - have adhered loyally to a Madhab. It is true that a handful of dissenters appeared, such as Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim; but even these individuals never recommended that semi-educated Muslims should attempt ijtihad without expert help. The position of the majority of this Umma's scholars, both past and present, with regards to Imam Ibn Taymiyya (Allah have mercy on him) is that they respect him as a scholar and acknowledge his works, but disagree with certain views of his wherein he chose to go against the mainstream understanding of the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah Wa al-jama'ah. This viewpoint is held by most of the contemporary scholars, both from the Indian Subcontinent and the Arab and Muslim world.

Shaykh Taqi Usmani (may Allah preserve him) has also mentioned a similar stance with regards to Imam Ibn Taymiyya. He states:
"As far as the opinions of Allama Ibn Hazm, Allama Ibn Taymiyya and Allama Ibn al-Qayyim are concerned, with due respect to their lofty status and rank, they have chosen certain positions that go against the mainstream scholars of this Ummah..." (Fiqhi Maqalat, 2/21)

There is a difference Ibn Qayyim and the Salafi's of today,We acknowledge his accomplishments and benefit from his works that are in accordance with the mainstream Ahl al-Sunnah Wa al-Jama'ah and Sunni Islam, and reject that which is not in accordance with the majority of this Umma's scholars. We respect him as a scholar, hence avoid condemning him totally, but we do not consider him to be an authority in matters of faith, Creed and jurisprudence. We leave his controversial views and opinions in tenets of faith to Allah Most High and concentrate on that which we need to learn and know of. This is the fair and balanced approach maintained by the majority of the scholars concerning controversial personalities.

The founder of the Wahhabi movement, Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, studied the works of Imam Ibn Taymiyya in depth and became more extreme. He put Ibn Taymiyya's views into practice rather than keep them in theory. Thus, they (Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab and his followers) destroyed many graves of the Companions (Sahaba) and extended the meaning of innovation in a manner that was not heard of before..." (Tarikh al-Madhahib al-Islamiyya, P: 199)

Allama Ibn Abidin (Allah have mercy on him) clearly refuted Muhammad ibn Abd al- Wahhab. Allama Ibn Abidin states:
"...As it has occurred in our times with the followers of Abd al-Wahhab al-Najdi, who appeared from Najd and imposed their control over the two sacred Harams. They used to attribute themselves to the Hanbali School but they believed that only they were Muslims and that who ever opposed their beliefs were polytheists (mushrik), thus they considered the killing of those who were from the Ahl al-Sunnah and their scholars to be legitimate, until Allah Most High destroyed their might and power." (Radd al-Muhtar, 3/339-340, chapter regarding the followers of Abd al-Wahhab, the Khawarij of our times)

W-Salam Sister in Islam,

Do you know about anything "Khalid Yaseen" ? And do you know why he has moved from his NYC?

Google and read "The Khalid Yasin Scandal: The Fall of the Criminal Imams". Most of the stuff is absolutely true and can be verified. Ask most Muslims from US and they will tell you all about him.
