Being a sufi is fine as long as its with the correct silsilah..never heard of the Shadhili Tariqa which Shaykh Nuh Keller belongs to. Wouldn't mind knowing more about it.

Q. should we cautious in reading up material on his website due to the following in Mufti Desai's answer?

"as some of the beliefs propounded by the students of Shaikh Nuh are taken by our Ulama to be those of the Ahle Bidah"

Yes sister..mashallah he has a good database of answers on his website..just wonder how many answers there are there. I asked something once but the question never got through..it kept saying too busy try again later..there's nothing wrong with Tasawuf ..whichever statement of the Salaf you come across, in criticism of Tasawwuf, then remember that this was said in the context of the Tasawwuf which is against the Qur'aan and Sunnah, not regarding true Tasawwuf.Tasawwuf is like a method of disciplining the internal injunctions and regulations pertaining to things

such as praiseworthy qualities, e.g. gratefulness, patience, sincerity etc.

and reprehensible qualities, e.g. pride, ostentation and greed etc. ,

Mufti Ebrahim Desai ,i dont use his site to ask him questions.i use my email and he replies via email.

As for nuh keller,well i have read a few articles written by him,and i had my doubts regarding him..
and sister ummi,you know the saying if you doubt something best to leave it,so that's what i did. but Allah knows best.

Sister in islam, perhaps you would like to check out a post; "on tasawwuf" on ummi taalib's blog. Insha allah will help to know that the tasawwuf taught by our Mashaikh is nothing extraordinary and those refuting it are incorrect.

Q. does it mean that despite reply of Mufti Desai, the subject of Shaykh Nuh Keller and Hamza Yusuf is closed as "doubtful"?

This is starting to make me feel a bit uncomfortable (like we are being judge and jury about these people), perhaps we should wait for Mawlana Yasin's opinion.

mashallah! didn't know brother Yasin was a Maulana?..yes off course but he must be busy..we have a Mufti's fatwa plus the doubts and i moderate here so i don't think we will miss too much..better for us to stick to whats clear than murky.

Salam,

Apologies for delay. I agree, while the purpose of this group remains to research such Ulamaa, if a clear verdict is already available from a renowned scholar then we need no more. Otherwise I am absolutely delighted with the efforts of this group and feel happy to be a part of it. We should know about the so called Ulamaa if they are not really Ulamaa but are just doctors of a certain field. There really is a huge difference. Keep up the good work here and don't hesitate. If anything is inappropriate, inshaAllah the group admin (shining light) will stop it and if he misses it, I will also keep a look out.
