Salaams to all.

I gather this nasheed is halal as it only uses the tambourine instrument.

Use of tambourines is not permissible, according to my limited information.

Source: Very comprehensive fatwa on music by Mufti Ismail Moosa (Hafizahu-llaah). It deserves a separate thread, I believe.

Salaams brother.

Are you sure? I've come across narrations which, suggest it is permissible.

Narrated Urwa on the authority of Aisha

"On the days of Mina, (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah) Abu Bakr came to her while two young girls were beating the tambourine (daff) and the Prophet was lying covered with his clothes. Abu Bakr scolded them. The Prophet uncovered his face and said to Abu Bakr, "Leave them, for these days are the days of 'Id and the days of Mina."

[Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol.2 Hadith No.987]

Narrated Ar Rabi (the daughter of Muawwidh bin Afra):

"After the consummation of my marriage, the Prophet came and sat on my bed as far from me as you are sitting now, and our little girls started beating the tambourines (daff) and reciting elegiac verses mourning my father, who had been killed in the battle of Badr. One of them said, 'Among us is a Prophet who knows what will happen tomorrow.' On that the Prophet said, 'Leave this (saying) and keep on saying the verses which you had been saying before.' [Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol.7 Hadith No.5147]

I could be wrong about the instruments used in this nasheed though, I'm not too familiar with musical instruments.

wa `Alaykumus Salaam brother,

I suggest reading the document. I haven't read it in its entirety yet, but it is quite beneficial.

It seems that the `Ulamaa' of AskImam concur with Mufti Ismail Moosa (which makes sense, since Mufti Sahib was a senior student of Mufti Ebrahim Desai (Hafizahuma-llaah). More on Mufti Ismail Moosa here). The fatwa by AskImam in its entirety is here.

>> "It is a well-known fact that the beating of the duffs nowadays resemble musical instruments. As such, the beating of the duff with the recitation of the burda is not permissible."

I did not click on the nasheed; I assumed that tambourines are used since you wrote that in your post.

Jazaaka-llaahu khayran,

Was-salaam

I haven't read the article or heard the nasheed either (yet) but what I can say is that even that which is permitted, if it is used and the beats are in a rhythm, then it is not permitted. A random sound of a duff is ok, but to have it in a way where a rhythm is generated, that's when it's not allowed. Allahu alum.

A better question to ask instead of making judgement calls on one Nasheed is to evaluate the Singer:

  1. What is his Aqeedah?
  2. What is his stance on Music?
  3. Whom does he co-operate with?

If he uses Music and co-operates with those who uses Music then he is involved in Fisq (by consensus) and we should NOT listen to such a person unless and until he does Taubah. We live in times of Dajjal so deception is common place i.e. a person will sing (with Music) do Nasheed with Sisters and in Ramadhan come on Islam Channel and make dua and everybody will present his (one action) as permissable.

I don't know about this brother at all so can't comment but you you need to look at the case in its entirety.

Too many people deceiving the Ummah in our times with using Music, women etc and then not using it on certain occasions!

Salaams,

Fair point akhi, but that sort of information is tough to ascertain when you don't know the singer and information from the Internet is not always easy to authenticate.

Nazeel Azaami, the performer or the singer from what I know is Bengali Muslim and he's done Haj. That's it, all I know from other people. Allah knows best. I'll be conferring to the scholars on this matter this week, Insh'Allah.

His twitter and Facebook Account has enough information without even using Google...

Secondly, his singing/voice isn't that good.

Thirdly better not say that :P

Inna lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raaji'oon.....

22 seconds had passed and I had the feeling of deja vu (mazar, qawali, decorated grave, marijuana......).
