I watched last five minutes.
Good stuff.
Summary there are three branches : Education (Iqra), Dawah and Tazkiya (Tasawwuf).
Some people focus on one of them to the exclusion of others.
Some of the Dawah people indulge in Dawah and exclude other two branches and so on.
Our approach should be inclusive.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

My contention is that there is the fourth branch also.
Tabligh.
They too are guilty of the same attitude.

More seriously all four are guilty of ignoring the worldly issues.
If you ignore worldly issues then people will encroach upon your space.

We must pay, as an Ummah, due attention to the worldly issues too.
Social, cultural, scientific, technological, industry, business, commerce, trade, economy, politics, our value system cis-a-vis our environment, our security.

In all four branches mentioned above no one is taking the issues I have listed seriously.

i agree

excerpt from the famous speech of 1982 in dewsbury markaz by molana hasan ali nadwi saheb r.a.

. However, if you decide to live in an enclosed environment, content with your prayers and fasting, apathetic to the people and society you live in, never introducing them to the high Islamic values, and your own personal qualities, then beware, if any religious or sectarian violence flares up – you will not find safety.

However if you remain preoccupied in eating, working and engaged in prayers, indifferent to what is happening in the country, insulated within Muslims, totally apathetic to what is happening outside, unaware of which direction the country is taking – in such a situation if there is any trouble you will not be able to save yourselves.

Reminding a person of the religious beliefs can encourage them to be less hostile in the face of threats that heighten aggressive tendencies, a new study has revealed.

According to research by York University, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, this trend is apparent among people of different faiths, from Hindus and Muslims to Jews and Christians.

Ian McGregor, a psychology professor at the institution, suggested this is because people tend to associate their religious beliefs with ideas such as forgiveness and forbearance.

"They turn to them when the chips are down, in threatening circumstances," he commented.

Professor McGregor said the research showed that even brief reminders of their faith that are "not accompanied by any explicit beliefs or injunctions tend to promote more magnanimous, less hostile choices in threatening circumstances".

The study added that while news providers tend to focus on atrocities committed in the name of religion, such as terrorist attacks, it appears as if faith has a more positive effect on people than the media often suggests.

www.sunniforum.com/forum/showthread.php?17372-A-Great-And...

Therefore, in this country if you wish to live peacefully and have an opportunity to present Islam to the host community, you will need to inculcate and manifest sterling qualities, not just inside the Mosques but also outside in the streets,
in the markets, in your daily activities, and at home.
If you do not lead an upright life, if you continue to live an insular lifestyle, and if you fail to manifest the beauty of Islam to non-Muslims, then you face some real dangers.
You should earn your place and leave an imprint on the host community of your value and significance.
You must show your exemplary conduct is far nobler than that of other people.
You must impart on them the lessons of humanity.
You should demonstrate such commitment and noble virtues that impress on people that there cannot be found more upright humans elsewhere besides you.

You need to establish your worth, showing what blessing and mercy you are for the country.

This is a tricky situation. People who are pious, they are less serious about technology. Technocrats and the elite are less serious about deen. They say "you are backwardness is due to attachment towards age of camels"

Only option left; bring deen in people with technology. But it is almost impossible.

Whoever brings deen in technocrats and elites, I shall salute him.

Ex-president of India Abdul Kalam had those qualities. But deen? His qualities were attributed to being a less practicing muslim.

In India when a muslim behavior is as per qualities mentioned by br @bhai, non muslims say "he should not have been born as a muslim". Means these qualities won't exist in a muslim.

because on the whole all we have shown ,with exceptions of course,is that

muslims pray in the mosque
they go to hajj
wear different clothes
eat different food

thats about it

so when a muslim behaves holistically and as a citizen and well rounded and balanced human its an enigma and causes confusion
whereas it should be the norm

iqra is mentioned many times in the excellent talk

knowledge/spirituality/dawah and religious actions are the beginnings of an active life

the majority of a muslims active life is in benefitting the greater society.
