England Hit By Biggest Quake In 25 Years

An earthquake registering over 5 on the Richter Scale has been felt across England and Wales in the early hours of this morning.

Epicentre 15 miles north of Lincoln

Theepicentre of the shallow tremor was recorded approximately five mileseast of Market Rasen, Lincolnshire and 14 miles south west of Grimsby.

TheBritish Geological Survey have registered the tremor, timed at 12:56am,at 5.2 on the Richter Scale making it the largest shake for a quarterof a century.

The Survey confirmed a second, smaller earthquake had been recorded at 2:46am.

The nearby aftershock measured 1.8 on the Richter Scale.

Reports of homes and offices shaking in the initial shock were received from North Yorkshire to Somerset.

Viewersin Rugby, Oldham, London, Windsor, West Yorkshire, Blackpool andSouthampton have all recorded being awoken by the tremor.

A man from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, was taken to hospital after a chimney collapsed and fell through his bedroom roof.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Ambulance Service said the mansuffered injuries to his pelvis and was taken to Barnsley DistrictHospital.

Earlier, viewer Sylvia Tidy-Harris from Ellistown, Leicestershire described the experience as a "real boneshaker".

She told Sky News: "It was like a big juggernaut was coming down the road. It was very loud and the whole house shook."

Mel Garratt from south Lincolnshire said the tremor lasted from five to 10 seconds.

SkyNews correspondent Lisa Dowd said the tremor was similar to asubstantial earthqauke in 2002, which had the town of Dudley as itsepicentre.

That tremor recorded the largest shake in the UK for over a decade.

nah your not, alot of people at my work place slept through it too! i felt it though my bed shook twice first time i thgouht i was imagining things buit the second time i thought nah can be so i went to my dad like a dopey and go hey dad was that an earthquake?

Well were quite down south and i felt it quite bad! but i suppose thats because i was on the third floor! and londons a bit further up. :S but alot of people didnt feel it.

I agree with queenie, ulhumdulilah, im far up north, so i didnt feel it, but my friends did, and they said it was very scary, all i could say is, do shukr that nothing worse than that happened, although it was very bad, if allah so wished it could have been worse. Like Queenie said, it could be the start to alot worse to come, we should ask allah for forgivness by salah taubah and also read salah shukr that it was not too bad and that we are safe.

From this we can see the reason why the earth quake happened and also......

it is said that when small scale earthquakes start to take place then in the near future there will be a bigger earthquake, 2/3 years ago there was also a small tremour in leicester.....so....this means that something big is waiting for us in the near future.
