It's still a wake up call for those who had no idea about the topic. Regardless of pig or human use.

Us discussing it helps us to gain further knowledge into the situation that can affect a minority of people.

Better to understand with additional details as shared by the experts here, Alhumdulillah.

Similar to the pig skin topic. Many were oblivious of this and now they are much clearer and better informed.

The input so far is much appreciated, even from me, who hasn't been to a dentist for years and years and have no real plan in visiting even after having shattered 2 of my teeth.

The pain was intense and unbearable, but now, makes no difference. No pain الحمدلله

To be honest I don't know as I have never used it in my practice. Will need the opinion of implantologists to know whether it's superior, inferior or gives the same results as the conventional membranes sourced from animals. Will definitely ask around and if available in Pakistan would like to give it a try.

Can only blame bad parenting to start with and then myself once grown up - didn't really need to make use of a dentist as such. Been brushing my teeth and using miswak for years. Didn't realy have tooth issues.

When I did visit the dentist, as mentioned on this forum a few years back, they damaged my tooth and made it worse and then charged me a fee for it. Few more years later, had an X-ray done. Needed to get treated as the pain was very severe. Then the pain stopped, didn't get a root canal or bridge or crown or whatever they asked me to do. Been fine ever since, inshaAllah. Alhumdulillah.

But, yes, the option of going to a dentist will always be open :)

Based on your life experience, please let me have your thoughts.

Point 1:

Despite best efforts and best intentions, humans are flawed and humans make mistakes. Behind every Mufti, every Doctor, every Bus driver is a human and their humanity will cause them to make mistakes.

When it comes to religion of Islam and the nation of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.), we have a special gift

Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah has overlooked for my nation their honest mistakes, forgetfulness, and what they are forced into doing.” Sunan Ibn Mājah 2045

So the errors, mistakes, forgetfulness and coercion of nation of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) is forgiven and there is no sin for it.

Point 2:

No Doctor, No Dentist in the West will perform surgery on the patient without explaining the details of the procedure and obtaining consent, it is simply not possible.

Point 3:

No treatment in the West is possible without consent for a conscious patient and for an unconscious or incapacitated with patient clear directions or prior refusal of care.

Point 4:

All practicing Muslims in the West live their lives while trying their best to avoid Haram. In weekly shopping, if you read a list of ingredients and it is suspected that it has ingredients sourced from an animal then you put it back and don't buy it. If its not important, you don't care and get a product which does not have ingredients which are sourced from animals.

If it is important, you try to research the source of the ingredient.

Its a lived experience of millions of Muslims across the West.

Question?

If you do not disagree with any of this then why is this information earth shattering news? This isn't a leather jacket or shoes, its a surgical procedure! Any surgical procedures or putting anything inside the human body requires dozens of discussions and forms to be signed etc.

Pivoting to another topic.

UK Government never had public COVID-19 vaccine for general population. The facts were given to the people and based on situation and circumstances, they can choose to be vaccinated or not.

Vaccine mandate was put in place for frontline care and health workers and a person could:

  • Request to be deployed to non-frontline care
  • Ask for unpaid leave

Since you were born and grown up in the west, why doesn't your lived experience of the society come to the forefront of your mind when dealing with these issues?

Your life in the West gives your certain privileges and entitlements which means nobody is going to force you to make decisions which you don't want to make

Its entirely your choice.

But using Miswak doesn't take care of chipped teeth, cavities, gum disease, root decay and there is no claim in the Qur'aan and Sunnah. If you don't take care of an issue then you may end up with getting a bone graft or serious surgery down the line which a 5 minute filling could have taken care of without much fuss.

Miswak is for oral hygiene and not for chronic dental issues or decay or damage and Miswak does nothing for any of these.

Again, your life in the West entitles you to choices regarding your Health and well being.

Islam on the other hand obligates you to take care of your Health and obligates you to take treatment which may result in the person’s self-destruction, an organ’s loss or a disability, or if the disease may spread to others as in the case of contagious diseases.

When you have a chipped tooth, your bite invariably changes and when your bite changes the structure of your other teeth change, the gaps between teeth changes which means there is extra structural stress on your other teeth or may be on one side of your mouth etc and this is happening unconsciously because your body is doing what Allah سبحانه وتعالى designed it to do which is to limit damage!

Lastly, the treatment prices in UK are set, when choose not to get treatment for something early then potentially go into a bigger issue which costs more, hurts more and takes you into territory which may or may not be Halal.

Again, Your life in the West entitles you to make all these decisions.

The news is not for me personally. But the fact that it is possible and can contain pig in it, it needs to be looked into by those who do need it. And as you've pointed out, "News" this is just a news article being shared in the news section. Not intended to be a discussion on people's say. But it is what it is.

I agree somewhat. But who really does look into the small print? People roll their sleeves up and put their trust in what they are being told by the experts (some experts who weren't made aware of the dangers until much later - and then spoke out about it - many posts regarding this on the forum)

And when something goes wrong, they are told, "Well, you did consent or you did sign the waiver form and on page 96, the 400 side effects are clearly explained over 9 pages, and you agreed to them as a potential risk" :(

Lets be honest; Re Covid vaccines: How many people actually looked into the side effects of the Pfizer Covid Vaccine before taking it and how many medical experts explained to their patients what was listed in the official release of potential side effects? Did ANYONE know about them prior to taking the shot?

Living in the West makes no difference when the manufacturers are protected from any form of liability. The trust goes out of the window! Especially during Covid.

Living in the West is not a privelege by default. We have to be very careful about anything and everything.
People are sold medications or creams etc with Dead Sea Salt in them and the masses just put their trust in "The West"
We aren't told that the foods being sold in the West by a Terrorist regime, uses recycled wastewater (treated sewage) to irrigate a large portion of its agriculture, including date palms!
We aren't told about child labour until investigated. Contestants on TV shows aren't told they are eating human flesh!
Filth and the forbiden are normalised, so we just have to be cautious in our everyday life and not be relaxed about it.

I would say the same for Muslim countries too. Not everything is Halal. Pakistan for example, openly selling haram sweets with clearly haram ingredients, just because they were able to bring them into the country and being sold in Pakistan, doesn't make it Halal! No Laws, No Shariah, Just Profit.

Having said the above, I fully agree with the teachings of the Prophet (s.a.w) about seeking medical treatment as well as this Hadith:
"Verily, Allah sent down the disease and the cure, and for every disease He made a cure. Seek treatment, but do not seek treatment by the unlawful." (Sunan Abi Dawud 3874) but we need to investigate to the best of our abilitity. We can't take any for granted because there is not much of a privelege anymore.

Hudhaifah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:
“Do not be a people without a will of your own, saying: 'If people treat us well, we will treat them well; and if they do wrong, we will do wrong,' but accustom yourselves to do good if people do good, and do not behave unjustly if they do evil.” Source

No longer accurate :(

UK is not a Muslim country so no consideration is made to Halal/Haram at any level and yet YOU choose to live there. That's YOUR choice.

Nowhere in the West, does a Doctor or Dentist asks a Patient to read a fine print and sign consent!

You live in a Democracy and have the right to believe in whatever you want to believe in but nobody is subjecting to medical procedures which you don't want.

Proof = YOU

You are walking around with chipped teeth and nobody is forcing treatment upon you.

The Dentists will xray your teeth and tell you its chipped and will tell you what fixing it involves and what it costs, rest is upto you.

Don't pay, don't get treated, whatever...

This isn't a philosophical discussion, there aren't NHS Police standing on Bus stations in England forcing injections and repairing chipped teeth and putting implants inside your body.

If due to ailment, injury, accident a treatment is required it is on YOU to give consent or withhold consent. If you require more information it is on YOU to ask for details. If its experimental it is on YOU to accept/decline.

You can sign a Advance decision to refuse treatment in UK right now instead of discussing theories on the Internet and that way (May Allah protect you and your family, Ameen) if you get incapacitated NHS will not treat you and let you die as per your wishes.

Again, you have the right to believe in whatever you want to believe and spread whatever you want to spread but nobody is putting things inside your body against your consent.

You choosing to believe in something hypothetical and phony which is starkly against your lived experience is also your choice.
