For many jobs this makes good sense business wise, saving on a lot of expenses such as office space rent and energy bills. It's also better for the environment and saves on commutes. Another thing COVID might accelerate is the idea of universal basic income.

Muslims turned away from hospital in India ‘unless they can prove they are coronavirus-free’

Reports suggest growing discrimination against minority during pandemic

Mosques in Mumbai on April 7, 2020, during a nationwide lockdown to slow the spread of coronavirus.

A cancer hospital in India is under investigation after declaring it would only admit Muslim for treatment if they can prove they do not have coronavirus.

The Valentis Hospital in Meerut, a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, issued an advert saying Muslim patients and their carers were required to provide test results showing they are negative for Covid-19.

The advert stated: “For hospital staff and patients’ security, the hospital administration requests all new Muslim patients that they, and one designated caregiver, get tested for coronavirus and visit the hospital only if their reports are negative.”

Police have served the hospital’s owner with preliminary charges, which allows them to formally start an investigation, according The Indian Express newspaper.

Ajay Sahni, the city’s senior police superintendent, said: “The police learnt that a hospital in the area, through advertisements, was making objectionable comments about a minority community which could lead to unrest.

“The owner/proprietor has been booked and the matter is being investigated.”

In response to the allegations, the hospital’s proprietor said: “The hospital does not discriminate against a particular community. Seventy per cent of our patients are Muslims.

“Due to typing errors or misprints, it appears that a wrong message was sent, for which we issued an apology.”

There have been numerous reports of discrimination against Muslims in India as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier this month, pregnant Muslim woman reportedly lost her baby after a doctor refused her entry to a government hospital in Rajasthan on the grounds of her religion.

The baby died after it was delivered in an ambulance.

The US Committee on International Religious Freedom expressed its “concern” on Wednesday following reports of a hospital in the state of Gujarat segregating its patients into different wards on the basis of religion.

The committee, which is appointed by Congress, said: “Such actions only help to further increase ongoing stigmatisation of Muslims in India and exacerbate false rumours of Muslims spreading Covid-19.”

The media and Hindu nationalist politicians have been accused of unfairly blaming Muslims for spreading Covid-19 after cases emerged among a gathering of Muslim missionaries in New Delhi last month.

Last year, Narendra Modi's government prompted widespread protests by introducing a controversial law which banned Muslim migrants from claiming Indian citizenship.

I can confirm I have heard this incident directly from Imām Fazal Hassan, may Allah reward him.

Allah's Word is indeed powerful, and provides solace and fortitude at all times, in all places and under all circumstances, if we but lend it the attention it deserves.

US oil price below zero for first time in history

US oil price below zero for first time in history
Brent crude, the international standard, was down $1.78 to $26.30 per barrel. Big oil-producing countries have agreed to cut production to help balance supplies with demand, but many analysts say the cuts are not sharp enough to lift prices.

WASHINGTON — Oil futures collapsed to below zero for the first time ever as the deepening economic turmoil caused by the coronavirus crisis left traders desperate to avoid taking delivery of physical crude.

In an unprecedented day of trading, the price for the May contracts wiped out all value, breaking every low for oil prices since 1946.

The exchange where WTI futures trade said the contract would be allowed to price below zero. The extreme move showed just how oversupplied the US oil market has become with industrial and economic activity grinding to a halt as governments around the globe extend shutdowns due to the swift spread of the coronavirus.

An unprecedented output deal by OPEC and allied members a week ago to curb supply is proving too little too late in the face a one-third collapse in global demand.

“Basically, bears are out for blood,” analyst Naeem Aslam of Avatrade said in a report. “The steep fall in the price is because of the lack of sufficient demand and lack of storage place given the fact that the production cut has failed to address the supply glut.”

Halliburton swung between gains and sharp losses, even though it reported stronger results for the first three months of 2020 than analysts expected. The oilfield engineering company said that the pandemic has created so much turmoil in the industry that it “cannot reasonably estimate” how long the hit will last. It expects a further decline in revenue and profitability for the rest of 2020, particularly in North America.

Brent crude, the international standard, was down $1.78 to $26.30 per barrel. Big oil-producing countries have agreed to cut production to help balance supplies with demand, but many analysts say the cuts are not sharp enough to lift prices.

A price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia had accelerated the slide prior to the production deal, hurting US shale producers. And storage capacity is becoming scarce in the United States, with the main WTI facilities in Cushing, Oklahoma filling up.

Wall Street was trading lower amid the turmoil on oil markets, with the Dow down 1.3 percent to 23,930.97.

The broad-based S&P 500 lost 0.8 percent to 2,851.58, while the tech-rich Nasdaq dipped 0.1 percent to 8,641.94.

Oil company shares were predictably battered in the downturn, with Chevron down 1.8 percent and ExxonMobil losing 3.2 percent. — Al Arabiya English

New York mosque still open for daily prayers while churches across the country face mandatory shutdowns

20 April 2020

www.theblaze.com/news/new-york-mosque-open-daily-prayers

A mosque in New York is reportedly still open for daily prayers amid the coronavirus pandemic that has forced Christian churches across the country to close their doors and cancel their in-person gatherings.

While churchgoers in many states have been criticized and even punished for continuing to gather, that same level of scrutiny has apparently not been leveled at the Mosque of Jesus, Son of Mary in Syracuse, New York.

What are the details?

Despite the state's executive order, which broadly bans all "non-essential gatherings of individuals of any size for any reason," neighborhood Muslims are still allowed gather together in the mosque's prayer room for calls to prayer throughout the week.

"About 10 worshippers in masks are allowed in at a time, though rarely do that many show up. They stand far apart from each other as they follow a prayer leader standing on a plastic-covered prayer rug," a Syracuse.com report notes. (Though in a video of one of the prayers, it appears that the worshippers are not at least 6 feet away, as the Centers for Disease Control recommends).

While it should be noted that the mosque has gone to great lengths to limit attendees' exposure to the virus by covering the prayer room in plastic and installing a special ventilation system, it is unclear as to how that exempts the mosque from the government mandate.

Yet instead of facing criticism for continuing to gather, the mosque was commended by the news outlet for its efforts to "keep the faith" during the pandemic, especially as the Muslim holy month of Ramadan approaches.

According to the report, Irfan Elahi, an asbestos abatement expert who worships at the mosque, said that when the outbreak started, mosque leaders in the area were worried that Muslims would panic if daily prayers were cancelled.

What's the background?

Over the past few weeks, churchgoers in many states have been prohibited from gathering and, in many cases, have been punished for doing so despite government orders.

In Mississippi, some churchgoers received $500 fines for sitting in their vehicles in a church parking lot listening to a radio broadcast of the service. In Kentucky, nails were allegedly scattered at the parking lot entrances to prevent people from attending the Easter service. A northern California county even outlawed singing during church livestreams unless people are in a home.

In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio threatened to "permanently" shut down churches and synagogues if they refused to comply with the government's shelter-in-place order.

New York state, where the mosque is located, has been the hardest hit by the COVID-19 outbreak, with over 130,000 confirmed cases and more than 14,000 deaths reported as of Monday, according to the New York Times.

U.K. to Hold the World's Biggest Single Trial of Possible COVID-19 Treatment

Tech Times
21 April 2020 12:57

Over 6,000 coronavirus patients in the United Kingdom have volunteered in a drug trial managed by the University of Oxford, hoping to find the right treatment for coronavirus.

Called The Randomised Evaluation of COV-id19 thERapY (RECOVERY) trial, this is currently the world's biggest single trial of drugs to treat COVID-19.

With the support of Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty, the university has pleaded doctors nationwide to enroll patients in the voluntary trial.

Since then, patients have signed up for the trial in over 160 NHS facilities around the country, but experts still hope for more volunteers.

While there is no minimum number of people required for the trial to be successful, health experts said, the more participants the trial has, the greater possibility for the team to find answers.

In this trial, each participant will receive one of five drugs currently on the market, including the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine promoted by Donald Trump.

The other drugs being looked at as a treatment for COVID-19 include the HIV-treatment Kaletra, which is the combination of Lopinavir and Ritonavir; low-dose steroid Dexamethasone, which reduces inflammation; azithromycin, a commonly used antibiotic with antiviral properties; and recently, the steroid Tocilizumab has been added to the trial.

Similar trials are already set up worldwide, but with lesser participants than the U.K. program.

UK Headlines were, "Delivery from Turkey delayed for essential PPE"

Reality is UK lied again!

Quote:
The UK government has botched an attempt to import crucial surgical masks and other medical protective equipment from Turkey in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, according to a report.

The UK has repeatedly insisted a plane carrying 84 tonnes of personal protective equipment needed by frontline medical staff treating victims of Covid-19 was on its way from Turkey. But Turkish authorities said London only asked the government to help get the gear on Sunday, according to a report by Sky News.

Some information about Hydroxychloroquine has been published by the US Veterans Administration regarding their experience with it's usage.

"A malaria drug widely touted by President Donald Trump for treating the new coronavirus showed no benefit in a large analysis of its use in U.S. veterans hospitals. There were more deaths among those given hydroxychloroquine versus standard care, researchers reported.

The nationwide study was not a rigorous experiment. But with 368 patients, it’s the largest look so far of hydroxychloroquine with or without the antibiotic azithromycin for COVID-19, which has killed more than 171,000 people as of Tuesday."

Donald Trump says US will not renew social distancing guidance after it expires today

Donald Trump has announced that the federal government will not be extending its coronavirus social distancing guidelines after they expire on Thursday.

The US president said he plans to resume official travel with a trip to Arizona next week.

Mr Trump also said he hopes to hold mass campaign rallies in the coming months with thousands of supporters, even though medical experts have said there is little hope of having a vaccine by then.
