Fatwa Issued Against Muslims Who Support Muhammad Ali Jinnah

New Delhi, May 8: Amid ongoing row over Mohammad Ali Jinnah portrait in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Dargah Aala Hazrat seminary in Bareilly has issued a fatwa against Muslims saying that no one should support Pakistan founder, a news agency ANI reported. The fatwa read, “Any Muslim should not stand by Mohamad Ali Jinnah, if they do so that’ll be wrong. It also states that putting up his portrait is wrong. Jinnah is not an idol for Muslims, he is the founder of an enemy nation.”

The pronouncement came after BJP Aligarh MP Satish Gautam wrote a letter to AMU’s Vice-Chancellor seeking an explanation on the portrait of Pakistan’s founder in the students’ union office. The portrait of Jinnah has been hanging on a wall in the students union’s office at AMU for decades.

Dargah Aala Hazrat issued fatwa that any Muslim should not stand by Md.Ali Jinnah, if they do so that'll be wrong. It also states that putting up his portrait is wrong. Jinnah is not an idol for Muslims, he is founder of an enemy nation:

Many political leaders had also voiced different views on the issue. Last week, 28 students and 13 cops were injured in a clash which broke out between AMU students and the police. As per the media reports, as many as 3,000 protesters gathered at the main gate, Baab-e-Sayyad, of AMU, seeking a judicial inquiry against Hindu groups who barged into the campus and clashed with the students on Wednesday. AMU Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) has sent a memorandum to President Ram Nath Kovind demanding a high-level judicial probe.

Furthermore, the protest has also been joined by the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Allahabad University and Jamia Millia Islamia.

The row started after local BJP MP Satish Gautam wrote to the Aligarh Muslim University authorities, asking why a photo of Muhammad Ali Jinnah was still on display at the varsity. Questioning its presence on the campus, he said there was no justification for displaying a photo of the man who was responsible for the creation of Pakistan. “If they really want to put pictures, they should display photos of great men like Mahendra Pratap Singh who donated land for this institution,” Gautam said.

Meanwhile, the university had said that portraits of all life members of the student union hang there. Jinnah, a founder member of the University Court, had also been given this honour before Partition.

Why is a Jinnah who is hated by all Indians must be placed inside AMU. It is secondary that fanatics have brought this news to all Indians, but at first place why was the controversy created. Why the photo was not removed after independence.

Wrong message is sent to secular silent majority in India. And we indian Muslims have to give explanation on an issue they are unaware. "Why is jinnah portrait in India, in an muslim institution."

Before things got out of hand, university authorities would have taken steps to remove Jinah's portrait. Why was the mess created by giving explanations on why his photo is on walls of university.

It is not about name, it is portrait present in AMU. They have the right to oppose this.

Nothing wrong if someone is name as Jinnah. But he must be ready to explain why he is named jinnah.He is in soup if he says he is named after mohammed ali jinnah. This is like some one is born in US or UK and named as saddam, osama etc.

Is it simply the issue of portrait or is it more than that,challanging the Muslim identity of Aligarh Muslim university? Removing the portrait of Jinnah is no big issue,although if the majority had shown large heartedness,it could be left there hanging. After all Jinnah,s role as a leader for independence of India was no less than any other Indian leader,but if the majority of the country is narrow minded and is bent upon proving Jinnah right for demanding a separate Muslim state fearing Hindu hegemony,let them do it. I don’t see any point Indian Muslims putting up a fight for his portrait.

The real issue is not the portrait.It is symptomatic of a deeper trouble brewing in India,Hindu extremism ! It is Hindutwa,a new kind of Hindu fascism,where minorities will find it hard to find a breathing space inside India in future. Not only Muslims,Christians,Sikhs will become increasingly under pressure but it may extend to low caste Hindus.If this tendency continues,large cracks may appear in Indian society and ultimately in state. It is a recipe for disaster in the long run.BJP and its sister organisations are playing with fire for short term election gains. May Allah SWT keep the Muslims of India protected. All they need to do is to close ranks and use the power of their vote to keep BJP out of power in next election.

When you have the problem, don't fall the bait. Clean the system and be alert.

Our concern is not fanatics, but the silent majority getting carried away by the propaganda. We have to shield them from the propaganda. Don't add fuel to fire.

May be this is the best angle - to assert that we are Muslims and we do not harbour a thing for pictures. This angle did not come to my mind when this issue exploded on the scene otherwise I would have gone full throttle for it. By now too much of water have flown down the river and so late into the issue I can not start asserting this angle.

On a related issue there was a wonderful opportunity for Muslim brothers and sisters to avail some time ago. A provincial communist government in India was replaced by the bigoted BJP. The supporters of the new government went in a big way against the former rulers - the communists. One line of action they took was to topple a huge statute of Lenin. This lead to a series of sabotage of statues all over India. For a few days whole of India was sending news about iconoclasm. That was the time when Muslim brothers and sisters should have congratulated Indians and India for coming close to Islam.

ALIGARH: The students of the Aligarh Muslim University(AMU), which is in the centre of a controversy over demands for removing the portrait of Pakistan founder Muhammad Ali Jinnahfrom its campus, have now written a letter to the Centre and the state government demanding action against the right-wing members for damaging the reputation of the historic university.

According to reports, the members of the AMU Students' Union have written three separate letters addressing PM Narendra Modi, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Union HRD Ministryto clear the air over the matter and take action against those who allegedly entered into the varsity's campus on May 2 and indulged in an "unprovoked attack" on students.......
