Fashion show in Medina sparks Saudi anger on Twitter

A fashion show in Medina has sparked anger among Saudi Twitter users.

Twitter users launched a sharp attack on the organisers of the fashion show, saying that such events are not suitable in the holy city of Medina.

Twitter user, Ahmed criticised the organisers of the show:
Ahmed wrote:
“These people aim to distort the image of the Two Holy Sites and their sanctity … even the city of the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him has not been exempt from their harm.”
Mishary wrote:
“Wine has become a mere drink, gambling became a game of luck and singing became an art, bribery became drinking a coffee and promiscuity became civilisation, make up became elegance, nudity became freedom and adultery became a transient relationship?. All while the promotion of virtue has become fanaticism and the prohibition of vice has become backwardness. Satan has been frank with us, he has given us a fashion show in the city of the Prophet.”
Omar wrote:
“Development and progress should never be measured by promiscuity, songs and fashion shows… Oh people! Please bear in mind that we are a conservative state that implements the law of Sharia. It is the State of the two Holy Mosques, a country where the Prophet lived and died. He concluded, “Oh Allah, if your people are caught into the trap of seduction and tribulation, take my soul not seduced.”
“In short, this sense of futility which is happening in the city of Al-Mustapha and in neighbouring cities and in all the cities of Hejaz can be rendered to the emergence of a few groups in the scene, whose roots are from other non-conservative societies. They do not want to integrate with the local community, and try to impose the culture of their non-conservative original communities and introduce it as the culture of Hejaz.”
“Medina is a sanctified place and anyone who engenders vice and those who protect him/her are cursed by God, the angels and all the people. This is a holy land that witnessed the gathering of al-Muhajireen and al-Ansar (immigrants and supporters) and is where the most honoured prophet lies. You do not have the right to commit acts of desecration in this land under the name of a misleading show, which is overtly a philanthropic event but is covertly a practice of corruption. Do not provoke people in their religion and sanctities.”

Last December, Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz dismissed advisor to the Ministry of Trade and Investment, Ghassan Alsulaiman, because of a fashion show and claims of promiscuity in Riyadh.

In the last week of February, Jeddah witnessed the first public women’s fashion show, as part of the 19th session of the Saudi International Wedding exhibition. The exhibition lasted for three days, with the participation of 160 local and international companies that provided the latest innovations and equipment in the world of fashion, beauty, decoration and jewellery and all related to brides’ accessories.

There is a fellow who says that he loves his Shaykh.

Yet his actions reflect intentions that are fake.

Nothing is really for Allah’s sake.

Hence this fellow’s heart has been pierced with a stake,

because of the disobedience that he partakes.

Is this something that shouldn’t be expected,

when the Shaykh’s instructions this fool rejected?

So don’t be surprised by his lack of sight,

this didn’t happen overnight.

And the Shaykh has nothing to do with this fake love,

may Allah always keep him far away from it and above.

definitely some sort of agenda there. they had the whole of saudi arabia to do this, yet they chose to do it in the holy city of the prophet (saw). they would have done it in makkah if they could, but obviously they know they wouldnt be able to get away with that. what stands out is that some years ago there would have been an uproar had they done such a thing then, but today it seems that most people dont care. where is our iman when we allow the prophet (saw) city to get violated like this? how many of us truly have iman in this day and age?

I can't seem to find much about this on the internet. I don't know the agenda of those involved.

But is the shown open to men and women? Are the women modelling revealing, tight clothing like swimwear? Are non Muslims allowed in the haram area?

May be it was kept private. Probably only within a certain group of people.

I remember when we were driving around in Madinah we came across a place that was a shock to see. It was like being in Dubai and LA. Very upsetting to see load music playing from cars, diners packed out. Boys and girls out together messing around as if they were from a another world.

Anyways, only other place I've seen the same tweets were here ciiradio.com/2018/03/07/fashion-show-in-medina-sparks-twi...

We cannot make excuses for these types of actions and events.

Making excuses for these types of actions is nothing but short sightedness and naivety.

It does not matter if it was "halaal" by being segregated, or by not allowing non-Muslims into the haram or if it was open to only a certain group of people etc.

The reason is because, even if it was only open to women, even if there was no revealing clothing etc. having an event like this is a step. A step in the wrong direction. If today's step is that we have a fashion show in Madina that is "halaal" then it is guaranteed that tommorows step will be to have a fashion show that is makruh, and next weeks step will be to have a fashion show that is haraam. But not as many people will throw a fit over a haraam fashion show, because they will have already been normalised to accepting fashion shows in madina, and the haraam will now only be seen as a little unfortunate extra.

MAking excuses for this type of thing, looking into it more to see what the reality it etc is not righteousness, it's delusional.

on top of that even "halaal" Fashion shows are nothing but events that develop your love for the dunya and weaken your love for Allah tala. They are nothing but another manifestation of vanity.

Not saying this event was halal, as the tweets indicate otherwise but I have seen organization host a ladies only fashion evening, and I don't see the big deal about an event like that .

Anyways let's make a thread on what's really wrong and dangerous, like what's happening in Tunisia.

the gradual transition of the holy city into a safe zone for fitnah and haraam is a VERY important issue. ulama bodies, individual ulama, other islamic bodies and leaders, the general muslims of the world should be up in arms and holding emergency meetings and efforts to put a stop to this. this WILL NOT stop at madina. it will spread even upto makkah. just think, right now the Prophet (saw) is in madina and is aware of these things that are going on around him. imagine his pain.
