On the authority of Sayyiduna 'Abdullah Ibn Mas'ood (رضي الله عنه) who narrates that the Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) said: "To look at 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) is an act of worship." (Reported by at-Tabarani and al-Hakim, and the chain of narrators of this hadeeth is good)

On the authority of Hadrat Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه), who said that the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:"He who harms 'Ali (رضي الله عنه), harms me." (Reported by Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar)

Umm Salamah (رضي الله عنها) narrates: I head Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) say: "'Ali (رضي الله عنه) does not part with Qur'an, nor does the Qur'an part with him; they will be together till they meet me at the Fountain (on the Day of Judgement)." (at-Tabarani with an authentic chain of narrators)

On the authority of Umm Salamah (رضي الله عنها) who says that she heard Allaah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) say: "He who insults 'Ali (رضي الله عنه), insults me." (Reported by Ahmad and al-Hakim, and the hadeeth was authenticated by the latter)

On the authority of Hadrat Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) that Allaah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said to Hadrat Ali (رضي الله عنه): "You will fight in support of the Qur'an just like I fought to convey its message." (Reported by Ahmad and al-Hakim with an authentic chain of narrators)

Sayyiduna 'Ali (كرم الله وجهه) is reported to have said: "Allaah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) called me one day and said: 'You have some of the attributes of 'Eesa (Jesus عليه السلام); the Jews hated him to the extent that they accused his mother Maryam (عليها السلام) (of lewdness) falsely; and the Christians loved him to the extent that they raised him to a status (of lordship) which he did not deserve.

Two kinds of people will seek my destruction. He who feigns excessive love for me, and exceeds the limits in praising me, and he who slanders me, and is led by such hatred to accuse me falsely.'" (al-Bazzar, Abu Ya'la)

'Ali Ibn Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) by Dr. Ali M. Salabi PDF (2 Volumes)

http://www.kalamullah.com/ali-ibn-abi-talib.html

Succession to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم...The murder of `Uthman رضي الله عنه and the quest for justice...The Battle of the Camel...Ahl al-Bayt...Caliphs and Imams...Moderation and extremism...

This book is far more than a biography, as it discusses major issues that have their origins in the early decades of Islam, the repercussions of which are still felt today. In this book, Dr. Sallabi guides the reader through a myriad of hadiths and reports, peeling away the centuries-old layer of fabrications and distortions through which hostile elements both in the Muslim world and beyond sought to conceal the truth. What emerges is a clear picture of the first great turmoil that engulfed the Muslim world and how the noble Companions of the Prophet and the members of his family worked together to resolve these momentous issues, following the guidance and teaching brought by the Messenger of Allah.

The true battle for hearts and minds is that which is raging in the Muslim world today, where many vested interests are seeking to distort the very self-image of the Muslims. It is high time for us to reclaim our history and to stop letting others tell it for us. This book is of great importance as it sets the record straight on a period of our history that is of major significance. Every Muslim who cares about the big issues faced by Islam and Muslims should read this book.

Ibn Sa'd (رحمه الله) reports that Hadrat 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: "By Allaah, no verse was revealed without my knowing the reason for its revelation, where it was revealed, and the person who was the cause of its revelation; indeed my Lord (سبحانه و تعالى) has granted me sound memory, mind, and honesty of speech."

On the authority of Ibn Sa'd (رحمه الله) and others who report that Abu at-Tufayl (رحمه الله) said that Hadrat 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) stated: "Ask me anything about Allaah's Book, for I know everything about the verses therein: those that were revealed during day, those that were revealed during the night, and those that were sent to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) while he was on mountains." (Seeratul Khulafaa' ar-Rashideen رضي الله عنهم أجمعين)

Muhammad Ibn Seereen (رحمه الله) narrates: "After the death of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) delayed pledging his allegiance to Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (رضي الله عنه), who asked him: 'Are you against my leadership?' Hadrat 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) answered: 'No, but I promised not to wear my wraparound except to go for salaah, till I have writtedn all I know about the Qur'an.'" (Abu Da'ood)

During the Khilaafah of Sayyidina 'Ali (رضي الله عنه), he would read 20 Rak'aat Taraweeh prayer in Kufa. In the month of Ramadaan, Sayyidina 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) would state: 'May Allah enlighten the grave of Sayyidina Umar (رضي الله عنه), just as he has enlightened our Masaajid for us.' (Due to the fact of establishing the 20 Rak'aat Taraaweeh for the Ummah). (Minhaaj ul Sunnah vol 2, p224)

Sayyiduna 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) is also reported to have said, "The close 'relative' is the person who is brought closer to you in love, even though he may not be a real relative. And the distant 'relative' is he who one distances himself from, through enmity, even though he may have a blood relation with him. No part of the body is closer to the hands than the body itself; but if the hand is unsound, it is cut and severed."
