Hadrat Ibn 'Abbaas (رضي الله عنهما) reports that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: "After my death, the truth shall be with 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) wherever he may be." (at-Tabarani, and ad-Dailami)
Hadrat Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) reports that Allaah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, "Whoever hates 'Umar (رضي الله عنه), hates me. And whoever loves 'Umar (رضي الله عنه), loves me. Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) boasts of people on the eve of 'Arafaat in general and of 'Umar in particular. Whenever Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) sent a prophet to a nation, he had a spokesman among his people. If there is one among my nation, he is 'Umar (رضي الله عنه)."
He was asked, "O Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم), who is a spokesman?" The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) replied, "He is the mouthpiece of the angels." (at-Tabarani)
'Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) His Life and Times (PDF) -http://www.kalamullah.com/umar-ibn-alkhattab.html By Ali Muhammad Sallaabee. The second caliph of Islam, 'Umar ibn al-Khattb (رضي الله عنه) faced more struggles than any other Muslim leader in the early onset of Islam. His life began in a time of ignorance and ended during the Golden Age of Islam. Under his leadership, the Muslim world was witnessing some of its most notable conquests in the history of Islam. The strength and resilience of Islam's leaders were being tested, and 'Umar ibn al-Khattb's (رضي الله عنه) true commitment to Allah shone to reveal an Islamic spirit unlike that found in any other Muslim leader. The standards by which he lived can teach us a lot about determination, hardship, and success.
This book was translated into English by Nasiruddin al-Khattab. From the Translator:
For those who would be leaders, this book offers the model of an ideal Muslim leader, one who felt responsible before Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) for the well being of all those under his rule, including his troops, women, infants, non-Muslim subjects and even animals. 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) was a 'hands on' leader who kept himself informed and consulted scholars and experts before every major decision.
For the rest of us, this book offers a window into an exciting and important period of Islamic history, and it also reminds of an important lesson, that our strength comes not from wealth or money or status, but from our submission to Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) and our commitment to the path of Islam.

It is reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) saw Sayyiduna 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) dressed in a garment (in another narration, a white raiment), so he asked him, "Is your garment new or washed?" 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) replied, "It is washed." The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) returned, "Wear new clothes, live praised (by people) all your life, and die as a martyr." (Reported by Imam Ahmad (رحمه الله), and 'Abdur Razzaaq (رحمه الله))
Sayyiduna Anas Ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) narrated: The Prophet () ascended the mountain of Uhud accompanied by Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (رضي الله عنه), 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) and 'Uthmaan (رضي الله عنه). The mountain shook beneath them. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) hit it with his foot and said, 'O Uhud! Be firm, for on you there is none but a Prophet, a Siddeeq, and a Martyr (i.e. and two martyrs).' (al-Bukhari, Abu Da'ood, at-Tirmidhi)
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) recounts that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, "While a man was riding a cow, it turned and said to him, 'I have not been created for this purpose (i.e. carrying loads), I have been created for ploughing.'" The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) added, "I, Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه), and 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) believe the story." The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) went on, "A wolf caught a sheep, and when the shepherd chased it, the wolf said, 'Who will be its guard on the day of wild beasts, when there will be no shepherd for it except me?'" Having narrated the story, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, "I, Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه), and 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) too believe it." Abu Salama (رضي الله عنه) (a sub-narrator) said, "Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) and 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) were not present then." [Ahmad, al-Bukhari, Muslim, and an-Nasa'i رحمة الله عليهم]
A Special Distinguishing Attribute Of Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) And Umar (رضي الله عنه)
The commentator of Aqeedah Tahawiyya [Ibn Abil-Izz رحمه الله] says that the order of superiority for the Rightly-Guided Caliphs (رضي الله عنهم) is the same as their order in succession. However, Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) and 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) have another distinguishing attribute. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ordered us to follow the general way (Sunna) of the rightly-guided caliphs (رضي الله عنهم), but did not order us to emulate (iqtidaa') each and every action (af'al) legislated by any except Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه and Umar رضي الله عنه. He (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, 'Follow the two after me: Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) and 'Umar' (رضي الله عنه) (Tirmidhi), and there is a difference between ittibaa' (following their way in general) and 'iqtidaa' (taking them as complete exemplars). [al-Fiqh al-Akbar Explained]
Sayyiduna Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) reports that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: "The most merciful of my nation is Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه), and the firmest in abiding by Allaah's (سبحانه و تعالى) commands is 'Umar (رضي الله عنه)." (Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi, and an-Nasa'i رحمة الله عليهم)
The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم had once addressed Sayyidna Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (رضي الله عنه) and Sayyidna 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) in the following words: "When you agree on an opinion, I do not decide against you." (Hafiz Ibn Kathir (رحمه الله) with reference to the Musnad of Ahmad (رحمه الله))
Hadrat 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) was second to none but Hadrat Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (رضي الله عنه) in closeness to and approval from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم).
The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "I have two ministers from the inhabitants of the heavens, and two ministers of the inhabitants of the earth. The ministers of the heavens are Jibreel (عليه السلام) and Mika'eel (عليه السلام), and the ministers of the earth are Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) and 'Umar (رضي الله عنه)." (at-Tirmidhi رحمه الله)
It is related that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, speaking about Hadrat Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (رضي الله عنه) and Hadrat 'Umar (رضي الله عنه), "These two are like my ears and eyes." (Reported by at-Tirmidhi رحمه الله, and al-Hakim رحمه الله)
Having fallen ill, Hadrat Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (رضي الله عنه) was asked, "What would you say to Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى), having appointed 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) as your successor?"
He answered, "I would say, I appointed the very best of the people as their ruler." (Reported by Ibn Sa'd)
Hadrat Ali (رضي الله عنه) said, "If we are to mention the righteous, 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) is surely first on the list. There was never any doubt that he was the voice of wisdom." (at-Tabarani)
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
