Az-Zubayr Ibn Bakkaar رضي الله عنه is quoted to have said, 'I heard some scholars say that the most eloquent speakers among the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam)'s Companions (radiallaahu 'anhum) are Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq رضي الله عنه, and 'Ali Ibn Abi Taalib رضي الله عنه.' (Ibid, Page 36)

Hadhrat Amr ibn al-Aas رضي الله عنه quotes the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) to have said, "Jibreel (a.s) has come to me and said, 'Allaah (azza wa jal) orders you to consult Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه.'" (Ibn Asaakir) (Ibid, page 36)

Sayyiduna Mu'aadh Ibn Jabal (radiallaahu 'anh) narrates: When the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) wanted to send to me to Yemen, he consulted some of his Companions, among whom were Hadhrat Abu Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthmaan, 'Ali, Talhah, az-Zubayr, and Usayd Ibn Hudayr (radiallaahu 'anhum). Every one of them stated his own opinion. Then the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) asked me, 'What do you see, O Mu'aadh?' I replied, 'I go with what Abu Bakr has said.' To this the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, 'Allaah hates in His Heaven that the view of Abu Bakr be considered wrong.' (At-Tabaraani, Abu Nu'aym, and others) (Ibid, Page 36)

Hadhrat Abu Bakr's (R.A) Scrupulous Conscience

Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiallaahu 'anh) never ate unlawful food. It is said that he had a slave who used to give him a portion of his daily income as the master's share. Once he brought him some food, and Hadhrat Abu Bakr (radiallaahu 'anh) took a morsel out of it. Then the slave said to him 'You always inquired about the source of what I bring to you, but today to have not done so.' Hadhrat Abu Bakr (radiallaahu 'anh) replied: 'I felt so hungry that I failed to do that. Tell me now, whence did you bring this food?' The slave replied, 'Before embracing Islaam, I practised soothsaying. During these days, I came across some people for whom I practised some of my charms. They promised to pay me for that later on. I happened to pass by those people today, while they were engaged in a marriage ceremony, and they gave me this food.'

On saying this, Hadhrat Abu Bakr (radiallaahu 'anh) exclaimed: 'Ah! You would have surely killed me?' Then he tried to disgorge the morsel he had swallowed, but he could not do so, as his stomache had been quite empty. Somebody suggested to him to take water to his fill and then retch it. Thereupon Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiallaahu 'anh) sent for a goblet of water and kept on taking water and forcing it out, till he had vomited out the morsel.

Somebody remarked: 'May Allaah have mercy on you! You put yourself to such trouble for a single morsel.' To this Hadhrat Abu Bakr (radiallaahu 'anh) replied: 'I would have thrust it out even if I had to lose my life, for I heard the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) say, 'Any flesh which has grown out of unlawful earnings will not enter Paradise.' I, therefore, made haste to clear my stomach of this morsel, lest any portion of my body should receive nourisment from it.' (Reported by Abu Nu'aym) (Ibid, Pages 43-44)

Hadrat Abu Bakr (radiallaahu 'anh)'s Fear Of Alaah

According to our belief, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (radiallaahu 'anh) is the most exaled person after the Prophets (alayhimus-salaam). The Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) conveyed to him the glad tidings that his name shall be called out from all the gates of Paradise, and that he will be the first of his followers to enter it.

With all these virtues and privileges, he used to say, 'I wish I were a tree that would be cut and done away with.' Sometimes he said, 'I wish I were a blade of grass whose life ended with the grazing of some beast.' This reflects his utter fear of Allah and his apprehension of reckoning on the Day of Judgement. (Ibid, Page 44)

Abu Ahmad al-Haakim رضي الله عنه reports on the authority of Hadrat Mu'aadh Ibn Jabal (radiallaahu 'anh) who said: One day Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه entered a garden where he saw a bird standing under the shade of a tree. He sighed deeply and said: "O bird, how lucky you are! You eat from trees and take shade under them; when you die you do not have fear of reckoning on the Day of Judgement. I wish I were just like you." (Ibid, Page 44)

Al-Asma'i رضي الله عنه narrates: When Hadrat Abu Bakr (radiallaahu 'anh) was praised he used to say: 'O Allah! Let me better than I think I am, forgive me for what they do not know, and do not hold me accountable for what they say'. (Reported by Ibn 'Asaakir) (Ibid, Page 44)

Some narrations have it that someone either abused or reviled Sayyidna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه who said to him, 'If what you are saying is true that I am at fault and I am bad, then I pray Allah Ta'ala to forgive me, and if you have told a lie then may Allah Forgive you.' (Qurtubi) (Ma'ariful Qur'an, Volume 7)

Asslamo Allaikum,

I have an intense dislike for Rawafidh (Shias) so I have a habit of saying:

Khaleefatur-Rasool Sayyidina Abu-Bak'r As-Sideeq (RA)

The way their face drops, make my day!

Ahmad رضي الله عنه narrates on the authority of Mujaahid رضي الله عنه who said: 'When Ibn az-Zubayr رضي الله عنه used to stand for Salaah (prayer) he used to look like a 'stick' out of his extreme devoutness and piety. And I was told that Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه was like him.' (Ibid, page 45)

On the authority of Damurah Ibn Habeeb رضي الله عنه who says: 'When one of Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه's sons was on his deathbed, he kept looking at a cushion, so they moved him away from the cushion and found five or six dinars under it. Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه said: 'To Allah we belong, and to him is our return! I do not think that you can bear the burden of that sin.'' (Reported by Ahmad) (Ibid, page 45)
