Question

Is this narration authentic?

Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu’anhu) reported that Allah’s Messenger (saw) said:

“Purify these bodies and Allah سبحانه وتعالى will purify you, for there is no slave who goes to sleep in a state of purity but an Angel spends the night with him, and every time he turns over, [the Angel] says, ‘O Allah! Forgive Your slave, for he went to bed in a state of purity.”

Answer

This Hadith is recorded in Al-Mu’jamul Awsat of Tabarani, hadith: 5087
‘Allamahs: Mundhiri and Dimyati (rahimahumallah) have declared the chain as good(Jayyid).
(Targhib, vol.1 pg. 409 & Al-Matjarur Rabih, hadith: 353. Also see: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol.1 pg.226 & Faydul Qadir, hadith: 5278 for a similar Hadith)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,

Hakimul ummah rh.a suggested his mureed on the issue of tahajjud that if someone wants to pray tahajjud but is unable to rise for salah, then he should pray some rakat of salah before going to bed with the intention of tahajjud.

(Whoever retires to his bed in a state of wudu', an angel supplicates all night long, "O my Lord, forgive this slave of Yours.") [Hakim]

(He who goes to bed in a state of wudu' and starts sleeping by making remembrance of Allahu ta'ala is considered to be performing salat until he wakes up. An angel does acts of worship for him. If he makes remembrance of Allahu ta'ala when he wakes up too, that angel supplicates Allah to forgive him.) [Ibn Hibban]

(He who goes to bed in a state of wudu' is similar to one who worships at night and fasts in the daytime.) [Daylami]

(A person who retires to bed in a state of wudu' will become a martyr if he dies at night.) [Ibn Sunni]
