Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه narrated that the messenger of Allah (saw) said:

"He who imitates any people is one of them"

(Abu Dawud and Ahmad)

Lessons to be learnt:

-Muslims are suppose to be distinguishable from non-Muslims

-It is prohibited to imitate the kuffar

-Imitation of the kuffar is serious and causes the Muslim to lose his Islamic personality

-Islam is the highest of all religions and ideologies

-A Muslim should be acknowledged and recognised by his appearance as well as his behaviour and his inner character.

assalamualaikum.w.w

i have to say that this issue of immitating imediately reminds me of those who allow themselves and especially their children in partaking such occasions as easter, christmas, diwali and all the non-islamic celebrations.

i share the following incident relating to the above: as it is the trend for those who like to follow fashion, a young girl in india wore a bindi (a small designed circle between her eyebrows) whilst wearing a bindi this girl was found dead on the railtracks, because she could only be recognised by her appearance she was cremated like a hindu, it wasn't until after her cremation through her family searching for her, that it had come to light that this girl was a born muslim. a bit scary isn't it especially for those of us who like to immitate the latest fashion.

may Allah s.w.t. have mercy on us and protect us from immitating non-islamic habits and customs that cause us harm in both worlds. Ameen

wassalam
