As-Salaam alaykum,
In Ayat 46 of Surat Kahfi of the Holy Qur'an (18:46), AllahU, Tabaraka Wa Ta'ala, says:--
"WEALTH AND CHILDREN ARE THE EMBELLISHMENT OF WORLDLY LIFE, AND THE
GOOD THINGS THAT LAST (al-baqiyat-as-salihat) ARE GREATER WITH YOUR LORD
AND GREATER IN EXPECTATION."
Material things are short-lived and temporary, but "the good things that last" will remain and endure for ever. That is, their reward will continue into the hereafter, and the hereafter is far better and everlasting.
Now, what are "the good things that last"? The Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, told us what they are in the following Hadith:--
Abu Sai'd al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, reported from the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, that he said:--
"MAKE PLENTY OF THE 'GOOD THINGS THAT LAST (al-baqiyat salihat)'. It was said: AND
WHAT ARE THEY, O MESSENGER OF ALLAH"? He said: "TAKBIR (Saying: ALLAHU AKBAR),
TAHLIL (Saying: LA-ILAHA ILLALLAH), TAHMID (Saying: AL-HAMDULILLAH), and Saying:
LA-HAWLA WALA QUWATA ILLA BILLAH." [Bukhari, Muslim].
Also, the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said: "THE MOST BELOVED WORDS TO ALLAH ARE
4: SUBHANALLAH, ALHAMDULILLAH, LA-ILAHA ILLALLAH, ALLAHU AKBAR. [Sahih Muslim].
We should, therefore, include lots of reciting of the BAQIYAT-SALIHAT in our daily Zikr... when we come to remember Allah, Azzah Wa Jallah, in the mornings and evenings.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
