Wa alaikum as salâm,

I'll give you three âyahs plus more. Please don't adopt the ahli hadîth methodology of "show me an âyah or hadîth where it says exactly (i.e. verbatim) "the purpose of 'qitâl is da'wah".

Sûrah al-Baqarah: âyah 193

Sûrah at-Tawbah: âyah 39

Sûrah al-Anfâl: âyah 61

In Mufti Afzal Husain Ilyâs's Qur'ân Made Easy, he mentions in the summary of sûrah al-anfâl:

Among the verses detailing the laws of Jihaad is verse 61 in which Allaah says, "If they (your enemy) are inclined towards making peace, then you should also incline yourselves to it (by concluding a peace treaty with them) and trust in Allaah". In such circumstances, Muslims should also enter into a pact because their objective is to propagate Allaah's Deen and not to spill blood.

A point in Sirah

Once Maulana Yusuf Kandhlawi addressed a special gathering of the 'Ulama of the Bijnur district as follows, "All the delegations and armies that were dispatched by Sayyiduna Rasulullah to various areas and tribes were for the sake of Da'wah. According to one narration, the total number of expeditions undertaken during the time of Sayyiduna Rasulullah equals 23. According to another narration, 39 expeditions took place. Of these, only 9 took place for the purpose of fighting. The remaining were explicitly for the purpose of Da'wah. Only in one expedition did Sayyiduna Rasulullah personally injure a disbeliever.

Here we wish to show the thoroughness with which Maulana Yusuf had studied Sirah. Such facts can only be known after an exhaustive study of the subject.

Taken from the Chapter 3, The Erudite and Scholarly Position of Hadrat Ji in the book, Biography of Hadhrat Maulana Muhammad Yusuf Sahib, Amir of Tabligh

Inviting towards Islam on the battlefield

Rasulullah never fought anyone until he had invited him to Allah

Abdullah Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه narrates that Rasulullah would never fight any nation until he had already conveyed the Da'wah of Islam to them. (2)

Rasulullah Instructs the Muslim battalions to first gain people's confidence and then to invite them to Islam

Abdur Rahman bin Aa'idh رضي الله عنه narrates that whenever Rasulullah dispatched a battalion, he would brief them thus, "Gain the confidence of people and do not attack them until you have called them to Islam. If you bring to me the residents of every baked and unbaked home (of every city and village) on earth as Muslims, it would please me more than you killing their men and bringing their women and children to me as captives." (3)

(2) Abdur Razzaq, Hakim, Ahmad and Tabrani as quoted in Nasbur Ra'yah (Vol.2 Pg.278). Haythami (Vol.5.Pg.304) has commented on the Hadith. It may also be in Kanzul Ummal (Vol.Pg.298) and Bayhaqi (Vol.9.Pg107).

(3) Ibn Mandah and Ibn Asakir as quoted in Kanzul Ummal (Vol.2.Pg.294). Also reported by Ibn Shaheen and Baghawi as mentioned in Isabah (Vol.3.Pg.152) and by Tirmidhi (Vol.1.Pg.195).

Taken from Hayatus Sahabah, Vol. 1, Page 132.

From the above and from other proofs, the Ulama have deduced that the maqsad of qital (physical fighting) is i'laa klimatillah (to raise the word of Allah). So, whether the Sahabah did that or gave Da'wah, the maqsad was one and clearly understood.

Usually, based on experience, what happens now is:

The question gets sidetracked or,

The topic gets deliberately changed or,

Character assassination begins or,

There's silence.

I prefer to be quiet. So, may you please decline from addressing me regarding this?

Jazâkumullâhu khairan.

Asalamualaikum Hafiz saheb. I hope you're well.

How about just locking the thread?

I was wanting to initially submit this fatwa, and then was going to have the thread locked. I knew someone was bound to blow a gasket because they can't stomach the mere fact the effort Tabligh is not on the scale in terms of virtue as jihad.

No, doubt the jihad of the tongue is the original Sunnah of all the Prophets, and is the preferred method, but if push comes to shove, and one has to put their very existence at stake, to protect, and preserve the deen from the enemy that's a totally different degree of virtue.

Mufti Ebrahim Desai's approval of the fatwa wraps it up for me.

Jazak'Allah for this Hazrat.

I'll take a look at these narrations, and forward them to HadithAnswers.com plus a few brothers who're from twelvershia.net to verify the authenticity of these narrations.

1. Brother im not ahl hadeeth and im nit using there tactics, calling someone ahlulhadeeth isnt a daleel
2 you just changed the maqsad if qitaal from dawah to i'laa kalimatillah, please 'kniw the difference ' according to your words.
3. Your post didn't prove the purpose if qitaal is dawah, and you haven't proved that dawah is the 'best' amal
4. What is with the groupy mentality on this site, always have to back your friends up, how about do some justice.
And try have some husne zan akhi, we've never met so dont assume things about me according to your experiences, if everyone lived life like that the world would be a much worse place than it already is.
My issue is with you brothers who tarnish the name of tabligh with your misinterpretations, with all due respect

The sacrifice one makes when he goes out in the path of Allah to self-reform, and to give daw'ah to others is significant, and noteworthy - only a moron would deny that.

I also accept it's the best and favourite mode daw'ah or the mother of all good deeds because potentially you can gain endless virtue this way, however it doesn't mean it's the most virtuous mode of jihad on it's own.

The narration above is testimony to that since the Prophet (SAW) is saying you can be engaged in worship during the BEST of times (Ramadan) in the BEST of places (Masjid Al-Haram), but even that can't topple someone who's made a sacrificial intention to leave their most valuable gifts behind. That would be one's family and, second their wealth.

That's not an easy thing to do.

ibn Hibban (RA) also placed this narration under the chapter of jihad not daw'ah.

Who denied it being significant and noteworthy??? Like i said try to be just, like Allah commands us to be.
Again please go back to the original subject, brothers claim that dawah is the best amal, and also used one tafseer of a verse of quraan regarding jihaad to generalise other verses/hadith.
No need to use words like moron brother especially when you've made assumptions,

Respected guest.

The above thread was addressed to/for you.

The use of the word "moron" was just to make a generic point that only a retard would deny that anyone making the level of sacrifice that our Tabligh brothers do is not a genuine sacrifice.

May Allah reward all those who struggle for the service of deen, Ameen.

It was just to highlight the point I was making, that's all.

I'm really sorry if I offended or hurt anyone's feeling by using such a sensitive word.

Staff, please edit as you deem fit.

Jazak'Allah.

But a few questions come to my mind:
1. Which is the best way of ila' kalimatullah for British Muslims? Jihad or Dawah?
2. Which is the best way of ila' kalimatullah in China? Jihad or Dawah?
3. Which is the best way of ila' kalimatullah in India? Jihad or Dawah?
4. Which is the best way of ila' kalimatullah in America? Jihad or Dawah?
5. Which is the best way of ila' kalimatullah in Afghanistan? Jihad or Dawah?
6. Which is the best way of ila' kalimatullah in Palestine? Jihad or Dawah?
.
.
.
.

Is the answer to all these questions Dawah by Jihad (Qitaal)? or Dawah by speech? or it depends on circumstances?

Brother youve gone off topic. You could maybe start a separate thread for these questions?? But above we have a brother claiming that dawah is the best amal, and also that the purpose of qitaal is dawah. He needs to eithwr back it up or retract his statements.
No one on the thread is looking down on dawah or tabligh or any other effort of deen, the issue arises when people transgress the bounds and i hate to say it but it does occur ALOT in tablighi circles
