Barren Conversation

Tears welled up, heart heavy

Conscious about every word.

The dhikr of Allah Ta’aala repressed on the tongue

Holding back words of praise, words of glory, words of permission

words cold, devoid of acknowledgement.

How uncomfortable and sad,

How utterly frustrating

To know and for them to know yet remain unsaid.

Why must we repress them outwardly, almost whispering, clearly not wanting to speak;

While our hearts yearn for a different kind of conversation, full of blessings, praise and glory

spoken to be heard

heard to be acknowledged

acknowledged with the heart,

Moved to tears of a different kind.
