One of the saddest situations is when parents are not supportive of their children’s choice to become more serious about their religion citing that they are too young or any other excuse. Some go to the extent of threatening their children if they will try to increase in spirituality.

This happens to spouses as well.

Rather than discourage them, we should be very happy when they incline towards the Almighty in a bigger way than ourselves. Perhaps our children and family members could be a means of our entry into Paradise by our mere support of their achievements. If we block them from getting closer to the Almighty, we may suffer severe consequences at some stage unless we repent.

May the Almighty strengthen us to be an asset to our family members by assisting them get closer to the Almighty.

This reminds me of an old incident that took place many years ago.

There was a young boy who decided to go in tablighi jamaat but was not given permission by his father.

The father was against his son going away in jamaat for a long period of time. The father went to the elders and argued with them and tried to keep his son back. The elders asked the father if he had ever made dua for his son to be a pious person, one.who is obedient and prays all his Salah etc, so the father said of course he did. On this reply, the elders said to the father, "if your dua is being fulfilled today, why are you stopping him when all he is doing is what you had prayed for him". This changed the fathers heart and allowed his son.to go out in jamaat.

Personally, I am not with the tablighi jamaat but I will always give credit where it is due. Had it not been for them, Allah knows best where I would be today. I have only spent about 10 days in total (about 15+ years ago) with the tablighi jamaat and it changed my life for the positive, Alhumdulillah.

Talking to a parent, I remembered this post. Sadly its not just not supporting the child when they become inclined towards deen when they are older. It's the same with parents who have a choice between between Islamic and secular schools too. Sending them to Islamic school would only incline them towards deen when they are older but they still want to send them to secular schools. :s.
