Customs...... "The Traditional Monkey"

slave of Allah wrote:

It all started with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, a banana was hung on a string and a set of stairs was placed under it. Before long, a monkey went to the stairs and started to climb towards the banana. As soon as he touched the stairs, all of the other monkeys were sprayed with cold water. After a while, another monkey made an attempt with the same result - all the other monkeys were sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon, anytime another monkey tried to climb the stairs, the other monkeys tried to prevent it.

After a couple of days, the cold water was removed. One monkey was removed from the cage and replaced with a new one. The new monkey saw the banana and wanted to climb the stairs. To his surprise and horror, all of the other monkeys attacked him. After another attempt and attack, he knew that if he tried to climb the stairs, he would be assaulted.

Next, another of the original five monkeys was removed and replaced it with a new one. The newcomer went to the stairs and was attacked. The previous newcomer took part in the punishment with enthusiasm! Likewise, a third original monkey was replaced with a new one, then a fourth, then the fifth.

Every time the newest monkey took to the stairs, he was attacked. Most of the monkeys that were beating him had no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs or why they were participating in the beating of the newest monkey.

After replacing all the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys had ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, no monkey ever again approached the stairs to try for the banana.
Why not?

Because as far as they know, that's the way it's always been done around here.
And that, is how most of our rituals and customs began.

'I was a policeman and would often drink alcohol..."

slave of Allah wrote:

“I was a policeman and would often drink alcohol. I bought a beautiful slave girl with whom I had a daughter. I loved my daughter greatly and doted on her and when she began to crawl on all fours I grew even more fond of her. Whenever I put an alcoholic drink in front of me, she would come to me and pull me away from it, or she would spill it from me. When she was two years old, she died. I became consumed with grief over her loss.

It was the night before Jummah, I stayed home and drank and I did not pray the ‘Isha prayer. Then I had a dream. I dreamt that the Day of Judgement had begun, the Trumpet was blown, the graves gave up their dead, mankind was gathered up and I was among them. I heard something behind me, I turned around and saw a huge snake of indescribable size, blue-black, rushing for me with wide-open jaws. I fled in terror.

I passed by an old man dressed in spotless clothes, smelling beautiful. I greeted him and he greeted me back. I said to him, ‘O old man ! Protect me from this snake, and may Allah protect you!’ The old man wept and said, ‘I am weak and it is stronger than me, I cannot overcome it. Go quickly, perhaps Allah will grant you something that will save you from it. I climbed up on one of the highest points of the day of Resurrection overlooking the layers of Hell. But someone cried out to me, ‘Go back! You are not one of the inmates of Hell.’ These words calmed by fears and I went back.

But the snake pursued me. I went back to the old man and said, ‘O old man! I begged you to protect me from this snake but you didn’t protect me!’ Again, the old man wept, and said, ‘I am weak, but go to that mountain. In it are kept the stores of Muslims. If there is something in store for you, then it will help you.’

I looked and saw a round shaped mountain of silver topped with domes of hollowed pearls and hanging drapes, and every dome had two large gates of red gold encrusted with emeralds and pearls and overhung with drapes of silk.
When I saw the mountain I ran to it, with the snake in hot pursuit. As I approached the mountain one of the angels cried out, ‘Raise up the veils, open the gates and look out! Perhaps this wretched one has something in store with you that will save him from his enemy.’ At this, the veils were lifted, the gates were opened and out of the palaces came children with faces like full moons. The snake was catching up to me and I was near despair!

One of the children cried out, ‘Woe to you! Come and see all of you! His enemy is very near him.’ At this, the children came, one wave after another, and among them was the dear daughter of mine that had died, two years before. When she saw me she wept and said, ‘my father! By Allah! ’ She leapt into a carriage of light and came near me with the speed of an arrow. She put her left hand in my right hand and I held on to her tight. Then she stretched her right hand in front of the snake, and it turned around and fled.

My daughter bade me sit, then she sat on my lap and began to stroke my beard and said, ‘O my father!’ then quoted from the Quran (57:16), saying, ‘Has not the time come for those who believe, that their hearts become humbled at the remembrance of Allah?’ I began to weep and said, ‘O daughter, you children know Quran?’ She replied, ‘My father! We know it better than you.’ I said to her, ‘Tell me about the snake which wanted to destroy me.’ She replied, ‘Those were your evil deeds that you built up and strengthened, and they wanted to take you to the Hellfire.’ I asked, ‘What about the old man I passed by?’ She replied, ‘O my father, those were your righteous deeds, you made them weak until they were no match for your evil deeds .’

I said, ‘O my daughter! What are you all doing in this mountain?’ She said, ‘we are the children of Muslims, we have been given this dwelling place until the Hour rises. We await whatever you send forth to us, and we intercede for you’.

Then I woke startled and saw that morning had come. I flung the alcohol from me and shattered the drinking cups, and I repented to Allah.”

This person who repented so sincerely was Sheikh Maalik Bin Dinaar(Rahmatullah alaiyhe), who later became one of the renowned Divines of his times. It is said that, in his early life, he was not a pious man and when someone asked him how he came to repent of his sins and abandon his evil ways, he related the above story about himself.

The Prophet (Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, “Every son of Aadam, constantly commits errors, but the best of those who constantly commit errors are those who constantly repent.” (Tirmidhi)
Also in a Hadith Qudsi, the Prophet (Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) quoted Allah as saying, “O Son of Aadam, as long as you supplicate Me and fasten good hopes to Me, I will forgive all your sins and I mind not. O Son of Aadam, if your sins were to reach the limits of the sky and then you sought My forgiveness, I would forgive you and not mind. O Son of Aadam, if you come to me (on the Day of Judgement) with sins equal in volume to the earth and then meet Me in the state of not having associated partners with me, I will give you in return forgiveness equal to the volume of the earth.”

Sacrifice Has Value..!
Salaam

I have this story narrated to me by a srilankan brother.

They were on Jamaat together with a brother from London. They had to get to a place by train followed by 1km plus of walking. First, they took the train and upon reaching the destination, they realised that it was raining and it was muddy. They decided to walk to the destination from the train station. The london brother was wearing a old shoes and took out a brandnew pair from his bag and wore it. By the time they reached the destination, the brandnew shoes became very muddy.

The ameer asked the london brother," Why did you wear the new pair rather than the old one when it was so muddy?"

The brother replied," When my father knew I was going for jamaat, he bought a new pair of shoes for me. But the old pair of shoes was bought with my own money".

Moral: We value things that are earned thru sacrifice. Likewise Eeman gained thru sacrifice is more valuable. So, we must sacrifice for deen. Then we will value it
Helping Someone In Distress
Salaam.

Helping Someone In Distress
By Shaykhul Hadeeth Muhammad Zakariyya رحمة الله عليه

Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam has said:
"Allah Ta'ala loves the help given to people in adversity."

The point mentioned in the above Hadeeth is that Allah Ta'ala loves the help given to people in adversity. A Hadeeth says that Allah Ta'ala will show no mercy to those who do not show mercy to other people.

Another Hadeeth reports Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam as saying, "He who helps the women in their distress, or the poor, is like one who is engaged in jihaad."The narrator says he thinks that Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam also added, "Like one who offers nafl salaah the whole night without slackening, and he is like one who is always fasting without break."One Hadeeth says that whoever removes any suffering of a Mu'min (believer) in this life, Allah Ta'ala will save him from the distress of the Day of Judgement; and Allah Ta'ala will grant relief, both in this life and in Aakhirah, to anyone who relieves someone's hardship. Whoever conceals the shortcomings of a Muslim in this life, Allah Ta'ala will save him from the exposure of his shortcomings both in this life and in the Aakhirah.

One Hadeeth says, "When someone fulfils the need of a Muslim brother, his reward will be like that of a person who spent his whole life in the service (worship) of Allah Ta'ala."Another Hadeeth says, "If someone places the need of a Muslim brother before a person in power, he will be helped to cross the 'siraat' (the bridge over Jahannam) when feet will slip on it."

According to a Hadeeth, there are a number of men whom Allah Ta'ala has created for the sole purpose of meeting people's needs and helping them in difficulties; those men shall have no worries on the Day of Judgement and will have nothing to fear. Another Hadeeth says that whoever helps his brother in distress, Allah Ta'ala will keep him steady and firm when even the mountains will not be able to stay firm in their places, i.e. on the Day of Qiyaamah (Doomsday). One Hadeeth says, "If someone helps a Muslim by saying a few words in his favour, or takes a few steps to help him in any manner, Allah Ta'ala bestows on him seventy three blessings, one out of which will suffice him for his well-being in this life and in the Akhirah, while the remaining seventy-two will be reserved for exalting his rank and the status on the Day of Judgement". Besides these, there are several Ahadeeth on this subject quoted by the author of Kanzul Ummaal.

A Hadeeth maintains that the Muslims, by being kind to each other, by their close relationship with each other and being merciful to one another, are like a single human body, of which when one limb suffers, all its other parts become restless and share its suffering. For example if one of the limbs get injured, all the other limbs become uneasy; if one hand gets hurt, all other limbs are restless and the whole body becomes feverish. Likewise, all the Muslims must feel disturbed over the difficulties of any one Muslim.

A Hadeeth says, "Rahman (Allah Ta'ala) shows mercy to those who are merciful to others. Be merciful to those on earth, you will have the mercy of those who are in Heaven," (which includes Allah Ta'ala and the Angels).

One Hadeeth says that the best Muslim home is the one in whch an orphan lives and gets fair treatment, while the worst home is the one in which an orphan lives and gets bad treatment. Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam has said, "Whoever in my Ummah helps someone in his need to make him happy, he makes me happy and my happiness makes Allah Ta'ala happy, and when Allah is happy He grants that person entry in Jannah."

One Hadeeth says, "When someone helps an afflicted person, he becomes entitled to seventy three grades of forgiveness, one of which is enough for his salvation; the remaining seventy two will raise his rank and positions in Aakhirah." A Hadeeth says that the whole creation is Allah's family, and from amongst mankind He likes those most whose behaviour is good towards His family. `The entire creation is Allah Ta'ala's family' is a well-known Hadeeth quoted by several Sahaabah radhiyallahu anhum.

The ulamaa have explained that, just as a man is responsible for the provision of all needs of his family, so does Allah Ta'ala provide for the whole of His creation, which, for that reason, is here called the family of Allah Ta'ala. In this regard the Muslims do not have any special status. Muslims and non-Muslims are all alike, even the animals come in the same category; every species in the creation is here included in the family of Allah Ta'ala. Whoever metes out good treatment to the whole creation will thus become the loved one of Allah Ta'ala.

Something to Ponder.

The least of help we can give, is by offering some words of comfort, to a person in need. We must remember that although we may have family and friends around us who we can share our problems with. Their are many of us, who do not have anyone living close by. And look towards the wider muslim, community for that support.
We should not be reluctant, to offer help, for a day may come when we are need of help and support ourselves.
A True test Of Love And Devotion
Salaam.

A True test Of Love And Devotion

Shibli رحمة الله عليه entered a profound mystical state and was placed in an
asylum as a madman. As soon as they heard this, his shocked disciples
came to visit him.
Shibliرحمة الله عليه asked, "Who are you?"
"We are some of those who love and follow you."
Shibliرحمة الله عليه began throwing stones at his students. They began to
run away, crying, "It's true. Shibli really has gone crazy."

Then Shibliرحمة الله عليه called out to them, "Didn't I hear you say that
you loved me? You could not even bear a stone or two before
running away. What became of that sincere love you claimed
you had for me? Did your love fly away with a couple of stones?
If you had really loved me, you would have patiently endured
the little bit of discomfort I caused you."

Something To Ponder.

We claim to love Allah, but when we are afflicted with the slightest of afflictions,
we turn on our heals. We become despondent, we start to despair, we complain of our misfortune. We stop praying, " Why did this happen to me?"; we ask.

"Anyone can claim to be a lover, the truth of our claims can only be established, when we are stuck between the grindstone of Affliction, How we react in the face of these trials, proves the truth or the falsehood of our claims."

Maulana Masood Azhar (DB).

May Allah instill sincerity in our hearts and guide us to all that is good especially a hypocrite and sinner like me.Ameen.
The Definitions Of Sabr.
Salam,

Read this sometime back..here sharing with you:-

A scholar said: "To have patience means that one’s common sense and religious motives are stronger than one’s whims and desires.”

Patience has many other names according to the situation.

• If it consists of controlling one’s stomach, it is called self –control, the opposite of which is greed.

• If it consists of keeping quiet about that which it is not fit to disclose, it is called discretion, the opposite of which is disclosing secrets, lying, slander, or libel.

• If it consists of being content with what is sufficient for one’s needs, it is called abstemiousness, the opposite of which is covetousness.

• If is consist of controlling of one’s anger, then it is called forbearance the opposite of which is impulsiveness and hasty reaction.

• If it consists of refraining from haste, then it is called gracefulness and steadiness, the opposite of which is to be hotheaded.

• If it consists of refraining from running away, then it is called courage, the opposite of which is cowardice.

• If it consists of refraining from taking revenge, then it is called forgiveness, the opposite of which is revenge.

• If it consists of refraining from being stingy, then it is called generosity, the opposite of which is miserliness.

• If it consists of refraining from being lazy and helpless, then it is called dynamism and initiative.

• If it consist of refraining from blaming and accusing other people, then it is called chivalry (muru’ah literally “manliness”)

It is natural for people to have inclination toward their desires, but common sense and the religious motives should limit the inclination.

The two forces are at wars; sometimes reason and religion win, and sometimes whims and desires prevail. The battlefield is the heart of man.
It Will Pass!
Salaam.

It Will Pass!

Once upon a time, a king decided to have a special jewel-encrusted ring made for his personal wear. On the ring, he wanted to engrave a few words which would always give him comfort in times of distress.

He offered a huge reward to any one of his subjects who would suggest the best words of wisdom to him for this purpose. Many people came forward with their suggestions, but none of them were to the king's liking.

In the mean while, a dervish visited the palace. The king places his query before the holy man.

To this, the dervish replied, "O king! Let me tell you the words that have always given great comfort and solace to me in times of sorrow. Those words are – "This too shall pass!"

The words so touched the heart of the king that he had them engraved on his ring. Whenever any sad or difficult experience came his way, he would just look at the ring and read those words. Immediately, his heart would be filled with a new spirit of courage and faith.

Something To Ponder.

No matter what difficulties we are facing, we must never give up hope! Sure we may be in a situation were we feel hopeless and all alone. We may find others are indifferent to our plight.

But ultimately difficult times are like the cold and desolation of winter, and will surely be replaced by the rejuvenation and hope of spring.

May Allah give us the Tawfiq to remain patient and grateful in all circumstances, especially a hypocrite and sinner like me ameen.
Be Prepared
Salaam.

Be Prepared

by Abu Abdullah Ibne Ismail
(from the discourses of Shaykh Saleem Dhorat).

“One should not think that he will never be afflicted by any type of difficulty. Because of not being mentally prepared, when an affliction does come upon us, rather then exercising patience we go into a state of shock and sorrow. We then sometimes begin to entertain negative thoughts about the decisions of Allah ta’ala.

Thus one should always stay mentally prepared for all types of difficulty. It is only when one is prepared to accept difficulty that he can exercise patience and earn the rewards promised for the people of patience.”

Why Oh Why Me...!

(From the discourses of shaykh Saleem Dhorat.)

“Because we do not have the true recognition of Allah we start complaining as soon as we encounter a small problem. We say to ourselves that I pray all my salaah, so why has Allah given me this difficulty?

Yet, those who have the true recognition of Allah, blame no one but themselves, whenever any difficulty reaches them. Despite their great obedience and abstinence (they never say why me?)”

The Bounty of Allah.
Salaam.

The Bounty of Allah.

Health is a wonderful ni?mat (bounty of Allah). In Lucknow there was a nawab who suffered from a stomach ailment. His nourishment consisted of only sucking a bit of mince boiled in a cloth-bag. On account of his aliment he could only suck the cloth bag containing the boiled mince. One day while sitting on the bank of the river with some of his friends he saw a woodcutter approaching with a heavy bundle of wood on his head. The woodcutter dumped his load under a tree, washed his hands and face in the river and sat in the shade of the tree eating a piece of dry bread with much relish. After drinking some water he fell in a deep sleep, snoring loudly. Observing this scene the nawab said to his frie nds: ?I am prepared to exchange my wealth along with my sickness for the woodcutter?s poverty and health.? (i.e. if this was possible).

A Bitter Taste!
Salaam.

A Bitter Taste!

Maulana Imran, was disappointed by the lack off worshipers, attending congregational prayers.

So he decided to take the message of deen to the people, he started frequenting Ashkabad bazaar, going from shop to shop. And preaching to the the local shopkeepers and their customers alike. " Oh ignorant ones, have you no fear of Allah, when will you give up your heedlessness, do you know the punishment of hell for those who refuse too submit to their lord. Indeed you people are foolish, and your stupidity has exceeded bounds." Even with all his efforts, his words had no impact on the locals.

One day as Maulana Imran, was going about his usual routine, in the Bazaar preaching to the locals. His elderly Mother Hafsah al Ashkabadi, who was affectionately known by the locals as 'Aunt' Hafsah. Was in the bazaar purchasing
vegetables, whilst she was shopping she, observed Imran doing his preaching.

Later that evening when Imran returned home for his meal, she placed Imran's favourite sweet dish of Halwa, and sat down next to him. " Eat up my son, you must be hungry," She said.

As Imran placed some Halwa in his mouth, he nearly choked, " Mother what is the meaning of this the Halwa that should be sweet, tastes full of bitterness", He exclaimed, coughing and spluttering.

'Aunt' Hafsah, smiled and said; " My son do you find it strange, that your mother has cooked a dish of Halwa, that should taste sweet, and instead is full of bitterness?"; she further elaborated; " I find it even more strange, that you visit the bazaar every morning and instead of preaching to the locals about the sweetness of Islam, your speech is full of bitterness. Instead of inviting people to the deen you are repulsing them, by labelling them as " ignorant" " foolish" and "stupid".

" you are driving people away from the deen by speaking to them with contempt. And yet you foolishly believe you are serving the deen."

" Mother " Responded, Imran, " I only state the truth"

'Aunt' Hafsah, Replied; "No my son, the truth is that you are not conveying, the beauty of Islam too others, you speak to others in a Judgemental manner, Instead of narrating the beauty of my Prophet's (Sallalahu Alayhi Wa Salam ) character, you spend your days condemning people when you should be educating them. That is why despite your striving and toiling you words have had no effect, on the people."

Written by Julaybib.

Something To Think About.

How often do we end up driving others away from the deen, due to our judgmental attitude, we look down on other we consider astray and speak to them with a bitter tone. Yet through our ignorance we actually believe we are serving the deen.

May Allah guide us towards all that is good especially a hypocrite and sinner, like me Ameen.

Love?
Salaam.

The following story i originally posted in the youth forum I decided, to re-post it on this thread for the benefit of those who may not have read it.

Love?

An Imam was teaching a weekend class to teenage boys. He noticed one of his students a Sixteen year old called Naseem looked distracted, he had been like that for several weeks now, In almost every class he would sit day dreaming. So the Imam asked him to stay behind after class. As the class finished and the other students left.

The Imam asked " O Naseem I see that your mind has been distracted for several weeks now. Is there anything troubling you?." Naseem shook his head. " There Must be something wrong, Is everything okay at home?" The Imam asked: "Yes everything is fine sir" replied Naseem. "How about school? you are not being bullied are you ? if so I can come and speak to your teachers." Naseem again shook his head." Okay you may leave." said the Imam.

That evening the Imam reflected on his conversation with the young man and finally it occurred: " Aha" he said: " The Boy has a Crush on some girl".

So the following week the boys were employed in helping clear some land adjacent to the mosque which had been purchased by the worshipers to be used as a car park. All the bushes and brambles were cut down and were set alight . As the boys stood and watched the fire The Imam called over Naseem he said: "O Naseem I know what has been distracting you, You have a crush on some girl". Naseem blushed and did not say anything. " Naseem concentrate on your studies and do not get involved in such things, for it is Haram to engage in such behaviour."

"But I love her". replied Naseem The Imam said "you really love her".
" Yes" replied Naseem . would you be willing to jump into that fire for her if she asked you?" " No" replied Naseem in astonishment; " So you don't really love her?" Said the Imam " Yes I do" replied Naseem; " Then prove it let me see you place just one finger in the heat of that fire" "No" shouted Naseem clearly frightened by the Imams behaviour. " O Naseem if you are unwilling to place just one finger into this fire of the duniya then how will you cope with the fire of hell? which is far, far worse if she is not worth jumping into this fire, then how can she be worth jumping into the fire of hell ?"

If you go down this path it will harm both your Duniyah and Akhira, you will suffer anguish and heartbreak. Naseem it is better to get married, would you like to have a wife who is chaste and modest?", "Yes", replied Naseem: "Then guard your chastity for the sake of Allah and Allah will bless you with a wife who is chaste and pious he will bless you with children who are god fearing and obedient." A few months later Naseem stopped attending classes.

One day about ten years later as the Imam was leaving the Masjid, a handsome young man adorned with a beard and white turban. greeted the Imam and Embraced him. The Imam was puzzled he did not recognize this young man what could be his reason for showing such familiarity and affection he thought to himself.

" Sir do you recognize me". asked the Young man; " I do not recognize you my son perhaps you have mistaken me for someone else." " sir you advised me many years ago that before falling into the sin of Zina, I should reflect whether the woman was worth jumping into the fire for, you also told me that if I wished to have a wife who is chaste and pious I should ensure that I guard my own chastity."

" Oh yes you must be young Naseem what a wonderful surprise", exclaimed the Imam

"Yes I am Naseem , Imam sahib I just happened to be in town on business I thought I would stop by and thank you for the wonderful advice that you gave me as a teenager. Due to it I was prevented from falling into sin, many times I was tempted and by the grace of Allah your words would resonate in my mind,
"Is she worth it ? would you be willing to jump into the fire for her?" and " If you wish to have a wife who is chaste then Guard your chastity." Today I am reaping the benefits from the fruits of patience. I have the most wonderful wife and children and there are many other blessings that Allah has bestowed on me.Whilst many of my friends who fell into the sin of zina are today suffering the consequences of what they did."

"All Praise is for Allah who allowed my words to penetrate your heart" said the Imam joyfully.

Dedicated to Imam Siraj Wahaj who has a way of explaining Islam to the youth that very few can match may Allah protect him and preserve him ameen.

when Shaytaan is Whispering in your heart then reflect on these words:

" Is she worth a place in the fire?" and " Do you wish to have a chaste wife? If so then guard your Chastity."

Salaam,

This is one the best stories i have come accross for the youth....subhanallah its a wonderful read with an excellent moral and very inspirational. Seeing as it was written by you brother Julaybib, i think i should ask your permission, if i can email to friends, can i email it to friends?

Also brother, is it a true story?

Wasalaam

Salaam.

You are free to use the story ', as longs as of course Julaybib is mentioned as the author.

The story titled 'Love' '..... is fake and bears no resemblance to anyone, The inspiration for the story are two things one a story i heard Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq mention, in one of his lectures and I believe Shaykh Kamaluddin also Mentions in his audio of Shaytaans Temptation.

It is about a Young woman, who got caught up in the Riots and sought refuge, in The Masjid. In the mosque she saw a Young man reciting the Quran, she sought his permission to stay at the mosque, which she was given.

And during the night she noticed the youngman who was reciting the Quran in candle light. periodically put his finger into the flame of the candle. This happened through out the night.

When daylight approached,...... as she was about to leave the Masjid on her journey home. She asked the youngman the reason for his strange behaviour during the night.

He said; " Shaytaan would tempt me towards you and everytime the thought of evil occured in my mind, I would put my finger into the burning flame of the candle and say to myself, " Oh young man, if you cannot handle the pain from the flicker of a burning candle. Then how will you be able to endure the fires of hell, whose heat have no comparison. refrain yourself from committing any evil act to this woman."

The reason I dedicated it to Imam Siraj Wahaj is, that the very first lecture I ever heard in English, was an Audio of his on Zinah he made a quote . " If you want a Pious and chaste partner, then guard your chastity."

So basically this is how I get my inspiration, sometimes a quote I heard , sometimes a personal experience , disguised as a story etc.
