السّلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Just an idea I wanted to put forward...so many books to read we are too spoiled for choice.

So...

The thing is though everyone wants to read but there's little motivation so why not have a book club but with a slight twist.

How?

A minimum of 2 members will agree on one book to read from start to finish, or it could be part of a book, the member who finishes first will decide on the next book, it's obviously necessary that both the members have the book either paperback or in eBook form, they can be posting updates either through their twitter account or right here, all their available (reading, browsing etc) time apart from reading Quran Kareem would be to read the book.

The idea is to not just finish books but to FOCUS on one book at a time.

The books could be on Deen or dunya...

Supporting / motivating each other to finish it.

Completely cutting down on wasting time on YouTube etc...

Posting this from phone so can't get into details..

So...who's on?

وعليكم السلام و رحمة الله و بركاته

Good ماشآءالله let's wait for a few more hours or a day and we will start eating.. books! Not literally though lol!

"Some books should be tasted, some devoured, but only a few should be chewed and digested thoroughly" ~ Francis Bacon

As we improvise I have thought of adding the name of the member in the title of the thread who either has completed the book on time or read the most # of books through this method..and his or her name will stay until others catch up. Let's see how it goes..

I'd love to join in, but I'm "currently" writing my own piece and already committed to reading other random stuff :)

It would be nice to meet online (google hangout?) once a week to also summarize what we have read. That would be really nice. This would force me to read with lots of concentration instead of just reading and not absorbing. Or we could start a readers blog where we read a book and summarize its chapters.

EDIT:
Didn't realize we would be reading the same book. I think that is even better. But meeting online every week to discuss it would be nice.

Good ماشآءالله I see that some members have shown interests...

Bro resolve your suggestion...let's see one of the purpose of such reading is to wean away people from 'online time' ...

Not sure if weekly gangouts (Google hangouts) would be good.. Are you talking video calling? If yes I don't think its a good option because I'm too handsome and I don't want people to be looking at my husn and sending me proposals for you know what..and wooing me and doing all that sweet poison stuff..

Audio or just messaging could be accommodated but we could do that once we finish the book but all that is for later..

First lets get the gaadi started..

Its been almost a day since I posted so let's get started shall we?

Recommend a book up to 3..

I suggest 'discipling the soul' by imam ibn al jawzi rahimahullah it can be downloaded from kalamullah.com it comes recommended and is not a very lengthy book just about 120 pages.

As this is the start I'll decide for now:
Let's go with

www.kalamullah.com/disciplining-the-soul.html

Disciplining the soul

And lets take turns in deciding what to read it aint necessary that whoever finishes first decides.

If you are Ok let's start. Download the books on phone laptop PC tablets iPads whatever... better use ms onedrive and it syncs across all devices.
