For starters...
The practical concrete steps will come later but first the mind-set needs to change! Some random thoughts (facts):
For a large number of Muslims the shenanigans within the British society Trojan horse, UKIP, BNP, Terrorism, (Education) reform etc. are relevant and impact their lives. At the very least in areas where there is a significant Muslim population grass root political participation is necessary e.g. I don’t necessarily agree with the views of Mufti Shah Sadruddin (*) but I agree with his participation and the principle behind it.
The behind the scene (encouragement) of politicians like Jack Straw by high level Deobandi Ulama & Mashaykh and then public (apathy to politics) is a disastrous strategy. Similarly behind the scene backing of Channel Islam (and funding it) while public aversion to TV is also not working.
Then we need to pick our allies for our strategy within this country. We can’t make Taqleed and Tassawuff our overarching criteria and let everything (including whom we support and withouhold support from) be governed by that principle.
Let there be a Shura and deliberate the issues of Muslims in this country. At the moment; (Deobandi) Muslims live an isolationist lifestyle which I don’t believe to be conducive to or helpful in the long term to the Muslims of this country.
Shaykh (Dr) Haith Haddaad (HA), is he perfect and successful? No but certainly trying to do his best in difficult circumstances.
With 750+ Mosques and 8+ fulltime Darul-ulooms what is the impact of Deobandees in providing guidance to British Muslims?
