Masha'Allah! Jazak'Allah khayran for all the great replies. First I was scared that my confusion might sound stupid, but now I am happy that I asked. It seems like TJ has demystified many (intricate) concepts of Tasawwuf and simplified them for the masses, because the understanding of Wuquf-e-Qalbi I get from Hadhrat Dr76's explanation reminds me strongly of the objective of 'Ilm & Zikr. Namely to be aware of Allah's commandments of each and every situation and to fullfil them with Allah consciousness. Maybe mixed with some good ol' Ikhlas-e-Niyyah.

You guys are all wonderful,I am surprised how much you know and how easily you people can communicate these difficult concepts to others,جذاك الله خيرا

Reading through your posts,it occurred to me that we are all 'aware' of our own bodies all the time...and it does not interfere in any of our activities. If we are not aware of our body then we are either in 'coma' or 'deep sleep'..but generally I found that we are certainly 'conscious' of our own self in a particular way which is neither 'active attention' causing distraction in other activities nor complete negligence causing 'loss of consciousness'.

It means such a state is perfectly achievable through practice and may even become our second nature !

السلام عليكم

Subhan Allah..! exactly.. and this 'awareness 'of body is felt when there is pain somewhere.. while we are not aware of our feet all the time.. we just carry it along without thinking much about it.. but just a pin prick and we feel pain..

Our hands we may be there always.. but do we think about it all time.. No.. a slight burn and we know what happened..

Similar is the case with all the organs..

This is the exact effect Wuqoof e Qalbi has on our inner self..

It becomes our 'second nature'.. where just a simple disobedience to Allah and His Rasool (saw) is 'felt' like never before..

The eyes feel heavy to cast unlawful gazes.. the ears turn away from Haram sounds.. the hands away from injustice.. the legs do not walk towards disobedience to the Most Merciful lord.. just as following His commandments and the Sunnah of Nabi (saw) becomes a 'second nature'..

(As explained to me by a shaikh of Tasawwuf and dearest elder)

duas..

wa Assalam..

So Hazrat does Zikr done in the heart whilst you go about your daily business have a different effect to Zikr that is done by the tongue.

For example if two people recite Astaghfirullah, constantly through out the day but one does recites with the tongue, whilst the other does it in the Heart will the effects and benefits experienced by both be different?

السلام عليكم

Apologies.. Just saw it now..

Generally the effect of Masnoon Adhkar is same.. but differs on the level of ur connection with Allah سبحانه وتعالى.. like the istighfar u have mentioned.. Mashaikh have spoken about three levels of tauba..

1. The tauba or istighfar of common folks.. that is upon sinning..

2. The tauba of khawas.. ie, when thoughts of sins enter the mind.. they become restless and do istighfar..

3. Tauba of Akhas ul khawas.. the very close ones of Allah سبحانه وتعالى who do tauba moment they find themselves in ghalfat.. (being inattentive towards Allah سبحانه وتعالى ) .. which is the objective of wuqoof e Qalbi..

If I understand the concepts of dr76 correctly, then probably I would be right to say that astaghar is essentially being feeling sorry for doing something wrong. The wording of astaghfar are only ‘representatives’ of our inner feeling of guilt. The first part of it,feeling sorry,is helped by Wuqoof e qalbi,as it creates awareness of the ‘presence’ of Allah swt (and that Allah SWT knows what we do,and even think, and that one day we will be made accountable for our deeds). In my humble opinion where words are involved ‘the tongue’ is better than the heart, hence astaghfar by tongue is to be preferred. Having said that,it is the Qalb that is the organ of comprehension of the ‘presence’ of Allah swt, therefore unless we work on purification of Qalb we may not even know we have done something wrong...

The purpose of Wuqoof e qalbi, and all other such methods,is to create awareness of Allah SWT. Once that is done, all our deeds become connected to it,and that is indeed a blessing. The difference between a wali and an ordinary Muslim is that ‘awareness’ which makes the QAUALITY of ibadaat better many fold than ordinary people like us. For example, the fardh of morning prayers remain two rakaat for all of us,but the quality of it is different in those who feel Allah swt to be watching them and those who can not keep their focus.
