Assalaamu 'alaykum

I'm looking for something to inshaAllah help a young girl who is in her last year at school. Since last year she goes through dibilating stress at exam time with severe headaches, nausea, crying bouts etc. - be it school exam or our madrasah exam. Can anyone help with links, info, advise?

"Since" last year is very important; whats changed that issue needs to be addressed...

Otherwise Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the answer which is now freely available on NHS (after referred to by GP).

If she comes from a practising Deobandi family they will probably ignore this simple advice and start to look into Ruqyas or Jinn busting etc or ask her to become Bay't to a Shaykh etc etc etc

Jazakallah...have found some articles but nothing which one or other of us hasn't already mentioned. Doctor's appointment has been arranged so inshaAllah help should be forthcoming (though often these type of issues are swept away by doctors)...and i will mention the need for looking into "whats changed"

Sad because she was one of my promising students and she already failed one exam and did not turn up for the second one yesterday

Maybe the MS doctor sahibs can help

Is this the cause, both going parallel. Over stressed! We had similar issues with my nephew.

Caution 1:

The GP (in UK) will refer the issue to Mental Health Clinic where the Nurse will give her a one page (Indian Call Centre style) diagnosis and the issue may not get anywhere UNLESS they are highly competent (which is unlikely).

Parents needs to insist on referring to a CBT therapist (practitioner) from theri GP all the way to the Mental Health Clinic. Remember! that the GP isn't trained (much) to do anything about this....

Unless the girl and family have access to exceptional GP surgery (postcode lottery)

Caution 2:

In UK we now have a lot of Sufees practising (phony CBT) as “Life Coaches” particularly many who belong to Tareeqa Muhammadiya and other (covert-Barelwees) often have very good relations with Deobandi Mashaykh (who haven’t investigated this yet).

Many of our (Deobandi) Sisters with marital problems, stress, nerves etc. are regularly attending these “Life Seminars” with these Sufees who often have a quote of Shaykh (Hazrat) Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (RA) here or there during their presentations.

Many jobless, stressed out and brothers with marital problems are also attending these “Life Seminars”

Therapy and counciling is free on the NHS and no need to fall for covert-Barelwees

Even a search on youtube will give you plenty of NHS approved videos and techniques.

Totally agree you can't beat CBT, there's a new organization with qualified muslim therapist, that deal with your issues referring back to deen.

But for medical issues such as high anxiety and stress levels.....nothing can replace the CBT's. No comparison between the two.

Almost forgot...

In my humble and unqualified opinion the most qualified Shaykh in UK on Tassawuff vs Tai’chi (style energy systems) or Tassawuff vs NLP is Shaykh (Maulana) Syed Bahauddin Naqshbandi-Mujaddidi (HA); please keep this in mind.

Many of these quack covert-Barelwees offer techniques from NLP to their "Mureeds" in their Seminars. Google and you can find Sisters offering £40/session!

NLP is QUACKERY not science.
