He [referring to Imam Ahmad Sirhindi رحمه الله] is from the progeny of Sayyiduna 'Umar al-Faruq رضي الله عنه and is connected to him through 28 links. Mujaddid Alf Thani رحمه الله - as he is commonly known - was proud of his link to Sayyiduna 'Umar رضي الله عنه. Consequently, whilst responding to Mulla Hasan Kashmiri's query about a certain scholar who said that Allah ta'ala should not be referred to as 'Aalim al-Ghayb', he wrote the following:

'You have stated that Shaykh Abdul Kabeer Yemeni says that Allah ta'ala does not have knowledge of the unseen. Dear brother, remember very well that this Faqeer does not have the capacity to tolerate such remarks. The Farooqi fervour ignites within me and I cannot find a favourable interpretation to such a remark.

Irrespective of whether Shaykh Kabeer Yemeni or Shaykh Shaami make such remarks, we are only concerned with the remarks made by Muhammad ﷺ. The statement of Muhiyud Deen al-Arabi, Sadr ad-Deen Qawnwi and Abdur Razaaq Kaashi are not important to us. We prefer Nass [i.e. Qur'an & Hadith] over Fass [i.e. Fusus al-Hikam], Futuhaat al-Madaniyyah [i.e. Ahadith] has made us independent of Futuhaat Makkiyyah [of Ibn Arabi].'
- Letter 100, Volume 1, Part 2

Similarly, when Mujaddid Alf Thani رحمه الله came to know that the Khateeb of Samanah - which is a district of Ludhiyanah - deliberately omitted the names of the Khulafa ar-Rashideen in the Jumu'ah sermon, he wrote the following:

'I am compelled to write these few words as this news perturbs me immensely and it has stirred my Farooqi temparement.' - Letter 15, Volume 2, Part 6

[by Imam Ahlu's-Sunnah Hadhrat Mawlana Abdush Shakur al-Lakhnawi رحمه الله
translated by Ml. Abdur Rahman ibn Hafiz Hussein Kolia, South Africa]

Masha Allah.. great thread.. would be nice to have more such on descendants of other sahabah and the manifestation of their temperament..

It seems Hazrat Umar Bin Abdul Aziz رحمة الله عليه did not leave any worldly possessions for his offsprings (he had none) even though his reign spanned over three continents.. saying at deathbed with words to remember forever that if i wished , i would have gathered riches for u taking from Muslims.. but that would have lead me to hell taking u along.. so i chose the other way of sabr that u may eat Halal and enjoy paradise..

Ibn Katheer رحمة الله عليه mentions that on the day he died.. a letter descended from the sky written in golden ink that 'we have pardoned Umar Bin Abdul Aziz'. He was buried with the same letter.

It was known that after many years Allah سبحانه وتعالى blessed the children of Hazrat Umar Bin Abdul Aziz رحمة الله عليه so much that in a single Majlis they would give away hundreds of horses in the path of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, while it is also noted that when Nadir Shah looted Delhi , the Mughal children were seen begging on the steps of Jama Masjid..

Verily.. Honour and grace lies in the hands of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and he gives to whomsoever he wills..

duas..

wa Assalam..

It must be from a biography on Imam Rabbani رحمه الله. Mawlana Abdur Rahman Kolia added it as a brief biography at the beginning of Mawlana's English translation of selected passages of Maktubat Imam Rabbani, "The Letters of Mujaddid Alf Thani" (published in 2011 by their Maktabah in Roshnee).

Right now I'm really into reading works by and about Imam Rabbani Mujaddid Alf Thani Shaykh Ahmad Sirhindi رحمه الله. Maybe it's just a phase I'm going through right now, but one of the great features this man of Allah was blessed with was a very pure understanding of our Deen and abstinence from any kind of distortions. I wish to share this passage from his Maktubat for you to insha'Allah appreciate. Again Imam Rabbani derived great inspiration from the second rightly-guided Caliph for this approach.

It is essential to give priority to Fara'idh acts over optional devotions

Actions that draw one closer to Allah ta'ala could either be categorised as Fardh or Nafl and it must be known that the status of an Nafl act is of little significance in comparison to a Fardh. Executing one Fardh action is superior to performing a thousand years of Nafl devotions, even if such Nafl devotion is carried out with utmost sincerity and irrespective of the genre that it belongs to such as, Salah, fasting, Zikr or reflection and meditation. In fact, we believe that carrying out one Sunnah or Mustahabb action in the course of executing a Fardh holds the same superiority over optional deeds of the above description.

Sayyiduna 'Umar رضي الله عنه led the Fajr prayer one morning and when he terminated the prayer, he realised that one companion was missing. Upon enquiry, he was told that this Sahabi had a habit of staying awake for major portion of the night; perhaps he had fallen off to sleep at the hour of Fardh prayers. Sayyiduna 'Umar رضي الله عنه remarked, 'It would have been better if he slept the entire night and attended the congregational prayer.'

Therefore, guarding the Mustahab matters of a Fardh action and avoiding Makruh aspects - even it be classified as Tanzihi - is far better than engaging in Zikr, meditation, reflection and tawajjuh [because these are Nafl deeds]. What can be said about perpetrating an act which is considered Makruh Tahrimi in relation to a Fardh devotion?

Yes, if one is able to carry out optional deeds whilst maintaining the Mustahab matters of a Fardh obligation and refraining from the Makruh aspects, then he has attained ultimate success. If not, he has toiled in vain.

Just as discharging one penny of Zakah is superior to spending a mountain of gold in Nafl charity, so too is the superiority of observing one of the etiquette of spending - such as giving it to one's relatives - superior to the optional charity described above.

Therefore delaying the perfomance of Esha salah until after midnight in order to secure the opportunity of performing Tahajjud is very erroneous. This is especially so, since the Hanafi jurists consider it Makruh to perform Esha salah after midnight passes, and this Makruh is usually regarded as Makruh Tahrimi. According to the Shafi'i jurists, it is impermissible to perform Esha salah after midnight passes.

Therefore securing one's Tahajjud in this manner is grossly erroneous. Instead, it is permissible to delay one's witr salah for this purpose and this is considered Mustahab. In this way, the witr will be performed correctly and one will gain the opportunity of performing Tahajjud.

Therefore just as you have a practice of reading out from books on Tasawwuf in your gatherings, you should also read books on Fiqh. Many reliable books on Fiqh are available in Persian such as Majumu'ah, Khaani, Umdat al-Islam etc. In fact, if you do not read books on Tasawwuf to the audience, there will be no harm at all, since Tasawwuf has to do with inner states and these cannot be truly comprehended by oral elaboration. However, failing to read books on Fiqh [and educating people about the injunctions of the Shari'ah] would be detrimental. What more can be said other than this? - Maktub 29

'I have poured the some of the sorrow of my heart
I apprehend that you would be disturbed, but I have more to complain about.'

[translated by Mawlan Abdur-Rahman Kolia]

The maktubat many parts of it is well beyond the scope of understanding for both laymen and ulema. I just read it for barakah and nothing more or less. There are many maktoobs which I doubt even a high caliber sufi and intellectual like dr76 can digest. Dr76 am I right?

Alhamdulillah, the passages and sections translated in the cited book above are of the simpler nature. So far, they did not deal with any complex issues. If anything unclear comes along in Tasawwuf discussions I just skip them...
